Acquire Today True Heroes Created By Jonathan Diaz Issued As Pamphlet

on True Heroes

just finished reading this amazing book and the Title says it all! One of the most inspiring books I've read.

True Heroes is a wonderful project, The photographer, Jonathon Diaz, went out and talked to real kids who have Cancer, He asked them what they wanted to be, if they could have any occupation at all.

One child said a warrior princess, One said a firefighter. One said they wanted to read a lot, Another wanted to be a baker, another a superhero, another a pirate,

And he made that happen, He took photos of them, and enchanted these photos, to make the child actually appear as that occupation.
One example is the front cover of this book!

Not only were the photos stunning, the child also got a little short story about them in that occupation, doing what they most wanted to do.
I thought that was so amazing and heartwarming by itself,

The stories themselves always gave me a happy feeling at the end of reading them, because they were filled with such inspiration and hope.
Some contributors that wrote stories include: Shannon Hale, Brandon Mull, Allie Condie, and more,

If you asked me to choose a favorite in this collection, I couldn't be able to say! I loved them all and thought they were all so unique.

I'd recommend this book, because it was just such a touching book to read.
I took my time with reading it on purpose, because I knew it was something that I could pick up at any time and it would make me smile.
I only read Ally Condie's The Drop Off and I did not care for it.

for that story, but I'm not rating the book as a whole as it may very well be much better.
Selected children who are suffering with cancer, get a specific story written just for them by a famous author.
Definitely meant for children and tweens, While I was looking for upcoming Jennifer Nielsen and Brandon Mull books to preorder, I kept seeing this title pop up in the search results.
I finally took time to read the synopsis, preview Jonathan Diazs introduction, and decide I had to read this treasury.

Besides Jennifer Nielsen, Brandon Mull, Shannon Hale, and Liesl Shurtliff works of whom I have previously read all great authors, I discovered other talented authors who wrote inspiring fairy tales.
The photographs are excellent and moving, The biographies of these true heroes stir emotions, The fairy tales remind us life is hard but hope abounds and when one has courage, it is possible to overcome challenges and chase dreams.
I know a little girl who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and whenever I see her, I marvel at how cheerful and energetic she is towards life despite all she has endured.
She along with the true heroes in this book and the other brave children out there are wonderful testimonies of strength.

This book is a compilation put together to raise money for an amazing charity and to tell the stories of some pretty spectacular kids who are True Heroes in real life as they battle cancer at a very young age.

The stories in the book are inspired by or made up for these kids.
If I had my "official story critic" hat on I'd probably give most of them three.
But that's not what this book is about, Like I said before, it's about these kids and their dreams, and I'd give them five, a hundred, all the in the sky if I could!

So that's where the fourstar rating came from, in case you were wondering.
If you're considering buying this book, please do, The photographs are beautiful, the kids are incredible, and the cause is truly worthy, Wonderful photos of these children, Im sure they treasure this book, The stories are sweet but vary in quality, This book was really good in a sad sort of way, It was so sad reading about all these children who have had to struggle for life at such an early age, yet I was glad I read it as this book helped me be more aware of these children around me.
And what I can do to help, Sometimes it's just a short story or kind word, Sometimes it's just a card or playing a game, And these small gestures can really change people for good, I listened to this but when I found out there were pictures of the "super hero" kids I had to find the book too.
It didn't disappoint. These short stories written for cancer warriors are really touching, What a fabulous project. This book is heart warming and heart wrenching all at the same time, I think the project behind this book is wonderful and inspiringmost especially because the subject, these beautiful children, are wonderful and inspiring.
Many of the stories are fun and well written, I love that each story is written with a specific child in mind, keeping in mind that childs dream and making him/her the hero.
Each story could easily stand on its own and each would make fun little bedtime stories.
I also love the photos and QR codes for more, Lovely book. Very unique book very similar to my senior art show, The book was created by a photographer who took photos and then created illustrations of kids with cancer and their biggest dreams.
. . to be a fireman, a number of princesses, mermaid, chef, pro motor biker, play soccer in college, and many others.
The book includes a variety of the top children's books authors who write a creative story on each kid achieving his or her dream.
In the process of writing the stories, each child actually gets to experience part of his or her dream becoming reality.
. . meeting a fave motocross racer and racing him or being a fireman for a day, But, the really unique and cool thing is that each story has a QR code to scan and the reader can watch behind the scenes things that happened to create the story.
. . interviews, the photo shoots, and their day out having their dreams fulfilled, The illustrations are beautiful and the kids are so determined! I think I enjoyed the children's real life stories more.
I like the idea behind the book, I wish it would have worked out that this could have continued and served many children.
It didn't help that the cover wasn't enticing, Amazing Cancer Cuties written into the stories of their dreams, The photos of these reallife cancer fighters are superb, Such a touching project! Super fun collection of short stories from a great group of authors.
Would be great to listen to with the whole family on a road trip, My favorite was Swimming In the Stars by Ilima Todd, loved the ending, I love this book, makes my heart warm, so many emotions!! I thought this was a cute premise, but, like most story anthologies, some of the stories were amazing and some were duds.
I was reading this on a mobile device so the pictures didn't show very clear, I would have liked to see them better, The prompt is a fun idea, but I could see how difficult it was to create a comprehensive story in the short word count, especially one that met the child's expectations.
Some of stories better than others but overall quick enjoyable read This book is AMAZING!

