Gather The Rebel And The Redcoat Executed By Karyn Monk Textbook

Armstrong hides a British Officer in her barn, nursing him back to health after he took a bullet saving her life, But when the rebel army finds out she has been harboring the enemy, she has a choice of either going to prison or traveling to Charles Town to spy on the British and pass information to the rebels.

This was a fast paced story of two people on opposite sides of a war, I liked the story, but felt the hero and heroine fell in love way too fast after just a couple of short, explosive meetings, But, it's so nice to find a romance set during the Revolutionary War, There just isn't too many out there, My Stars. Tried fordays to get into the story and it just didn't interest me like I wanted it to, DNF I should give the book another star for the historical background and realistic scenes of army camps, but to be honest, I just couldn't get into the story, which disappointed me, as I tend to like ones about Rebel spies.
I also like ones about lovers on opposite sides of the war, But I didn't feel any chemistry between Josephine and Damien, even during their love scenes, which seemed more artificial than passionate, Nothing about them as a couple rang true, even all the emotionally charged scenes, where they risked their loyalty to their causes to save each other's lives just fell flat.

And there were too many of them, and just kept getting more ridiculous, Josephine's calling Damien "redcoat" for the umpteenth time just got ridiculous, as did her vacillating from hating all British, then feeling understanding and compassion, them hating them again, then back to sympathy, then.

Well, you get the idea, Also, it stretched credibility way too much, It was one thing to believe that Josephine could go from playing the part of loyalist Celia Reed to gather info at society gatherings, and later be Caroline, camp follower to the British for the same reason, but another to accept that she could turn into a coldhearted assassin, ready to plunge a dagger into Cornwallis! The same young woman who tended wounded British soldiers and cried over them I think NOT!

Nor do I think it believable that, in order to save her from being hanged, Damien kills her accuser in cold blood, despite the guy being crummy and deserving it.
And, naturally, every time events catch up with them, they escape to a HEA, which includes even more unbelievable ayearold drummer boy and an orphan baby girl, Enough is enough is too much,

This is the first Karyn Monk book I've read and will read another before I give a final opinion on this author, But my opinion of this book won't change, I recommend passing this one by, The reviews on this book are all over the place, but I think it is freakin'star awesome, The reviews on Amazon are better, The only problem to me is that it is outofprint and has to be bought used and no ebook edition, Oh, and the book cover is too cheesy for the actual story,

According to my aunt's ancestry research, my great, great, great, . . etc. grandfather was a British soldier in the U, S. Revolutionary War and my grandmother was a southern belle rebel, Although he was the enemy, they fell in love and he defected to the U, S. Thus creating my family!! Sounds romantic, so I read this book to fantasize, Aaaaand. . I was not disappointed.

This was not a mushy romance although it has some steamy love scenes in thend half, It was a story aboutpeople caughtup in a brutal war, Josephine , a southern farm girl who, like her fellow Patriots, would never stop fighting for her countrys freedom and Damien, a British officer who joined the war to punish himself because of his tortured past.
They are attracted to each other, but they are enemies, It would be treason for them to have a relationship, punishable by hanging,

Josephine was born and raised on a farm in South Carolina, The British Redcoats killed her father, her brother and burned her home, They ally with enemy Native American tribes, steal and kick her countrymen out of their homes so they can live in them, She HATES them all and desperately wants the war to end with the U, S. being free of Englands tyranny,

During June, Damien is alone, searching for food for his troops when he saves Josephine and her family from a tragic Indian attack, He is shot and would have surely died had Josephine not nursed him to health, When rebel soldiers come to her home to notify her of her brothers death, Damien is captured and Josephine and her family are threatened with treason for harboring the enemy.
To save her family, Josephine becomes a spy pretending to be an England Loyalist in British occupied Charleston, South Carolina and later in a Redcoat army camp,

Damien escapes and their paths cross, They save each other more than once, Both of their definitions of “enemy” become blurred as Damien learns to respect the patriots desire for freedom and Josephine becomes true friends with several redcoats, They fall in love but wont admit it to each other as they suffer the horrors of war, But when they finally overcome the trauma, the HEA is fabulous!!!!

The story was amazing and the characters were great, The battles and military leaders were historically accurate, The South Carolina setting was outstanding I have vacationed there many times and could picture it perfectly in my head, And it was fun fantasizing that the story was about my great, great, greatetc, grandparents.
She thought she was about to die when her family's farm came under attack, Instead, a handsome stranger rode to her rescue and took a bullet to save her, But when the bloodshed and terror were over, Josephine Armstrong discovered that the man she owed her life to was a British soldier, She could not betray Lt, Col. Damien Powellnot after what he'd done for her, But she would pay dearly for harboring the enemy, forced to prove her patriotism by becoming the rebels' most beautiful spy,

When he saw the lovely, young woman struggling with her captor, Damien didn't care which side of the bloody war she was on, He only knew that he had never seen such an incredible mixture of extraordinary beauty and raw courage in his life, Yet Damien couldn't know that one day this innocent farm girl was destined to betray him, She would become Charles Town's most irresistible spy, dazzling officers with her charms even as she stripped them of their strategic secrets, But when a twist of fate brings Josephine back into his life again, Damien will gamble everything on the chance that he can make this exquisite rebel surrender, . . if only in his arms, .
