was my first read by this author and before I was asked to review ironically a friend of mine was telling me about this story.
So I thought it had to be faith that I read this book,
Georgiana “Georgie” is a mess of emotion and destruction at times, We first meet her and she is kissing one guy and then in the next scene snuggling up to his really good friend Finn the guy who she really likes it.
Can you say a bit young Thats not even the half of it Georgie is very complex she has learn to basically survive on her own, She has no family and her circle of friends are her world, She is a hurt girl and looking for love well affection where she can find it and thats what she did,
Finn now this guy was relentless I dont know many men who would put up with all the tricks and issues that followed Georgiana, She was so hot and cold with him, First she agrees they should be together and then they arent, The cat and mouse game right until the end got a little frustrating and just when you think that ok finally a commitment she jerks poor Finn around on that.
I think as a character she had a lot more growing to do,
I did like that this book was told in so much depth and the characters werent one dimensional its a good plot and not just littered with sex scenes that serve no purpose.
This book centered not only on the two characters relationship but their circle of friends all the secondary characters and there were few as readers we got to see how some of their story unfolded like Jasper and Dex.
I do wish that we got more from the ending after all these two have been through I would have like a little more, This story covered so much like selfhurt, depression, love and codependency, I think the author did a great job it was just elements of this story that really annoyed me, Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review,
ARC Given In Exchange For An Honest ARC in exchange for an honest review,
Things I loved
The cover! Beautiful!
The writing fluid and professional, I would read the author again,
Characters The side characters in the story were lovely, Dex, the female main characters ex was great, Emma/Luke/Astrid were all fab, Even Jasper, who was a bit of a cad was okay!
My main issue with the story was not being able to like the main characters.
Georgiana had experienced a lot of sadness but I didnt feel that in her she seemed very superior and calculating in her attitude, The main male character, Finn, was masterful in some ways, but pleaded and begged too much, About half way though the book I actually hoped they would meet other people and move on,
By the end I felt their characters had tied up some loose ends but not enough for me to root for them,
The only other thing was that there wasn't enough dialogue for me, I like to 'hear' what is going on not be told via exposition and description I felt like I was in Georgiana's head too much but that is just personal preference.
This a bold first book by a new author with style,.stars
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review, I wish I could say that I loved this book but unfortunately, I struggled with it,
While reading the very first chapter, I began to dislike the female main character Georgiana, In that first chapter alone, Georgiana made more thanhorrible decision, Throughout the book she continued to make asinine, nonsensical choices and did ridiculous things that negatively impacted her and the people around her, For example, Georgiana would repeatedly go on dates with men she had no interest in, even going on several dates with a man she, "loathed"! Initially, I assumed Georgiana had reasons or ulterior motives for the way she behaved yet she never did.
Another example was when Georgiana allowed a man she was not interested in to kiss her several times in front of the man she WAS interested in I assumed she was trying to make the man she was interested in jealous but no, Georgiana continued to let the guy she was not interested in ravish her mouth simply because he was a good kisser.
Reading Georgiana's thoughts and actions was exhausting and gave me mental whiplash! For awhile I wondered if Georgiana was supposed to be mentally ill as this would explain her senseless thoughts and actions but no, this was not the case either.
However, we do eventually learn that Georgiana has secrets! She had a traumatic past that shaped her into who she was now, I kept waiting for Georgiana to reveal the horrific, life altering experiences or events she had been keeping secret, eagerly awaiting to find out what atrocities she endured that had caused her to have such ludicrous thinking and behavior.
When the revelation finally came I was again extremely disappointed, These, "secrets" were small speed bumps, not the huge mountains I had expected from all of the buildup, Keeping these secrets to herself for so many years was IMO just another example illustrating the foolish choices Georgiana makes, Basically, I found Georgiana to be a very unlikable character who repeatedly did, said and thought things that were ignorant,
I was also baffled by the behaviors of several other characters in this story, For example, a male character named Jasper, I suppose Jasper is supposed to be an excessively sensitive man but there was absolutely no reason for the tearful scene regarding his parents divorce we never hear another word about his parents nor do we meet them! I couldn't find any reason why this scene was part of the book.
By the way, Jasper isn't even the male main character in the book, he's just a minor character who I feel had way too many pages written about him.
