was myst Leslie Meier and yes I'm aware I started at bookin the series, I've been wanting to try her out for awhile and found this book at a library sale and grabbed it! I know it's a cozy mystery but the amount of everyday life and not murder mentioned was more than I'm used to.
I was just . bored of it . . So much was filler. And not in a cute way like Joanne Fluke, I do plan on reading more and giving it a try, Maybe try to find thest one this time, Finding out who the murderer was and the fact that SPOILER
a mother shot her son were both such.
. . hard punches in a sea of, meh that I couldn't appreciate the ending, Maybe these aren't for me, I do love the covers though Mines purple and want to give it another try but half way through this one I was just so bored with the little every day things that happened.
plus it's predictable. Maybe because I had such high hopes it fell below the mark, Like if I could describe this as a roller coaster it would look like those lines below, Mostly calm boring lows like a coed sleep over, asking an old lady about questions for a newspaper, what everyone is eating.
. with random spikes of MURDER!! ELDER ABUSE!!! SHE WAS SHOT!!! The whole book felt like just a chapter, not a story in itself.
Again I know it's a series but individual books should be able to stand on their own, Lovers of her work please don't come after me, I will try again,
I'm really enjoying this quickread series, but I have to say that I'm getting more than annoyed at Lucy's husband, Bill's misogynistic, "a woman's place is in the home" attitude.
Comments like, "There's plenty for you to do around the house instead of working at the newspaper" or at times when he calls her "woman".
He struts around playing King of the Castle often muttering, things like "You need to clear this with me" when Lucy has an independent thought of her own GASP! or he just has a disinterested role in helping to raise his children.
leaving that more to Lucy, as in the case when one of the children gets into trouble and Bill literally growls at her and says, "I blame you for this".
When the author does try to give him some charm, he utters phrases like "well, everything still works.
wink, wink" when referring to an injury he sustained on the job, GAG!
On the whole, however, I will persevere and finish reading the series, I enjoy most of the characters and their quirks the honorary town treasure ofyear old Miss Tilley, the lovable cop Officer Barney Culpepper, Lucy's circle of girlfriends are really what brings me back to keep reading! My ,Stars
Lucy Stone, very busy wife and mother of four, has a parttime job at the towns newspaper.
She agreed to allow her daughter to have a coed birthday sleepover, One of the Tinkers Cove oldest citizens, a former librarian, Miss Tilley, is approaching ninety, She feels pressured when her best friend Sue asks her to help out with a party Sue and her friends are planning for Miss Tilley.
She reluctantly agrees to help, She is quite fond of Miss Tilley, but has a full schedule, They decide to throw a “Miss Tilley Day”,
Meanwhile, Sherman Cobb was found murdered by his partner Bob Goodman, Lucy agrees to look into the case, As an amateur detective, there is nothing surprising about this, It was ruled a suicide but it seems suspicious, Her husband Bill has his typical reaction, "Bill sighed in frustration, 'What do you want to go and do that for Havent we been through this a million times Why do you have to keep sticking your nose into police business, huh'" Why would she involve herself in solving another murder
Although one of her children is just in the second grade, with two of her children being in college, Lucy begins to feel the effects of getting older.
She has become focused on losing weight, Working on that goal, and dealing with the two birthday parties, hardly leaves Lucy time to step in and find the cause of Shermans death.
As she begins checking things out, quite a few
things do not fall into place that dont line up for man that would kill himself.
As always, Lucy leaves no stone unturned,
Birthday Party Murder has some sensitive moments, especially as Miss Tilley experiences flashbacks from her youth.
Between everything going on, this story is another delightful little mystery and is a great addition to this ongoing series.
As the story progresses, other things happen in Lucys life and family, In this story, as well as the series, some readers like myself are getting rather annoyed with Lucys husband Bill being big man on the town.
His view of Lucys role can be rather condescending, If not the mystery in this series, which is done well, the characters will draw you in, I definitely look forward to continuing with this engaging series,
This is theth book in the series, with theth book, Valentine Candy Murder, being released in December, which is an omnibus, as are some of the new releases.
The next book in the series is Fathers Day Murder, which was originally released in.
I encourage readers of this review to look at my other reviews from this series on this blog.
Also, here is a link to her series in order: sitelink fantasticfiction. com/m/le . Good addition to the series, Lucy and her friends giveyo Miss Tilley a birthday party, Another Lucy Stone cozy mystery, this story sees Lucy helping to plan a birthday party for one of the oldest citizens of Tinker's Cove.
As the story progresses, Lucy realizes that an apparent suicide of a leading citizen was actually murder, although no one will believe her.
When a murderous plan also threatens the birthday girl, Lucy and her friend Rachel have to do something to prevent the worst from happening.
When they realize that both situations are related, things get even more deadly,
This is a quick and satisfying read, One of the better ones in this series, Bill is still being a jerk, Another good entry in the series, There were some parts of the plot that were kind of easy to figure out but it was still a fun read.
I am ecstatic that I discovered cozy mysteries, This series in particular has been so fun, I enjoy following Lucy Stones life as well, In this one, the birthday party in question is her daughtersth birthday and its their first attempt at a coed sleep over.
Needless the say, shenanigans ensue and its just so lighthearted and “fun” for a lack of a better word for a murder mystery.
As usual, I cant wait to continue this series and see what other sticky situations Lucy gets herself in.
MINI REVIEW: I love this series! This book fits in with everything perfectly! I think one of my favorite things about this series though is we watch the characters grow and develop something I don't see very much in longer series.
I'm excited to keep reading more, If you're a cozy mystery reader, this is a series you need to read! I have followed this series from bookin order through.
At various points in this series certain reoccurring themes have bothered me, including:
, Lucy Stone's unhealthy marital relationship in which there is little communication or respect
, Lucy Stone's frequent decisions to allow her children's misbehavior to go uncorrected
, and frequent whininess in the dialog of many characters,
In the previous books I've been able to overlook these flaws because the mystery is fun and I like the reoccurring characters and I want to see what happens in her kids' lives between books.
However, in this book these three characteristics were so pervasive that I found myself not even caring about the mystery or the characters any longer.
The murder was committed by exactly the person you thought did it and for exactly the reason you thought he/she did it.
Lucy's usually lax manner of parenting devolves in this book into allowing herself to be bullied into parental decisions that are ludicrous just because she can't say no to her kids.
There's also a theme throughout this book of Lucy paying inordinate attention to her physical flaws and passing this attitude of poor body image on to her girls rather than emulating a healthy attitude about one's appearance.
I've had enough I've decided to stop reading the series here,
To my shock and disbelief, this book is actually the highest rated on Goodreads of this series! I really don't understand why, but it supports my decision that this is not the series for me.
