Snag Your Copy Tales Of Galloway Created By Alan Temperley Issued As Manuscript
is possibly one of my favourite books, My dad bought it when I was younger, specifically for one story, 'The Brownie of Bladnoch', because we live on a farm where the Broonie supposedly worked for a while.
Temperley is a fantastic storyteller, He engages well with the Gallovidian landscape, and has selected a good range of local legends and folk tales, as well as rewriting some better known stories, like Sawney Bean, in a fluid, enchanting style which is accessible for readers of all ages.
Overall a fascinating and wellwritten collection of folk tales from a rural area of Scotland, steeped in history and legends, a book of short stories some very spooky I love stories, I like to read them and then make them mine, telling them to friends and family, That's how stories used to be told, and I think that I might like, someday, to become a professional storyteller,
This is a collection of fiftyone tales, They range from amusing, to heroic, to disturbing,
to grotesque, I love myths and legends and folktales best of all tales except for bible stories, I love bible stories. so this book was like a treasure trove, It mixed folktales and legends with chapters of history and biography, It was a very convenient setup, I am extremely interested in Scottish history, I have some Scottish blood, and so it holds a sort of double fascination,
I wouldn't recommend this book to all, it contains some fairly gruesome tales, and it doesn't gloss over some of the less reputable characters or details.
But taken all in all, I think it would be okay for most people, I thought it was good, I'll give it three,
I am so sad to discover only one review here! Tales of Galloway is without a doubt, my favourite book in the world and means so much to me, as i grew up and still live near Galloway in Scotland.
I even have a large tattoo designed to dedicate my lifelong love for the wonderful characters found within the pages of this magical book, If you love beautiful folklore, this is one for you!
