A rather eclectic collection of stories in the Falls Chance Ranch universe, They are great to read for greater understanding of characters in the main series, and I think much more appreciated after first reading the main books,

There was not one story I disliked,

'The Landing Strip',/

This is the story of how Riley ended up on the Ranch, :

To be honest, I could have read a whole book about this, Fifteenyearold Riley was angrier and sadder than the Riley of the main stories, but deep down he was still the same old Riley with

his heart on his sleeve and his love of horses.
It was great seeing younger versions of Paul, Flynn, and Jasper too, as well as getting my very first look at the muchtalkedabout Philip, It was nice to see how Riley latched onto Flynn from the very beginning something that is obvious in the main books, and also how much of a natural Riley was with the horses.

It was also interesting to see Riley's father, and the circumstances that led Riley to the Ranch, My respect for Philip, which was already pretty high from just characters talking about him in the main series, skyrocketed, I'm looking forward to reading more stories where he is an active main character,

Writing style was a little wonky at the start though not bad, just a little clumsy, but, as has usually been the case for me with the FCR books, the story and characters soon overtook that and I didn't even notice.
The characterisation that Rolf and Ranger manage to put into their characters is, for me, something truly special,

Not much else to say about this story aside from repeating that I would have loved a whole book about Riley's 'origin story', but I would love to see more about how Riley settled into the Ranch life.
Hopefully some of these other stories will have some of that, :

'Eagle Canyon'/

A coming of age story for Flynn/Jasper, and later Riley,

This one was a little disorientating and disjointed whilst reading, though it all made sense at the end, I have to knock a star off for being thrown from the story a couple of times until I got my bearings though,

It gave great background into the characters, as usual, and gave me more of Riley and his earlyish interactions on the Ranch, which I enjoyed, I think one of the most interesting things about this story, however, was seeing Flynn and to some extent, Jasper, though he seemed as he always does as a young man.
Again, I'd like to see more of that in these stories as I go through them and the others outside of this book, :

I also have grown to love the Native American/spiritual moments in these books, and this story had a few,

The last part of this story was my favourite, however, I feel like that moment might have been the true beginning of Paul/Jasper/Flynn/Riley, though none of them acknowledged it,

'Echo',/

This is a short story focusing on the stallion, Bandit, his rescue of a mare and foal, and on his relationship with Flynn,

This story was told mainly from the points of view of Flynn and of Bandit, and really emphasised the special relationship between man and horse, I wasn't quite sure how reading from the point of view of a horse would work for me that's usually a turn off for me when reading fiction, but here it worked surprisingly well.
It didn't seem gimmicky, only natural, and I found myself residing as comfortably in Bandit's head as I did in Flynn's,

It ended before I thought it would , but where it did end seemed like a natural place.

Just a lovely story,

'Will You Walk A Little Faster'/

Jake and Tom's 'origin story',

I love Jake and Tom, I love this story. All of my feels.

The FCR stories and books are not often told from a first person perspective, So far, I've only seen it in Silver Bullet Everest, where first person point of view meant Jake, and here, where it's Tom's point of view, This story was written long before Silver Bullet Everest, so I wonder if having a bit of first person point of view there was a clever echo of this story.

It was great to have an insight of how Jake inserted himself so smoothly and firmly into Tom's life, Reading through the other books, and seeing how closed of and prickly Tom is, I did wonder, I already had a great respect for Jake, and a great love for these two as a couple, and this story cemented both of those things,

This story also included pictures that helped set each scene, I thought that was a nice touch though probably would have worked better if I'd read this story on the website it was first put up on where they were in colour rather than in Kindle format where they were in black and white.
:

I love how much research Rolf and Ranger do in their stories too, Egypt came alive for me in this story, much like Mount Everest did in Jake and Tom's book,

My favourite story in the book so far,

'Shenanigan's Overlook'/

Dale's first Christmas at the Ranch,

I loved this story, It was so heartwarming and yet hilarious all at the same time, From Flynn 'bratting' at the mall, to Dale playing with snowballs and building snowmen and with Riley, I loved every bit of this story.

I really appreciate the extra insight into Paul's character we got in this story as well, That family would completely fall apart without him, I think,

Just great.

'The Twelve Days of Christmas'/

A short story made out of shorter stories, These are snapshots from different times fromtofocusing on different members of the family at or around Christmas,

I enjoyed some of the stories more than others, but appreciated them all for their insight on each of the characters they focused on, I particularly enjoyed the one that focused on Philip and Gerry, a character who has a lot more depth than it often appears, PreRanch Dale and preRanch Flynn, Paul, and Jasper was interesting too, as was seeing the moment where Philip and David laid eyes on each other for the first time.

It's hard to review this story because it was just little snippets about a lot of different characters, but it also did a great job, in those little snippets, of getting inside the characters' heads.

Really interesting, but hard to review, Definitely a story for longtime readers rather than people jumping straight in here,

'The Brig'/

Dale has businessmen for a meeting on the Ranch,

The forum puts this chronologically after Silver Bullet Ranch, so it's interesting to see how much Dale has grown from the first books, but also to see how much he still has to learn.
It is obviously not a complete process yet, though Dale is certainly heading in the right direction,

Dale's been quite connected to David throughout the books, so it was nice to see him gaining a little bit of a connection to Philip as well through the conference room.
The more I learn about the man Philip was, the more I like him,

The last scene had me giggling, Sometimes I forget that Jasper has a sense of humour, and then he does something like .
And then, of course, "Steak, steak, steak!" Poor Paul,

Great story.

'Keeper's Yard'/

The story of how Paul came to live on the Ranch,

I'm so used to Paul belonging there that it was really interesting to see him as an outsider, I loved getting to see him interact with David, who we haven't seen a lot of really, I love these glimpses into the past, Seeing younger Gerry is always a treat, too,

I don't really have much to add aside from the fact I have a deeper appreciation for Paul now having read this,

Great story. : Loved this, loved that it was all in one epub available via the yahoo group, Favorite story was Echo. FCR
