Real historical characters have been woven beautifully to create a fiction that is so realistic it could almost be true!
Helene is a beautiful character, a complex mix of innocence and cunning.

Frederique, by current standards, comes across as a brute but given the time in which the story takes place, he feels real.

I liked this but had a hard time connecting with the characters which is why I

only gave thisstars.
I'm not sure why I couldn't connect since the writing was great and the story was interesting but something kept me from really feeling for the characters.
This was a very lovely historical erotic romance, It takes place in France at the palace of Versailles, King Louis and Queen Marie are the reigning Monarchs at the time,
The story is about Lord Frederique de la Tour, Vicomte of Decovey, and Hélène d'Ètoilles,

Helene is a hand maid for Queen Marie Antoinette and a favorite of hers, King Louis decides he is going to give her to Frederique's younger brother Henri, Henri is onlyand his father and brother refused to send him to court so Frederique goes instead,

The Kings lastes mistress Fidela de Boucher, is assigned to teach Henri the arts of love making, This is put to rest when Frederique comes to court instead of Henri, King Louis plans to give Henri Helene a virgin as a prize for the families loyalty to the court, King Louis is not very happy when the plans are changed, However he gives ownership of Helene to Frederique,

This book is full of Court entrigue, The politics and treachous people of the court for money, Great love scenes of passion between characters,

Like I said this is a erotic romance and it's very steamy but a great story, It's well worth the read,

There are quite a lot of sex scenes between the main characters, I am not offended by them, just a bit bored, They started to read all the same to me, I just sort of started skimming over those parts, If this is the author's first work, she didn't do too badly, When his younger brother is summoned to Versailles, Vicomte Frederique de la Tour decides to intervene and takes his place, King Louiss XV court is stunned when instead of a lad, the legendary spy, known to his underworld associates only as The Wolf arrives.
