Snag Doctor Who: Underwater War (Doctor Who: Eleventh Doctor Adventures) Executed By Richard Dinnick Format Kindle
the three young adult/Penguin series Whoniverse novels I've read so far, this one disappoints me the most, The style completely rubs me the wrong way it feels a bit patronizing, and it's trying too hard to be accessible to a younger readership, Books such as "Death Riders" and "Extra Time" feel more like adult stories that anybody, at any age, could enjoy, . . but this one just feels too simple and too basic for its own good, It is nice reading stories that are different from the TV show, Though it would be cool to see these made into live action episodes, A nice good but short Doctor Who story, I was able to read this one in less than a week however, but still is was a good read, The plot may have moved rather quickly and the story was a little rushed, In this tale The Doctor, Rory, and Amy are on an exciting new adventure, Instead of ending up in the Tower Of London the trio is on the Cosmic Rover, A spacecraft over the planet Hydron, Hydron inhabited by the Shoal is water
world with few small islands with fresh water lakes, These islands or more so valcanoes are where the Shoal lay their eggs, The eggs however can be used as fuel, and Mr, Fleming plans to become rich off of the profits from the eggs, Can The Doctor and his friends stop a possible war between the humans and the Shoal Or are they two late This book is what I feared all Doctor Who books would be: abysmal.
Thankfully, it is by far the worst I have found in a surprisingly intelligent and engaging genre, This, however, filled with exposition and excessive explanation amp rendering both Amy and Rory downright idiotic, was written for an audience of slightly slow nineyearolds, Give it a pass!! In The Underwater War, the Eleventh Doctor and his companions are on board the Cosmic Rover, a spaceship orbiting the water planet Hydron.
Joining the crew, they journey underwater on an apparently scientific exploration, But nothing is as it seems on the hightech submarine, When a virus infects the crew, the Doctor discovers the ship is hiding a dangerous secret, . . Egh. After a few home runs, this Doctor Who novel just bit it, The writing was just so bland and 'tell'ey, It felt like I was reading a very young children's novel, Definitely not my favorite. Author Richard Dinnick brings us the tale of the Doctor, Amy, and Rory as they materialize aboard a ship orbiting an ocean planet, The Doctor walks in on the ships captain and uses his physic paper and tells her that he's from the home office on Earth, The Captain unwillingly agrees to let him Amy and Rory to come along on their mission, As they board the submarine that it loaded onto a drop ship the Doctor begins to feel that something isn't right, And he sniffs out the problem after taking a small submersible out to look around, He and Amy are captured but the Shoal only speak with colors and the Doctor must build a translator so they can communicate, This is a fast passed story and well worth the read, I highly recommend it for all Doctor Who fans, The Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive on a spaceship carrying a submarine it's due to drop on the water world of Hydron, But the intelligent fish there have met humans before, and they plan on killing the new arrivals, It's up to the Doctor to stop an underwater war,
Written for younger readers, this is a straightforward novel that zips along, The only problem with it is that the author has a tendency to write down to his audience, Other than that, it's an enjoyable romp, Richard is a writer for TV, comics and books, He is currently working on the TV show, Thunderbirds Are Go! and is a regular contributor to Titansth Doctor ongoing comic amongst other ranges, His new Doctor Who book, Myths Legends is published in June, In the past he has written audio drama scripts for franchises such as Doctor Who, Stargate, Sherlock Holmes and Sapphire Steel, His first novel Alien Adventures was published by BBC Childrens Books inand he has since gone on to write books and short stories for Penguin UK, Titan Publishing, Black Library, Running Press and Snow Books.
