Explore The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History Scripted By The Red Hot Chili Peppers Presented In Paper Edition
is the book to read if you love the Chilis, It has tonnes of photography in full colour and black and white but also has a heap of anecdotes and biographical information, both on the band and on the individual members.
I got this when it was first released inand thirteen year old me was over the moon, it's still one i like to flick through on occasion.
This book tracks the Red Hot Chili Peppers from the very beginnings of the members' musical awakenings, to the second time John Frusciante left the band.
The whole history is told by the current and former members and managers, and their friends it is basically like a long interview.
The stories are backed up with several pictures on every page, I would have liked if the pictures or at least the major ones had a year and names by them, because they didn't seem to be related to the story a lot of the time.
Also some more of Frusciante's quotes would have been nice, but knowing how he is with interviews, this was good,
Five anyway. Learned stuff I didn't know and couldn't stop reading, I was a bit disappointed by this book, While I learned quite a bit about the chili peppers I feel this could have been so much better, There are many excellent photos throughout the book but none are captioned, You don't have a clue of where they are taken and what they are doing in them, I feel this simple addition could have added so much more, I also would have enjoyed a bit of insight and history into some of Anthony's lyrics what he was thinking at the time, what some meant to him but alas, the lyrics to any songs aren't mentioned at all.
For any fan wanting more insight into the band, I recommend Scar Tissue, Glad I just got this from the library, . . I'm a fan girl. This book actually taught me a couple things I didn't already know, Discusses a small variety of chili peppers, It lists peppers and their uses, Recipes are also included. There are a limited number of photos of peppers,tähteä ihan vaan siks että RHCP, Fun coffee table book. Lots of cool pictures of the band with quotes by all members past and present except Hillell who died before the band made it big.
I kept it by my reading chair and read it while watching TV and sipping on cocktails, Not an altogether bad way to read coffee table books, Pretty darn in depth. I agree that the pictures could have used captions, I would have also liked some more talk about making the actual songs, but the history is still interesting, Awesome book.
Lots of nice pictures and basically the story of how the band was formed, The only thing I didn't like was the writing seemed to be going back and forth in time and I would have liked the pictures to have captions or something to describe them with dates and so on.
But overall a musthave for any Red Hot Chili Peppers fans, For every Red Hot Chili Peppers admirer, this book is a must read, Not only is it full of astounding photography, but stories and quotes by every band member and person associated closely to the band.
The book archives the start to present, the pitfalls, successes, failures and thoughts of all involved, The subject matter touched upon is diverse and Brendan Mullen, along with the remaining Chili Peppers, have done a fine job in creating a massive volume, easily digestible, for everyone to learn of the journey of this astounding group of people.
Easy read for rhcp fans, Not really in depth. Just snippets of interesting
quotes here and there, Still good though with a lot of very interesting pics that sum up the band over the lastyears this is a must read for any chili peppers fan.
Awesome pictures. Great first hand recollections of the history of the band, It's a really nice looking coffee table book, I guess if you're not a big fan, it's probably not that exciting, but these guys have been with me for as long as I can remember listening to music, so they're a pretty big part of my life.
My one and only criticism is that the pictures don't have captions not even dates and they don't always match up with the part of the story being told, so captions would nce been nice for some context.
Otherwise, a great, great book, This book is about almost everything about the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Inside are tons of interviews, stories about their rise to fame, what happened on stage and off, their wild side and pretty much everything with pictures on the many pages.
What this book doesn't have it seems is stuff that is to read, Sure the stories have tons of interviews but the pictures don't sync up to what is being talked about, sometimes the band's timeline isn't covered very well not including the discography near the end and is fun to read about the band but it does feel like the way their rock music is: discordant, sometimes the words don't make much sense, and while it is fun to go through you just wish it was done a little better.
Not to knock on their music but sometimes I get frustrated about their nonsensical lyrics If you like the rhcp, this is a fun insightful read into the cohesion and strength of this band.
I would have loved to have seen even more pictures and was expecting to hear some funny stories from the band about some of their adventures, but it was more or less a history of the band, as the title indicates.
Easy read, definately recommend to anyone who is a fan of the band and their music, The only thing I disliked about this book was the lack of organization, WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS it was a little disjointed, No prose, just snippets of interviews with past and current band members as well as producers and managers, It tried to be chronological I think but didn't flow well, The pictures were fun to see, though, Very good but I still prefer Scar Tissue, : More rockstar living. Crazy they survived. This was really fun to read, I am of an age where I feel like I never got to have a comprehensive introduction the band, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing stories from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Theyre honest about the good and the bad, and I really appreciate the vulnerability, I am only deducting one star because the arrangement of stories made it confusing at times, They didnt go in full chronological order which made it hard to follow sometimes, I really enjoyed seeing all the pictures as well, Ive read this a few times, Ive always enjoy these band bios/memoirs pieced together from interviews/quotes with the band and those around them a la the Beatles Anthology, PJ, Uby U.
To be honest I read this one partly because Im really vibing on the latest Chili Peppers album, but mostly because I was feeling a bit burnt out on the Caetano Veloso book Im reading.
Huge book with like, a million awesome pics, . . great book This is the book fans have been waiting for since Mothers Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik first hit the charts: The first and only! official Red Hot Chili Peppers storyan oral and visual autobiography from one of the worlds greatest rock groups.
Together, Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, Flea, and Chad Smith tell themillionalbum selling bands rollercoaster story, with anecdotes of their concert tours and creative collaborations, memories of surprise successes and dark battles with drug addiction, revelations about their personalities and feelings, and admissions about their lives outside the band.
With hundreds of photographs, poster images, ticket stubs, and other RHCP memorabilia, this is a musthave for any diehard fan, .
