don't like the ending of it but it was a good and meaningless angst, Spoilers!!!! My opinion on the hero in this book will be less popular with most who read it.
Im going to give him some slack at least until chapter, and here is why, . . Imagine a room with Ryan Reynolds, Orlando Bloom, Bradley Cooper, Colin Farrell, all in their mids, the same age John Candy was when he died.
Most likely you are going to be interested in the other guys who are attractive and fit, not Candy who is overweight and just average in looks.
Now Candy may be the best of all them, . . hes funny, I heard he was nice, and he was a family man, But you probably arent thinking I wished he ld take me home and ravish me, . . this is human nature. Our hero was no different, . . and although he made disparaging remarks about the h it was never meant for her ears, he enjoyed the friendship that was developing with the h and was never cruel to heruntil chapterits not like he was walking around the set wearing a “no fat chicks allowed tshirt”which by the way, some guys I have seen wearing these shirts REALLY should not limit their options.
. . you know what I mean Moving along, the heroine, upon hearing the remarks gives the H the cold shouldergood for her and spends the nextmonths getting back to her normal, trim beautiful self She takes herself to Jamaica for some R and R.
and to get over the H who she did have feelings for, Low and behold the H is in Jamaica as well with his plot moppet niece, . . he doesnt recognize the h although he has this feeling he knows her from somewhere, . . this is where I feel bad for the H, . . he spends the nextweeks falling in love with the h while she keeps her identity a secret.
. . she needs to get a little bit of her own backI agree but she takes it too far and realizes too late.
. . after leaving a I gotcha note for the H she goes back to England, . . full of regret for what she has done, . .weeks later, and the dreaded chapter, the hero comes back at the h with so much anger.
He basically tells her he is going to out revenge her by courting her more beautiful, younger, vivacious cousin Jennyfor a hot minute I felt bad for Jenny because she was being treated like a juicy piece of meat.
. . he will sleep with her unlike the h who is obviously frigid and a virgin so,
The H at this point takes cruelty to a new level, . . however, being the besotted hero he is, . . he is unable to take his revenge all the way, . . After an intense lovemaking session in the hs bedroom, . . the Hero decides its better to move on and cut the h out of his life leaving her virginity intact.
He will never see her again, weeks later the besotted hero is in Italy begging the lovelorn h to take him back, They profess mad love for each other, . . the h decides acting is not for her and she will be content to be a wealthy wife with children.
. . the book ends with a fade to black consummation of their love which we can assume lead to the loss of her virginity and most likely pregnant on the first try extravaganza!!
This book had some very good angst in it.
. . I waffled between giving it aor, . . but to make sure it keeps its status of a, I gave it a, I think there are several who would enjoy this, . . although I dont think I would reread it, "Duel of Passion" is the story of Sophie and Kyle,
B I G N O P E,
All I want from my heroines is to have some self respect, Is that too much to ask
Imagine a man fat shames you, calls you ugly and ridicules you.
He hurts you badly, forcing you to change your perspective on love, especially as you were infatuated with said man.
Now, if you lose weight and are "pretty" again because ofcourse, overweight women who wear glasses deserve to be called unattractive and be mocked and the hero returns trying to sex you and comments repeatedly on your "slimming beauty" would you give in Somehow, the heroine falls in love with this mofo asshat and then lets him berate her further and take revenge I MEAN WTF.
If the answer is yes, this book is for you, If not, you and I are on same wavelength and would happily barbecue the hero and feed to cannibals.
POS.
Yup Im mad, One of the WORST books I've ever read, Im gonna burn this. DNF.
Unsafe
/Not very interesting,
Hero is a Scorpio and heroine a virgin in every way
Shes an actress and she meets the hero while acting as an overweight and ugly girl, she hears the hero making awful remarks about her looks and shes shattered.
Months later shes back to her beautiful and charming self and she meets the hero again.
He doesnt recognize her and she decides to play a little game with him, but she falls in love with him instead.
Then, in the middle of the game, she leaves him with a note explaining who she really is.
The hero who is a vindictive Scorpio what a pitiful generalization decides to make her pay and courts her cousin in front of her, dating her and making innuendos about a sexual relationship with her.
The heroine is hurt and leaves again to Italy this time, where she acts in a movie.
Some weeks later the hero is back with his tail between his legs and apologizes for his nasty behavior.
Hea.
Not much to say, the heroine is a doormat and she lets the hero hurt her without defending herself, she let him debase, verbally abuse her and making repeated body shaming remarks.
The man is shallow and a poor loser,
He was unkind to her the very first time they met only because her looks were unflattering.
He only judged her for her outer appearance,
Then he tried to hurt her pretending to be interested in her cousin and flaunting her in front of heroine.
The heroine forgave him yesterday, No sorry girl, this wont do,
Only remarkable moment.
