loved getting to know the characters and reading their stories, I went through all the emotions, The story and characters are so relatable, You can tell Louise drew from experience and it made it all the exciting, I read this book remarkably quick for someone who's After pre ordering this book, I almost didn't persevere past the first couple of pages.
There are some really clunky sentences while she is trying to set the scene/introduce the characters, and throughout the book there are a few typos etc which I think is just par for the course in publishing these days I'm afraid.
I really like Louise's videos, so I like this story because it seems very very close to her own life! I'm not sure how much of the story is actually made up.
Divorcee Robin LouiseLyla DarcyAuntie Kath Auntie JudithTheo any exPromising British Guy Edward LiamAbsent mother'The Emptiness'all seem to closely echo Louise's real life, However, as I said, I enjoyed the book and got a few good laughs from it, It's a very easy read which is welcome! I probably will end up reading the sequel, but might just get it from the library.
This honest single mum story will make you cry, laugh and give you the strength to struggle with your every day life, Finally nobody is lying about giving birth and parenthood, what a relief! Loved it I
really enjoyed it! The book features Robin Wilde, shes a single mum to her six year old daughter Lyla and a part time makeup artists assistant.
As you know from the description above, Robin has her struggles with being a single parent, not so much the struggles of parenting itself, the feeling of being alone without a partner or adult conversation after Lyla had gone to bed or stayed at her dads, even the school meetings or dinners where Robin was the single one between many couples.
I struggled at times with those moments, I found it difficult to read those sections when Robin was negative and sad but just because I didn't enjoy those parts doesnt mean those feelings are not important to the story, they play a massive part and this book is a very honest and down to earth account of one woman's journey through motherhood and it opened my eyes to how easy people can hide their true feelings.
Robin's feelings of sadness and loneliness made me want to be her own personal cheer leader and jump up and down with pom poms and give her the support to get her through the blue times.
The sad times were a massive contrast to the happy bubbly Robin which appeared often by the end of the book phew! I liked this Robin a lot, she took some risks and was brave to put herself out there and sometimes the risks paid off.
I loved the relationship between the characters, specifically between Robin, Lyla and Auntie Kath, Being close to my own mum I really loved the scenes with Robin and Lyla, they are Team Wilde and Lyla was Robin's number one fan.
I loved Auntie Kath, although slightly eccentric you could totally feel the love she had for Robin and would do anything for her niece.
The story shows that although you could feel the loneliest person in the world there is always someone there to be on your side and root for you, you just have to let them in! Has the potential for a great chick lit book, and several admirable themes, but falls flat and has a very self indulgent undercurrent.
Lacks any clever plot twists which even the most basic chick lits throw in, Have to agree that this has sold on name and not merit, I was really looking forward to reading this but unfortunately I found it fell very flat, I didn't connect with any of the main characters and didn't think the plot was strong in the slightest, Disappointing. I like to leave a couple of weeks between reading a book and writing a review to see if the book stays with me at all.
This book left so little an impression on me that I struggled to remember whether I had actually finished it or not I had to go and get the book to remind myself.
