Not even close to being a love novel, Full of suspense, history, and secrecy, A great read for the history lover, This was another one that I read ages ago and liked very much, I need to find out if I still have a copy tucked away somewhere, I decided to DNF this book, I just wasnt enjoying it and I felt like the story wasridiculous, And the main character was given too much credit and right about everything all the time.
I made it aboutthrough and just had to stop, Her blood racing with desire, her heart pounding with the fulfillment of a thousand dreams, beautiful New York debutante Elsie Cooper pledged her life and love to the handsome Count Alexander of Imperial Russia.
Now, across the ocean and the continents, a strange world reached out to her one scarcely changed since the Middle Ages, one where horror and majesty mingled under the influence of the evil monk Rasputin.


Plunged into a royal circle of madness and treachery, Elsie soon knew

that her love for Alexander had placed her very life in danger.

Our heroine, Elise, is a wealthy young woman of New York, in the beginning of theth century.
She sees a Russian count at a party, and becomes convinced they are in love, His sister keeps warning her away, but nothing will stand in the way of true love.


And then they go to Russia, to his family's haunted palace, in a Moscow torn amongst nobles, various revolutionaries and the Mad Monk's religious cult.
His family is kind. But Count Alex, who has already started wandering off to do 'important' secret things, is gone more and more.
Why Elsie is lucky to have found allies in an American journalist, Alex's cousin, the drunken artist Timofei, and even Alex's sister Olga.

Being part Russian myself, whose family left the mother country in the earlys, I was interested to learn what was happening in that time.
Now I want to read more,



This was a very! dramatic! book! Every other chapter or so ended with an exciting, dangerous scene!

If you dislike explicitly erotic scenes, this book is mostly safe, save the orgy scene.
Which, honestly, is more ick than erotic,

Elsie was very naïve, and very lucky to survive all the attacks, She was a bit of a nonentity, to be honest, an everywoman Gothic heroine with strong emotions.


In the end, I enjoyed reading this book, but won't need to read it again.
