feel like I wasyears too late reading this book, There were a few problematic issues with the MMC being a bit misogynistic and a side character just generalizing that because he was straight he couldnt be an actor.
Also the story was allll over the place with a lot of pacing issues, I liked the premise but wouldve liked to see a bit more character development, stars
This was a very enjoyable story, I really liked Scotlyn and Zeke and liked their story a lot,
Scotlyn is the assistant aka business manager at a xrated miniature golf course in Vegas, Scotlyn used to be a showgirl but got laid off and ended up taking the job at the miniature golf course out of desperation.
It didn't pay her bills and her boss was a cross between a wet dream and a pain in the nether regions but she couldn't convince herself to quit.
Zeke is the owner of the xrated miniature golf course and Scotlyn's boss, Zeke acts like a geek pervert and dresses atrociously but in reality, he's a good guy with brains and other skills Scotlyn would never guess.
Zeke's also a shapeshifter that doesn't live with his pack and sees Scotlyn as "his", even if he's not sure if he's good enough for her,
When the story begins, Scotlyn and Zeke are at the golf course after closing and we get to see a bit of their interactions.
Things blow up when some drunk guy appears to be trying to vandalize part of the golf course and while trying to stop him, Scotlyn and Zeke discover that he is a zombie intent on eating them and there's many more where he came from.
Although Zeke had been a bit iffy in his need to claim Scotlyn before this, the zombie apocalypse definitely solidified his feelings.
Zeke became determined to keep Scotlyn with him, get them both to safety and find some of his pack to help out.
Despite their somewhat contentious relationship, they quickly shed their previous attitudes and start working together, becoming a team of, There's a lot of crap going on and it's not easy for them to find safety and get out of Vegas but they and some friends/family do manage and by the end, Scotlyn and Zeke are safe and together and starting on a HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story, I thought Scotlyn was a pretty good heroine, She wasn't perfect but she was likable as well as being real and believable considering the situation she found herself in, Zeke was a good guy and I liked him a lot, I'm not sure why he portrayed himself so badly to Scotlyn before the apocalypse so if you do decide to read this book, don't let first impressions fool you.
Overall, I liked the characters and the story very much and I found it very engaging so I'd recommend it, :D Came across a sample of this in another of Ms Gannon's books and was intrigued and amused, so I went and got the whole thing.
Was not disappointed.
If you want something that is quick, light and fun, with humour, some danger, a little mystery and a lot of romance, then this is a great book for you.
Even better if you like vampires, werewolves and/or zombies in your light romance, This is the CUTEST FUCKIN THING surprisingly, Like
how do you make a book about a zombie apocalypse a guy who owns an xrated mini golf course cute
IDK but it worked.
Here are some of my thoughts:
I love the bantering between Scotlyn and Zeke, Their romance is surprisingly cute, Just judging from the first chapter and even the second, I wasnt expecting the romance to be that adorable especially when first meeting Zeke, but it really is.
Its just pure and sweet and sappy and everything you would want in a romance when the world is filled with chaos.
Like, seriously, imagine finding love in the time of a zombie apocalypse pointing to title, When the world is ending, it pushes these two people to rely on each other, become a bit more honest and brave, and I love that.
Aw. Zeke. It is nice to see a guy who is so wildly inappropriate and irreverent be such a softie, He seems not to give a fuck about anybody else, but he ends up being a hero,
Besides the sweetness though, this book can get pretty damn wacky at times, There are a few emotional/serious scenes, but it is mainly lighthearted and humorous,
I am glad that we get to see a paranormal element besides the zombie thing,
I also like other characters like Caleb, Darcy, and Joseff, The characters are lovable and they are often seen bantering and arguing,
This is not horror IMO despite what the Goodreads genre says, Maybe if we see this in a film, it would be considered scary because of the visuals, but the descriptions in this book are not overthetop.
There is some gore, but it is pretty tame IMO,
Honestly, while finishing the book, I felt like there could be more, I like the ending, but I cant help but feel unsatisfied, More spoilery details on the spoiler section at the bottom of the review,
Also, I would have LOVED to see the scene or at least description of the moment of Zeke first meeting Scotlyn.
So Im giving this stars, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the romance. I love Zeke and Scotlyn, Tbh I would love and book,
