Adaptado ao teatro inúmeras vezes inclusive em Portugal , tratase do monólogo de um simples funcionário público, vitima da arrogância e do desprezo dos superiores hierárquicos e, principalmente, da filha do seu chefe, por quem nutre uma paixão não correspondida.
É a revolta pela forma deprimente como é tratado que o lança em delírios de grandeza e atitudes absurdas, A fuga à realidade onde não encontraria saída para as suas aspirações tornase a única saída, submergindo cada vez mais numa espiral de loucura que o leva por um caminho sem retorno, de violência e degradação humana.

Νομίζω πως τελείωσα τους Ρώσους κλασικούς κάπου στην πρώτη Λυκείου, κι όταν λέω τελείωσα, το εννοώ, τερμάτισα όλα τα σχετικά ράφια, δεν έμεινε τίποτα εκεί αδιάβαστο. Αυτό έχει δυο καλά κι ένα κακό. Το βασικό καλό είναι οι βάσεις, η αίσθηση της λογοτεχνίας, το υπόβαθρο που μένει. Το δεύτερο καλό είναι πως σε γενικές γραμμές θυμάμαι λγα πράγματα από αυτά τα βιβλία, οπότε μπορώ να τα ξαναδιαβάσω άνετα. Το κακό είναι εμφανές, το να διαβάσεις του Αδελφούς Καραμαζώφ σε αυτήν την ηλικία ίσως να μην είναι τόσο σημαντικό όσο το να τους διαβάσεις ενήλικας.
Το ημερολόγιο ενός τρελού το θυμόμουν, το ήξερα πως το έχω ξαναδιαβάσει. Όμως μέσα στην μανία μου για διάβασμα και την εφηβική μου λύσσα το είχα ξεπετάξει. Είναι ένα μικρό διήγημα, και μιλάει για αυτό που ίσως καίει ακόμα και σήμερα όλους τους νεαρούς ενήλικες ποιος είμαι, με χαρακτηρίζει η δουλειά και τα χρήματα και η καταγωγή, με προσδορίζει μια εργασία κατά βάση ανιαρή, αλλά χρήσιμη για να ζήσω, μπορεί ίσως να είμαι ο βασιλιάς της Ισπανίας και να μην το ξέρω
Το ημερολόγιο ενός τρελού είναι βαθιά βιογραφικό, και χιουμοριστικό και εντελώς μα εντελώς πικρό και δραματικό. Αναδεικνύει την αίσθηση του σύγχρονου ανθρώπου πως γεννήθηκε για κάτι σημαντικό, πως είναι διαφορετικός από όλους τους άλλους και την πικρή συνειδητοποίηση πως τελικά είναι ένα φτωχός δημόσιος υπάλληλος. Παράλληλα σατιρίζει το κοινωνικό γίγνεσθαι της

εποχής, την κόρη του Διευθυντή που θα παντρευτεί ή θαλαμηπόλο ή Στρατηγό, τα σκυλιά της πλουτοκρατίας που είναι τόσο σνομπ όταν γράφουν γράμματα το ένα στο άλλο κ. ο. κ. Και την τρέλα φυσικά, ίσως το μόνο καταφύγιο των υγιώς σκεπτόμενων ανθρώπων.
Υπολογίζω πως πολλά έχουν γραφτεί, κι άλλα τόσα υποτεθεί για το μικρό κείμενο. Εγώ απλά χαίρομαι που το ξαναδιάβασα.
Prima di leggere Le anime morte di Gogol ho voluto ascoltare un'audiolibro da un ora per farmi un idea dello stile e delle caratteristiche di Gogol essendo a me sconosciuto, ho notato la grande profondità dell'autore ma il contenuto di questo romanzo è di quelli secondari, non voglio dire nulla di negativo sia chiaro ma è un racconto breve come ne hanno scritto tanti grandi autori.

Carino ma nulla di eccezionale,

Me pareció un cuento excepcional, me sorprendieron ciertas circunstancias que pasan en la historia, así como, la presente y latente misoginia del personaje principal, y este se vuelve en sus pensamientos y los crea reales o al menos los cree, disfruté cada palabra leída, pero desconozco a que se refiere la última frase del libro.

Μόνο ένας συγγραφέας σαν τον Γκογκόλ θα μπορούσε να συνδυάσει χιούμορ, σάτιρα, θλίψη και ένα τραγικό τέλος αντάξιο του αρχαίου Ελληνικού δράματος Κι όλα αυτά μόνο σεσελίδες!!

Η σταδιακή τρέλα του βασικού χαρακτήρα μέσα από τις σελίδες του ημερολογίου του . Viaje que Gogol ejecuta con especial maestría de lo absurdo,

Nuestro protagonista es un empleado esclavizado por la burocracia de un sistema que se burla de él, sus ambiciones y sus esfuerzos, El desgaste de la rutina junto con el hastío y la frustración que devienen de ésta en asociación con su marcada soledad parecen determinantes cruciales para la demencia que se desencadena aislándolo por completo del mundo real y permitiéndole erguir fantasías en las que se considera el rey de España.


Si bien la historia es simple, es la calidad del delirio lo que la hace rica, Gogol crea circunstancias innegablemente imaginativas que son tan graciosas como absurdas pero que no dejan de integrar el recorrido de un hombre que se libra de los sometimientos de una realidad amarga para reinar en su estado de más irremediable locura.