I LOVE the idea of photographing a child in his dreamcometrue picture!

I also absolutely LOVED reading the bio of each child!

And to have an author write them into a story of their own WOW! So WONDERFUL!

FUN! FABULOUS! FANTASTIC! Stories! The real and the makebelieve!

This is a book for the WHOLE FAMILY!

One that you won't be able to put down until the last story is shared!

PERFECT for bedtime stories!

I so wish I could just copy the whole book here for youit is that breathtaking
But alas all I can do is share a few sample pages

THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS
REALLY ARE THE TRUE HEROES A beautifully conceived book by a lawyer who moonlights as a photographer and wants to capture precious dreamlike moments and provide dreamlike experiences for children with cancer! Colin and I have enjoyed going back through and scanning the QR codes for more photos and information.
In addition to the brief introduction of each child, the QR codes, and the gorgeous photographs, each child has a story written in their honor.
ltMy favorite stories are the silly and sweet "A Fireman Always Helps" in which a fireman finds himself rescuing a kite and lots of other progressively sillier things from a tree, "Sophia's Wings" for a little girl whose biggest wish is to read a lot, "The Princess in the Mirror" in which a young princess learns that her magic mirror is not a separate being, but really just reflecting the strength inside her, and "Batkid versus the Bully" in which the villain has such crazy contraptions as a giant spitwad thrower and dodgeball gun.
Beautiful book, gorgeous pictures, inspiring children I read this book with my younger two kids just a bit at a time before bed.
I liked how the stories of real children battling disease were included in along with fantasy stories about them as the main characters battling dragons or winning games or improving their skills elsewhere.

I also appreciated their stories and the opportunity it gave me to share them with my children to widen their horizons a little bit about others and their challenges.
This is such a unique book, I started listening to it on Audio, but I just had to get the book, The photographs are amazing. The stories written by the variety of authors are also amazing, This is a great read!!! most incredible book ever There are not enough words as to how much I loved this book! I was left feeling completely inspired and in awe of both the heroic kids featured, but also by the brilliant author who wrote the stories! How can you not be moved to tears to see the question "If you could be anything, what would you be" to bought to the page.
These brave children bared their dreams for us to see, I am crying when I try to put into words how this book made me feel.
It shows the true spirit of the bright light of children even in difficult times, like sickness.
That despite these hard times, they can dream and inspire and move others, They let their wonderful souls show and created a oneinalifetime read that I know will move you to tears too!overthemoon!!! This was smiles the whole way through.
Amazing kids and beautiful photos!!! Loved reading this to my babies, These kids are amazing and inspiring!! This book is full of sadness, hope, strength, courage, adventure, and magic! I loved reading the stories of the incredible children, followed by wonderfully inspired stories by various authors for these kids and others.
I highly recommend this book, although you may need tissues through a few parts of it.
I especially found myself in tears after Jordans story, I loved Sophias story, and her picture is amazing! I love how well her picture

captures the fantastic world that books and stories offer us.
This is one of those kind of books that offers dreams coming to life! I also love the quotes used through this book! My heart goes out to the children in this book, and their families, and others facing similar situations.
The Fantasy stories for these children would also make wonderful bed time stories for any kid.