I am confident that this book would be greatly improved after some thorough editing, To be more specific, I was occasionally distracted by what I felt were odd words and unusual sentences, For example,"The food was tiny and pretty and the music was gay" and, ", . . she wanted me to rein her in to save her from the constant cockup she was making of her life, " I would also encourage the author to use a wider range of words, For example, I felt the term,"channel" was overused in reference to female genitalia, I also would have liked for the author to omit some of the unnecessary content such as Jasper's crying scene, Readers don't need to know that Georgiana removed her make up, adjusted the temperature in the shower, rested her head on her forearm against the wall, patted her body dry, etc.
. This is a lengthy book so sentences like, "Emma had forgotten to put fruit into it so it was just kale and coconut milk, It was surprisingly good, albeit mildly bitter" are just unnecessary filler,
I believe Ms, Scarlet had the basis for a good storyline yet there seemed to be some glitches getting the story from her head onto paper/computer, As I mentioned, with some editing, I truly think this book could become a success! A reading buddy of mine recommended this story to me and I decided to read it.
This is my first book by this author,
This is Georgiana and Finn's story, Both Georgiana and Finn have issues but Georgiana's in my opinion is the one with the serious issues, She lost her all her family in one devastating incident, From this one gruelling loss comes all Georgiana's relational issues,
I struggled to like Georgiana and in Finn's own words "God, you are fucking coldhearted sometimes", I don't know about sometimes I found her very cruel especially to Finn, I was not rooting for her I was rooting for Finn, This rarely happens to me where I ended up supporting the man more than the woman but in this story I did, The people supporting characters like Jasper who she should have been cruel to she was not, I hate Jasper I thought he was a first class jerk, You will have to read the book to find out why,
The whole story read like a Greek Tragedy to me, It was a riveting and out of the box read, I had never read a story quiet like this one, It was an emotional rollercoater and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, I actually felt stressed reading the book, It had me yelling at my kindle I could not believe what I was reading!
For those concerned about the BDSM element this was more mental dominance than physical they don't use any whips or tie each other up, its nothing like that! Its more about demanding and imposing his will on her
This is not your typical romance story, its raw and totally unglamorous.
Definitely worth a read.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review
Thank you Sophia Scarlet for giving me the opportunity to read thisbook.
Georgiana is a young women that has lived a life of loss, At a young age she lost her parents and sister, then the passing of her grandmother a few years later, to be left in the care of her aunt and uncle that really didn't want her.
So she was out on her own at the age of, Through that time she developed a relationship with Dex, Then he decided to go away to college, Georgie again experienced loss. Through the years they remained very good friends, After college Dex decided to go in the service, Her oldest and dearest friend was finally coming home and they were going to have a celebration, Feeling excited she agreed to go on a morning run with her friend Astrid, Not being an avid runner she couldn't keep up the pace, Stopping to catch her breath and take a break, another runner was coming around the trail startling her, When he passed, in is distraction he tripped and fell to the ground, Not really able to make him out, she does notice that he had handsome features that she couldn't stop thinking about,
Finn Hayden is the man Geogiana has been obsessing about on the running trail, In a chance meeting at Dexter's coming home party he is in his group of friends, Unfortunately, his other friend Jasper, tries to stake his claim on Georgie, Not knowing that she has commitment issues, he comes on way to strong, This leads to her pushing him far away making room for Finn, Yay!
Her and Finn become hot and heavy, She is drawn to his dominance and he wants to be her protector, He knows that she has many underlying issues and wants to invest his time helping her, Not realizing he is pushing boundaries he ultimately pushes her away, Finn accepts a job in California leaving Georgie in Maryland, He is heartbroken and deep
down so is she,
Through a series of events Georgie is now in California helping her friend while she is pregnant, Subconsciously, she is hoping to run into Finn, but it's been months, Will he still be single, more importantly, if he is would he still want her
At times I found Georgie very annoying, Most of the story is in her POV and in her mind she wants to do and say the right thing but it never comes out, I know she is on a journey of selfdiscovery, but I found her very frustrating, I really do love their story and an occasional look at his POV, He is truly every woman's dream man, I also love how the author wrapped up the underlying characters, I truly would recommend this book, Oh yeah, and the sex scenes are hot and steamy!!!
