I must admit that I had a very different expectation for this book from the synopsis.
A slave twincest book I was bracing myself for tortures, and heavy angst, Their relationship is a lot gentler than expected, In fact most of the angst come from Malik's past,
The lack of introduction to the setting does caused quite an amount of confusing, but once I got a grasp of it everything started to fall into place.
Overall the plot is fairly solid, however it does a get a bit drag on in the the later half of the book not the point of unbearable but I did find myself skimming through some pages.
The ways thebrothers reconnected were almost painless, I felt that they forgave each other too easily after everything that they had done to one another.
I cannot decide how I feel about this novel, First: The world building confused me, never knowing in what era or area the story took place.
Futuristic Dystopian Present Past. I needed to know the who/what/where/why/when to become one with the story, Second: pacing. I'm a stickler for pacing, Too slow and I lose interest, too fast and I'm confused either way, I don't care, I like something in the middle, Drawn out doesn't do it for me unless you engross
me and too fast and I don't connect with the story.
The information reveal wasn't quick enough to keep me wholly invested, Third: character development. I needed more emotion, more internal dialogue something, anything to connect me to the protagonists, I was disconnected the entire time, and not because I couldn't relate, How the hell could the reader relate I mean on a basic, human level, I felt no emotions from the characters, so that created a divide between the story and the reader.
With all that saying, you see that this is astar review from me, Imagine if those issues didn't exist The core premise was tight, if only it had been fleshed out and developed.
Listopia directed me to this book, and after reading the reviews, I just had to have it, only to hit a dead end.
Road Block Author had pulled it from several sites, which obviously intrigued my deviant nature.
Curious and as determined as a cat, it took me a few hours to find it to read.
I would not be deterred,
I find myself atwriting a review instead of reading, I stalled, or perhaps the book stalled, I fear the ending, and not in a good way,
The taboo didn't even hit me washed right over my back, Yes, I am that jaded, amp yes, I need that edge to be interested in a story.
Normal doesn't necessarily do it for me anymore, shrugs In this, the pacing was spot on, Not too fast or too slow, just right, Just enough Holy Hell, is this for real to keep me engrossed,
This book is dark but there is a innocence that is unexpected and kind of creepy, too.
Lends to the whole What the fck am I reading vibe, Not a spoiler: you have wartime, slavery, sexual slavery, The sex slaves acted like teenaged girls MALE sex slaves, I could swallow the incest, but not that, That is what threw a wall up and blocked me off, Not knowing the era, they rode horses and had carriages but it wasn't historical, kind of like a mix between dystopian and I have no flippin' clue what, so why must most books about sex slaves/abductees have some sort of shopping
Giddy slaves Giddy slaves greeting their masters like excitable dogs, hopping into laps and wiggling their tails.
It's a dark book, . . NO GIGGLING! NO! Just no, . . please.
Strange.
Do not mistake this book as a sex book, While sex is involved for obvious reasons, it's not the main focus lt Thank Goodness, Unnecessary sex in a book and I don't get along, So that was a positive in My Brother's Keeper's favor,
All in all, I do recommend My Brother's Keeper to my fellow deviants who take no issue with the taboo: nonconsent, slavery, incest, m/m, menage.
Yeah, wow, that disclaimer makes it sound like a sex book, doesn't it HA! It's not,
Time to read the ending, and then move on to another genre, I'm drained.
Amazing book. A perfect romance, whether it has incest or not, Beautiful writing, characters, world, plot, . . I loved it all the way through and I would have no problem reading a second and third book about those two.
Too bad the book isn't available any more, Slightlytricky helped me get my hands on a copy and I couldn't be more grateful, She's one of the two awesome authors and I salute both their efforts, I am, now and forever more, a fan, How far will one brother go to save the twin he loves
For fifteen years, Ciarans been alone.
Without his brother, his twin, the luxuries of his adopted home are stale and meaningless, When the lies concerning his brothers death are shattered by a chance picture in the paper, Ciaran gives up his new life in a flash, venturing out of his safe cocoon in the hopes of picking up where he and Malik left offyears earlier.
But he soon finds the idyllic land where they once spent whole days happily rolling in the grass is no longer.
For Malik, the years have been cruel, and a cold reception awaits Ciaran in his brothers new, sexually charged world.
Thrown into irons, Ciaran is thrust into the role of playing pleasure slave to a brother who refuses to speak of the past.
He must be patient, playing along and keeping the true nature of their relationship secret, in order to reach beyond the Maliks cold exterior and heal the tortured secrets he hides.
Only then can they rekindle the special bond they shared as children, I actually read this about a year ago, but I skimmed through it last night and realized I had liked it more than most of the things I've read since then.
That being said, there were some weird things that made this three,
First off, Dashi,
Secondly, I could not place where/when this was supposed to be set, Even if it was an alternate universe, it was still confusing in relation to where Malik was and where the city was.
And Ciaran wearing suits, etc,
Thirdly!
And fourth, I started to skim after they reached that resolution, The tension had been drained,.stars.
This book started great, The first half was very good, It had a good plot and the relationship between Ciaran and Malik was great, It kind of reminded me of Captive Prince,
The second half, though, took a completely different turn, It became sloppy and the ending was a bit childish,
The romance was good, though I would have loved to read more of a back story on their relationship when they were kids.
The fact that they were brothers was pretty insignificant, I felt like the author had decided to make them brothers just to add the taboo of incest to the story.
They could have been best friends and the story would have worked out the same, I prefer incest stories to have some angst because of how forbidden and unacceptable their romance is to the people around them, but that wasn't the case in this story.
The Incest just felt unnecessary to the story,
Another problem for me was Ciaran's family,
Despite the fact that the world the story was set in had pleasure slaves and such, the book wasn't overflowing with sex.
In fact, it had less sex than most mm books, I actually liked that because sex was a big part of the plot, especially in the second half of the book, so having a high level of sex written into it would have just been too much.
The sex it did have was very hot,
On the whole, the book was far from perfect, It had a lot of inconsistencies, both in the characters and the story, but I enjoyed reading it.
Both more intense and less intense than I expected, The author didnt do much world building but it was enough to get the gist and then be able to focus on the relationships Kava was a BEAST.
. . LMAO great book! Amazing novel. . I think everyone should read it those who like Master and Slave relationship and brothers love, . .
After a long time i read a very very nice novel,.stars
This book got off to a great start, with one twin becoming a slave to the other after ayear separation.
I saw so much potential for a compelling story since Malik initially seemed to hold quite a grudge against Ciaran for abandoning him all those years ago.
It even felt vaguely reminiscent of Captive Prince, Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations,
I was hoping for something dark, considering the scenario, but Malik didn't hang onto his anger for very long at all.
I thought surely there'd be some noncon in this book, but no, I'm not certain I could even say there's any dubcon, I also wasn't crazy about Ciaran after his slave training he squeaked!,
However, I really liked the connection between the brothers, and I thought the transition to a physical relationship was believable and rather sweet.
Ultimately though, their story could have been much better than it was,
This review is a bit disjointed, but I'm tired and I've been distracted by porn tonight, so it is what it is.
