on The Complete Idiots Guide to Natural Childbirth

author is a bit extreme in some of her opinions but I did learn more about natural childbirth, I am glad that I read this and will be using what I learned, Overall a good book. What I liked about the book is how positive it was that a woman can have a natural childbirth, My main dislikes was

how much it pushed for the "home birth experience", the negativity towards medical professionals and their claim that child birth can be "Painless".
. . I am now expecting Numberand have never gone natural but I am this time around, If there is one thing I know is that childbirth DOES hurt, I just wanted help for coping strategies, The book offers good insights and suggestions although I will not be applying it in its entirety, Broken down in a way that makes sense, Honest, unbiased, pretty all inclusive, answered questions I didn't know I had, Definitely worth the read! I also REALLY liked the idiot's guide to natural childbirth, She presents all sides to the issues and is just very uplifting and positive, Basically, whatever you choose for your birth, . . that's your choice! Just know all sides of the issues and choose with all the information at your fingertips, but ultimately know that it is YOUR choice and if you choose to not use medication, here are some techniques to help you.
Also, just the constant reaffirmation that your body is made for this and it is totally possible to do it naturally, should you choose, and all the positive affirmations about labor and birth was just a fun read for me.
Because you basically need to be an idiot, . .

This is a terrible book, which we obviously know has an agenda from the title, No problem there. If you want a natural childbirth then you're looking for information on that subject, ers keep talking about how "balanced" of a book it is, and that is solely because they don't realize how much propaganda is being pushed on them from the natural childbirth ideology side.
The authors couch or misrepresent things in a way that makes their ideas seem balanced, but when they aren't outright lying they're selling a product that doesn't seem like a product, ncb natural childbirth ideology.
I'm surprised they don't go door to door, because it's truly a religion they try to convert people to just read how many people say they were unsure but the book convinced them.

No, homebirth is not safe, no, the study you read isn't accurate, and no, you won't "educate" yourself on the topic by reading natural childbirth books or websites.
You're playing with fire, and if you want to juggle with it on the single most dangerous day of your kids life from age, then go ahead, but don't believe the lies.

Recently a celebrity lost herpound baby at a home birth, which she arranged because the hospital was making her choose between a doula and her spouse due to covid, and a friend of mine spat that she had no sympathy for the parents at all, they were morons that should have known better.
I pretty much agreed. About a week later, in preparation for myth child's birth I reread the book to see if there were any tidbits of help I may have forgotten since I had a home birthyears ago with my first.
There was absolutely nothing of use in the book because now I know better and up from down with these religious zealots, but it instantly made me remember how otherwise intelligent people can be duped into making extremely stupid choices that do nothing but line a midwife or doula's pockets while endangering themselves and their child.

So look, skip the book, Natural birth isn't special. Billions of women have done it and continue to while wishing they had/th the resources the rich white women buying this book have, Natural childbirth isn't empowering and it doesn't make you special, the end, It will happen to literally every single pregnant woman if she doesn't allow interventions, The reasons for different interventions may save your kids life, but whatever, focus on the process and not the outcome if you must,

If you have reasons for wanting to avoid medical intervention that aren't pure narcissism, then you literally needthings,

. Coping mechanisms for pain. Find resources on coping with severe acute pain without medical intervention likely emergency survival guides, because pretty much only those in a real life crisis refuse pain relief if it is actually available and they are in pain, so coping with acute pain just to feel special isn't a topic widely covered, and honestly, reflect on why that might be It's pretty ridiculously stupid and you're probably doing it for stupid reasons.
because coping with chronic pain is a different animal and books on that won't help,

. The ability to say you don't want medical interventions or someone to say it for you you don't even need a birth plan, just say what you want and don't want, if you're such a birth warrior it shouldn't be hard and

.
The actual medical knowledge to know when interventions really are appropriate, FYI, lay midwives, cpms, and even a good portion of cnms doing homebirths DO NOT have this knowledge, because if they did they simply wouldn't be risking your baby's life.
They do what they do based on ideology and not science or safety, Like this book they know just what to say to lure you in, then when the S hits the fan you watch them fall apart and everyone in the natural childbirth community turns their back on you and tells you that you didn't "do enough research.
" Sound like fun The Vag Badge isn't worth killing your baby over, Again, the natural childbirth "literature" won't educate you on this topic whatsoever, any more than the Holy Bible has a chapter on saltwater osmosis, It WILL make you feel special and it will make you feel like you have special, secret knowledge other people aren't gifted enough to understand, but sorry, it's just your ego.

At the end of the day, go to a hospital and say you don't want pain medication regardless of how insanely stupid that sounds, stick with it, and listen to your doctor when they say you actually NEED something.
You can get over a shitty birth experience, but you'll never get over losing your child because you're a narcissist obsessed with a process rather than the outcome of a safe healthy child.
If your kid dies the authors of these books won't send you their condolences, and whatever provider is seeing you at home more than likely has no malpractice insurance, not that it would salve the death of a baby anyway.
If the thought of giving birth on your back in a hospital bed makes you feel helpless and hopeless, imagine how helpless you feel when your totally frivolous choices kill your kid.
Clear, succinct, complete. A satisfying overview of natural birth, encompassing hospital, birthing center, and homebirth settings, A great launchpoint for further research,

Written with intelligence, encouragement, and practicality, A perfect orientation to all things relative to "natural birth," from pregnancy through breastfeeding, This book made me feel a lot more confidant in my ability to give birth naturally, It was funny and informative and very well put together, I picked this book up at the library because I was merely considering a natural childbirth, much less than halfway through I was convinced that natural childbirth is the route for me.
Just finished the book, and I'd already like to reread it! It's very informative, educational, and empowering, Highly recommended to anyone even thinking of a natural childbirth, The more you learn, the more confident you will feel about your abilities to transcend what has become the norm in modern America, . . get back to your roots as a woman and trust your body to do what it is designed to do give birth! Believe it or not, this was my favorite book about natural childbirth.
I received it as a sort of gag gift but it turned out to be extremely informative and helpful, I'd recommend it to anyone considering natural childbirth, informative. As a firsttime mommyinwaiting and a newcomer to the world of natural birth, this book seemed like the ideal choice, It is written by a seasoned, qualified, certified practicing midwife CPM,

The book is broken intosections, covering everything from the very beginning of your pregnancy to postpartum, At the end of each chapter, there are a few bullet points highlighting "the least you need to know, " I found this helpful if I were to just skim a chapter of two to get the basics,

If you really are completely clueless on natural birth, this would be a great place to start, I, however, found that a lot of the info in here I already knew, so I would only come back to this for reference, I am planning a home birth, and while it is somewhat covered in the book, West spends the majority of the time talking about how to prepare for the battle to have a natural birth at a hospital or birthing center.

I definitely took away some great info and tips on doulas, childbirth classes, and breastfeeding, The rest though I think I'll leave for the "complete idiots, " I don't know what it was about this book, it just seemed to rub me the wrong way, There are much better books on preparing for childbirth, I wanted to review techniques for laboring naturally, whether or not I actually was going to deliver naturally, I was avoiding this book at first because it just seems so cliche, and maybe a little offensive I'm not an idiot, But as I was pulling books off the library shelf I just grabbed this one anyway, I really liked how it was organized and fairly to the point, Lots of pregnancy/delivery books are kind of cheesy, This one was fairly limited on the cheese it set forth a lot of important information without making cheesy jokes or sharing women's personal stories sometimes those can be nice, but mostly, I just wanted the info, I didn't care to hear Jenny's and Amanda's and Lindsey's etc.
birthing stories. .
