Get Dark Lake Edited By Louise Gaylord Issued As Version
for another Allie Armington Mystery novel This book is no less exciting than the first.
Allie returns to a vacation home in the Adirondacks at the request of her cousin, she is supposed to receive exciting news when she arrives.
The first moment Allie steps through the door she can tell something is off, that feeling only grows as Allie awaits her relatives' arrival to the house.
After awhile, she decides to search on her own, What she finds shocks her, The story takes off from there,
As a character, Allie reminded me a bit of Nancy Drew, She was inquisitive, intelligent, and possessed a quick mind, She is a likable character and the reader will enjoy following her through the novel, The secondary characters are just as interesting, maybe more so because the reader will always be guessing who the bad guys are.
The events were interesting, the reader will like following Allie's logic as she makes decision and uncovers clues.
The ending was perfect. This book is recommended to mystery lovers,
Allie Armington's Back. Trouble's Right Behind Her. This time she's in the Adirondacks, and it's really personal,
A long time ago Allie was summarily ordered away from her extended family's summer enclave.
Her return is nothing like what she expected, Instead of the tranquil retreat she remembers, the place is a murder site, From the very beginning she's confronted with everything from coverups and corrupted cops to covert meth labs and cousins in distress.
Allie really has her hands full,
Visiting Hotanawa was always a dream to remember, This visit turns into a nightmare she'd rather forget,
Populated with neighbors you love to hate, childhood excrushes you'd hate to love, and family and friends who promote more problems than solutions, Dark Lake brings us an up close look at summer life in the Adirondacks and Allie at her best.
Dark Lakegt/igt, by Louise Gaylord, is part of something called the Allie Armington Mystery series.
I've never heard of it, so this was my first introduction to Allie and the series.
You don't need to have read the previous books in order to understand what's going on, which is good news.
This is a slim, quick read, and as mysteries go, it isn't bad, It isn't great, but it isn't bad,
Allie heads back to her extended family's summer cottage in the Adirondacks, only to discover her Aunt Sallie dead.
Who killed her Could it be her cousin, Arlene Arlene's fiance Or what about Liam Witcher, a cop who appears to be helping her And why don't the local police seem interested in pursuing Sallie's death as a murder
There isn't much else to say, because to do so risks giving away some spoilers.
As far as the characters go, Allie is interesting, Smart, very intuitive when it comes to crime solving, yet she makes mistakes and is not perfect.
She and Liam enjoy a few outings of rocking the headboard, which Allie worries might cloud her vision when it comes to Liam's culpability.
You want him to be innocent, but is he
This is a quick, pleasant read.
It won't keep you up long, because it is brief, But it's fun. The best part of this book was the location, The characters were not particularly memorable and I did not feel invested in them, So I didn't much care how the story turned out, I love reading a good mystery where I am left wondering "Who Dun It" right up until the end and with "Dark Lake" that's exactly what I got.
It's been fifteen years since Allie Armington has been back to Holden Cottage the vacation home her family keeps in Hotawana, but when she gets an invitation to come spend Memorial Day weekend with her aunt Sallie and her cousin Arlene she decides to go.
When she arrives she has the gut feeling something is wrong, and soon discovers her aunt's dead body, and her cousin Arlene apparently drugged and tied up, talking about two men in ski masks.
Being a P. I. as well as a lawyer Allie senses that there is foul play where the death of her aunt is concerned, but the tiny town wants to label it a suicide.
Allie decides to take it upon herself to figure out what happened, Will she figure out who dun it without putting her own life in jeopardy
When I first started reading this book I didn't realize
there were other books in this series and honestly it didn't matter.
The author weaves this story so well, giving plenty of background information that it easily is a stand alone book.
I love the character of Allie, Its easy to imagine her as a no nonsense person who doesn't let anything stop her when she decides to find answers.
She also seems very down to earth, which made me feel like she was an old friend.
As the author reveals Allie's history we learn about the reason she stayed away from Hotawana for fifteen years.
There was also a bit of a family saga going on for her as well, I thought the secondary characters added to the story and also kept me guessing as to who the perp actually was.
