know people say they cant put a book down but I literally couldnt in this case, My initial interest was as a breast cancer survivor but its an incredible story of the hard work struggle involved in becoming a Dr and Consultant with the breast cancer twist.
Im just amazed that anyone qualifies as a Dr but so grateful they do! Thoroughly recommend this powerful book, Got this book on publication date and couldnt put it down, I had treatment for breast canceryears ago op, chemo and rt, That was the part of the book which I was most looking forward to and it didnt disappoint, But the rest of the book was gripping too, Anyone who has started their work life in thes ands will know how sexist the workplace could be.
Liz comes across as a real person with faults who survived everything thrown at her an amazingly wonderful woman Im not a natural reader but I

read this book in one sitting.
Thoughtful, inspiring, uplifting and engaging and thought provoking, Im a doctor and have also been a patient too frequently and this book resonates which similar experiences, Doctors can learn from reading this better empathy and understanding, Patients can be reassured by this knowing theyre not alone in their thoughts and sadness, This is a story following Liz from medical school to consultant breast surgeon through her story of diagnosis, treatment and survival.
Well done. I will share with colleagues, Can't put this down honest and authentic, funny and sad at times, a real peek into the world of Surgery and what it takes to succeed as a woman in a man's world.
I'm totally on Liz's side as she describes her struggles and triumphs, thoroughly recommended! This was a great read, Dr O'Riordan is a gifted writer and she gives an intriguing insight into life as a hospital doctor and as a woman in a predominantly man's world.
Her courage in detailing her own struggle with depression and the trauma of a cancer diagnosis show she is a woman of deep courage.