In the end their are in bed together and hes going to have sex with her for the first time.
He tells her : you know Scorpios have stings,
And she replies then sting me,
Jeez! Really
Im dead, A must read vintage!!! Revenge vs Revenge an a passionate war with no winners! Oh no toyed with a man's affections now that you lost a bunch of weight doesn't go as planned Shocking! "An overweight owl" was how attractive financier Kyle Hart had described Sophie when she'd put on forty pounds for her bigbreak film.
He'd never bothered to look beneath the exterior she'd only been Maisie, a physically unattractive woman whose so obvious infatuation with him had been laughable.
Only now, Sophie was back to her normal, slim self and Kyle Hart hadn't recognized the attractive woman on the beach.
It was Sophie's chance to turn the tables on him but could she escape with her own heart intact This is part of the books I inherited from my grandmother after she died.
As a teen she would lend me volumes of Harlequin novelsfrom the's/'s/'sbecause they interested me.
I'll admit something off the top, I loved this book, I mean I loved it with a pretty fierce passion, I must have read it at least a dozen times between the ages ofand, And that's even with the almost not quite forced consent love scene that nearly happens,
I think what grabbed me as a young teen was the fact that Sophie remade herself or rather unmade what she had become for a role in a TV show and hey it grabbed the attention of the guy she was pining for.
At the time I read this originally that was my dreamto suddenly flourish and the guy I had been nursing a crush on to notice me and be like 'Where have you been' and I'd laugh and say 'right under your nose' with a dramatic kiss.
So yeah I may have projected just a little,
On a reread as an adult I haven't touched this book in gosh aboutyears maybe more I
realized that they both need a LOT of serious therapy.
I mean it. Sophie needs help because she let something get to her so badly that a year later she decides to get revenge on the man by getting him sexually frustrated.
Kyle needs help because he then wants revenge for her revenge and all buts tells Sophie he's seducing her younger cousin.
Meanwhile they're both so hung up on each other that they can't eat or sleep or even hold a conversation properly.
Still I admire Ker in her ability to still make me want to let them get together.
They deserve each other, though I find it, . . unrealistic that Sophie would give up everything she worked for just because she suddenly has Kyle, I mean really But that seems to be really popular in Harlequin novels of this era, I really like the heroine in this but it was like she belonged in a different book.
It was all from her point of view but everything around her seemed very very far, Why couldn't the hero just admit he was an ass and apologize Nope gonna lead on you cousinwho I know purposely hurts you to hurt you, even though I hurt you first.
Liked the heroine but not much else, Skip. Duel Of Passion by Madeleine Ker released on Oct,is available now for purchase, Meh I love a good revenge story but this one didn't do much for me, I never warmed to the hero and it bugged me that the heroine kept confessing her feelings for him when he was being so cruel to her.
I wish she'd had more pride, Yeah, she hurt him by her charade, but he was overall the bigger jerk, Old fashioned romance with no real sex and the angst is pretty low key, I still really liked it, that was certainly a harlequin Sophie wants to be an actress and finally has the part to give her the push in the acting field that she needs.
She just needed a transformation that will make her unrecognizable from her true self, When she first met Kyle Hart she was infatuated with the attractive banker but overhears what he really thinks cuts to the core.
Heartbroken she uses her real emotions to put them into her final scenes and as soon as the film is done she heads off to lose the weight.
It's been overlong months since she had her heart broken by Kyle, and now she's ready for a muchneeded vacation.
Finding a Jamaican holiday on sale proves to be just what she needed and spending the days with a book on a beach is perfect for her.
However, things dramatically change when the one man who hurt her has shown up on the beach.
When Sophie learns that he doesn't recognize her she decides to use it to play a joke on Kyle.
She just didn't expect to fall in love with him all over, When the truth comes out will he be thrilled or will revenge be on the agenda
I like Sophie she's a sweet innocent girl who's maybe a little more nieve than she should be in her early twenties.
I admit that I wasn't sure about Kyle at first because he does come off as a little vain worried so much about how beautiful she now that she looks herself again.
While he was out for revenge against Sophie we can see that she means more than just a holiday fling to him by the way he's hurting and he won me over.
I picked this one up a few weeks ago at a used bookstore and was hoping to get a chance to read it.
I'm a sucker for classic Harlequin romance novels they are quick, fastpaced, just enough steamy moments and always a happy ever after.
I enjoyed Duel of Passion it's an emotional rollercoaster with characters that capture the heart as well as the imagination.
I admit I had a few moments that I wanted to toss the book across the room and was a little nervous that it wouldn't give me a happy ever after but it was worth the wait.
Perfect for anyone needing a quick happy ever after and easy to finish in one sitting, I enjoyed the authors writing style it flows from start to finish and I can't wait to check out other books by her.