If your a fan of murder mysteries where the author provides plenty of twists and turns in the plot and keeps that keeps you guessing until the end your certainly going to enjoy this one.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Blah. Not my type of book, I was bored after the first few chapters, It was flat, the characters were not interesting, This was a goodreads giveaway,
I did not care for this book or the writing style of the author.
It was easy enough to read but the writing and the characters were really annoying!
The main character constantly asking herself several stupid questions really got on my last nerve.
Example: "What am I doing I want to find out why there were lights in the woods last night, but am I being crazy by wandering around alone mere days after my aunt was murdered" Hmm let me think about it.
. . What do you think Sherlock! It was like that throughout the whole book!
Every few chapters we had to hear how Allie was a PI and a lawyer as if we forgot from the first couple of times she mentioned it.
Also, what in the heck does being a PI have anything to do with being a lawyer An online PI crash course to boot! She kept acting like those two skills were pertinent information for us to know! sigh in frustration
The story dragged on and back and forth.
It wasn't too hard to figure out the ending plus she left one really big question unanswered.
I just felt it was a bit cheesy and uninteresting, I would have no further interest in reading any other books from this author,

A cozymystery of the first degree! Wonderful, Plan to stay put and enjoy the latest in Ms, Gaylord's series! Mystery and intrigue wrapped up in a book that can be read in one thrilling day.
The reader meets Allie as she heads back to a summer home that holds many memories both good and bad.
She hasn't been on property inyears due to an accident that forever changed her relationship with her extended family members.
Upon arrival she finds a murder and is flung into an investigation to get to the bottom of what has been happening while she has been away.
As with any murder mystery or who dun its as I like to call them there are twists and turns, but I am always wary that the twists and turns will either be too predictable or come from nowhere.
There is a perfect little pocket where the story unfolds just right and this one did it! With many players in the story, the author introduced them seamlessly and the flow was just right.
I loved the combination of family drama and a murder investigation, it made it a complete story.
All the pieces were there at the beginning but the reader has to read until the very last page to be able to put all the pieces in the correct spot to get the complete story.
This was a perfect book to curl up with the possibility of a snow storm on its way.
First, this book is numberin a series and is not marked on Goodreads as so.
I thought this book was good, not great, I don't think the story, although, I enjoyed it was something that really stood out as a memorable book for me.
I would go back and read the others in the series for challenges as they were needed, but this was not an author that "stood out" as one that I would go out of my way to read.
It just wasn't memorable enough, When Allie arrives at the summerhouse summoned by her cousin Arlene, she is quite surprised to find no one there.
Her Aunt Sallie's car is is out front so she goes in search of someone, when she looks down at the lake she sees her aunt laying on the sand at water's age.
I found this book to be well written with interesting characters, This is the first book in the Allie Armington Mystery series and I hope to read more.
Thanks to Net Galley and Little Moose Press, Allie Armington has returned to the vacation home in the Adirondacks afteryears her cousin, Arlene, to whom she is as close as a sister, invited her, saying she had exciting news that she wanted to share.
When Allie arrives, however, things dont appear right the car belonging to her Aunt Sallie, Arlenes mother, is in front, but there is no sign of either Aunt Sallie or Arlene no sign of anyone.
Deciding they have just gone to the store, Allie lets herself in and helps herself to a glass of lemonade, taking it out onto the balcony overlooking the lake.
However, when she looks down at the lake, she finally sees her Aunt Sallie who is dead and half in the water.
After searching the house, Allie finds Arlene tied up in an upstairs bedroom and obviously drugged Arlene tells of two men in ski masks.
This appears to be theth Allie Armington mystery its the first one Ive read.
Allie is an engaging character, and each of the other characters in the book is welldeveloped, including substantial histories.
There are hints of past events that are never completely revealed Im not sure if some of these are covered in previous volumes or not.
However, even ignorant of previous plotlines, I was able to follow the story it stood on its own just fine.
The plot moves along at a good clip and flows smoothly, The mystery is well done and I never once fingered the correct perpetrator the plot twists kept the road ahead well hidden.
This is a book I can highly recommend for fans of mystery/thriller/suspense fiction if you havent met Louise Gaylords Allie Armington yet, well, what are you waiting for
