In the American Revolution people were placed in key positions in order to maintain the government structure while they transitioned from British rule to the American republic.
The French seemed not to do that,

FYI, in science fiction the author, David Weber, created a parallel of the French Revolution IN SPACE! That was the Honor Harrington series.
The series begins with "sitelinkOn Basilisk Station," but the actual "French Revolution" doesn't happen until the end of book, "sitelinkThe Short Victorious War," and continues on for several books thereafter.

As a property owner, life long worker and now voter I could see the very foresight of the documents restricting voting to property owners.
Why should I pay higher taxes to support a school if I have no children, why should I pay for streets for you to go get free food, why should I pay taxes to a government for improving my own purchased property.
As a worker I strive to improve my property so lets say I make a pour small concrete padx, now the city assessor will charge the propertydollars everymonths until I remove the pad or it disintegrates.
Soxyears avg. mortgage in US years that is,at todays rate but you know taxes rise every year, But I poured it myself, manage it myself, Why would anyone improve their property only to be charged to make things better,
Taxes are ONLY for the formation of an Army so we are not slaughtered by other countries but they we also serve in that military.
Now landowners are Taxed for everything even creating jobs to help people feed themselves,
Big Government Democrats who want to tell you what you can pay or be paid, take the money from the hard working to give to the lazy, mandate you feed the lazy, pay for their birth control schooling, jailing etc.
It has gone to far, Trump is attempting to deregulate, stop the taxation and reduction of individual rights and return the country to the original intent.
