military basecamp situatedfeet above the sea level, in IndoChina border at Tawang, a beautiful scenic place, heaven for human eyes.
Six army children, all set to make their last days in Tawang a beautiful memory but fate has other surprises for them.
Invictus is a recollection of a true account of beauty of jungles and lurking dangers that come with it, set against the inhospitable terrain of Arunachal Pradesh.

"Isn't it absolutely beautiful that some memories exist only for you and are gone when your time is up I believe an expiration date ain't a bad thing.
It makes the memory ephemeral and also magical, Then poof!"

When I finished reading this book I was awestruck and throughout the book there was a mental commentary going on about how amazing this book is.
The book started off with very beautiful atmospheric description of the area and small flashbacks with jovial mood and lighthearted writing, as I proceed through the daunting realization hit me how dangerously beautiful the account is.
As I read every chapter with rapt attention, glued to every line my heart was racing faster and eager to know what happened next.
A powerful story of grit, resilience and most important, survival,

I must say the wonderful writing with exquisite cliffhangers made this book a page turner for me.
Finished this book in one sitting, that is how much I was glued to the book, The feeling is indescribable. Never read any nonfiction book so breathtakingly amazing like this, Nidhie Sharmas book Invictus is more like a memoir of an unexpected yet dangerous adventure she had during her summer vacation in Tawang.
Six children between the age of six and thirteen decide to go their own way to their picnic destination after their vehicle breaks down and without any caretaker or chaperone, they head into mountains and jungles.
And the least these children know is the unexpected turn of events awaiting them,
.
Nidhie Sharmas use of language is poetic and I loved reading the way she poetically described the mountains, rivers, and jungle.
She literally put life in every element she described in this book, Presenting Jungle as a living and conscious entity was the highlight of it and the author's narration surely gives away chemistry between her and the jungle that wants to test her conviction.

The narration was good but somewhere it felt like it was more children or teenfriendly And that's completely understandable because while writing this book the author surely won't be in the present but in those army boots she was wearing that day.
So I guess it's more like a subconscious influence,

Nidhie Sharma has done beautiful, humorous, and poetic work with this book, There's something that will stay with me for a very long time and that is how beautifully the author has described her days in Tawang and its lively and dreamy environment.
Throughout the book I was with them through the river, ascending and descending mountains, and navigating the way through thick jungle to the Red bridge.

There's something wonderful about this book, it will make you part of it and will take you to experience the terror and horrors of the author's adventuregonewrong incident.
Some moments will make you smile and some will make you feel helpless for the characters, But with the end of the book, you will carry some good memories of Tawang even if you may have never been there.
Fear!

Helplessness!

"Invictus: The Jungle that Made Me" by writerdirector Nidhie Sharma is the true account ofchildren who left their homes to have a picnic at one of the most beautiful places in Arunachal Pradesh.
A day that was supposed to be their most memorable day in the Tawang valley turns into one of the most terrifying days of their life when they get lost in the dense jungle which is as much alive as them.
The author is one of thosechildren and the eldest, Without food, gears, and necessary knowledge to survive the threats of a jungle, this is the story of fear, hope, courage, and the nevergiveup attitude of the children who survived a day in the jungle on their own.

Choices! They are at the core of this memoir, A few wrong choices by the children turned their day upside down, This book is a gripping story of valor which is inspiring and worth learning a few lessons.

Through firstperson narration, the author has sketched the beauty of Tawang valley, the chilled water of the river, the sound of the jungle, and each of thechildren especially the youngest one, Gigi so vividly that readers are sure to get connected with each of them instantly, feel the moment themselves and see the turn of events realtime.
The cherry on the cake is the author's tip on survival in similar situations,

An unputdownable, fastpaced, and engaging memoir of survival! Six kids
One treacherous jungle
A gripping story of resilience.

Based on the reallife experiences of the author, this book is based on the scary times she went through when she was in Tawang, the IndoChina border where her father was posted.
From this alone, you can imagine the severity and wilderness of the atmosphere,

The author has used a very elaborative tone and vocabulary to ensure the reader can vividly imagine the mountains, wilderness, and rivers.
She is the narrator but the jungle was our main character if that makes sense,

This was a very good atmospheric read, Like one of the books that you read and it portrays such an amazing and whimsical world except here the world is very much real.
It's not just all risks and scares though, There's a lot of aspects that will make you laugh and yearn to be in this

world.

This is an exciting but cautionary tale of bravery, wrong decisions, and the alwayslit hope of children.
I loved the cover and the blurb, So overall, I would definitely recommend it! Six children, a lifelong event to be recollected and developing us with a bag full of life lessons.
The writer very beautifully illustrates the nuances of the incident, I felt as if I was a part of that group being guided by the protagonist.
Giving goosebumps at many stages like the one when the protagonist was waded by the river,
Very engaging and a pleasure to read, This novel demonstrates how vulnerable we are in the face of nature, and how its beauty can transform into perilous events.

This is an exciting yet frightening story of bravery, poor decisions, and ones neverending hope.
The blurb and the cover both drew me in, I would strongly suggest it! Invictus means unconquerable in Latin, Invictus chronicles a reallife event from Nidhie's life, How a picnic turned into a disaster when she along with five other children were lost in the stunningly beautiful yet deadly jungle of Tawang, feet above sea level and home to a remote Indian military base, in Arunachal Pradesh near the IndoChina border.
Being from a military background she had the opportunity to visit these places, This is not only the story of survival of six army children ranging from six to thirteen years of age, the author being the oldest among them all, it's the story of what made them as well.

Actionpacked and adventurous and dangerous, this nonfiction is a must read for travel enthusiasts, filled with references of all those adventurous movies and books that we might have ever heard of.
The book also has a set of survival tips in the jungle and mountains, the lessons of life and for life from the jungle and other important guidances.
Nidhie is definitely an amazing storyteller and has crafted a breathtaking book out of her personal life event.

A special mention for the intriguing cover, that certainly lures the reader into the adventure!.
