love Deborah LeBlanc's novel, Great twist of voodoo, hauntings and you get the feeling of true flavor and heat of Louisiana I had really high hopes for this book, It held the promise of some good spooky voodoo thrills, It did start out ok but as the story progressed it became less thrill and more silly, Perhaps if this had been a full length novel there could have been some real spook factor included but other then the sex sceene it was more of a "goosebumps" then a horror.
Scary. On the order of Thinner by King, Odel lives deep in the Louisiana bayous, away from prying eyes, She guards a secretone shared with very few, She is the last surviving descendent of the infamous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, And Odel's power are not to be taken lightly, If you find her in the swamps, she'll grant a wish, but be careful what you wish for, Odel has a habit of giving quite a bit more than you ask for, . . Hands down, my least favorite D, LeBlanc book, but hey, they all can't be winners! This one was just downright silly to me, To boot, I felt it just really jumped around, Not her standard fare. You can always tell the characters who've never read a horror story, Wayne, the protagonist of this horror novelette, is one of them, He makes a bargain with a witch and doesn't hold up his end of the deal, and so things go very badly wrong for poor old Wayne, If he'd ever read a horror story, he'd know this and be more careful, He's a decent enough person, just trying to get by and scrape together enough cash so that his family doesn't lose their little home, but creepy witches don't much care
about consent and nor do they care about character, so sucks to be Wayne.
Just what's going to happen to him is pretty obvious, but because this is only a novelette and quite a fastpaced one at that, the story zips along nicely despite the foreseeable outcome.
