Enjoy A Menagerie Of Heroes Authored By Garret Biggerstaff Available As Publication
feel it's a bit unfair to review the whole thing since I was a contributor and editor for the book, I will say however that this one is on par with Furtual Horizons in terms of both quality and creativity, The stories in it run the gamut of the heroic journey from light to dark, and some of them rather humorous,
My personal favorites of the book were 'Fox Confessor Brings the Flood' for it's distinctly and rather honestly Asian feel, which sets it apart from the other stories, and 'In the Days of the WitchQueens' for it's sheer atavism and Conan the Barbarian like world structure.
I will also freely admit that in my opinion 'Tiny Hooves' is probably the standout piece of the anthology, if only because the writer's take on unicorns is unique and a little chilling, but at the same time believable.
A really solid anthology that kept me reading, but did unfortunately suffer from a lack of thorough editing, Despite some extra words, incorrect word usage, missing apostrophes and in one case inconsistent character names, the stories were all engaging and entertaining, In almost all instances it was easy to forgive the spattering of errors and fully embed in the tale,
A few were rougher than others, but most were
solid, fun stories featuring animal characters, My personal standouts were:
Come the Storm, which tells of the unlikely friendship between natural enemies in a time of need,
Tatch's Tale, probably my favorite for its delightfully humorous portrayal of the kobold's life,
Bond of Spirit, for tight writing and engaging storytelling with very few noticeable errors,
Lastly, In the Days of the WitchQueens which had a far more brutal feel to it than the rest but used language beautifully and was written in the undeniable style of the classic sword and sorcery story.
Overall, a fabulous and diverse collection of anthropomorphic stories that will probably not be the right book for the grammar nazi, but will be sure to entertain those of us who can forgive a little goof or two for the sake of the action.
The RainFurrest Annual Charity Anthology was created to celebrate and showcase the literary aspect of the anthropomorphics fandom as well as to raise funds for charity.
