do I think I think it's wonderful that Leni and Gary finished this book before Gary passed, I think I am honored to be part of this history and that these images are a look at how wonderful life was in Ann Arbor and I smile to know that I was there attending many of these shows and participating in the events of the day when Gary was creating some of his finest masterpieces.
It is also fabulous that Detroit is truly experiencing a renaissance downtown now with clubs, restaurants, boutiques, public art and and all the creative things that make life worth living.
Kick out the jams!! Detroit Rocks is a history book by Gary Grimshaw amp Leni Sinclair, Rather than being a book of written history, their storytelling comes from her photographs and his artwork, Both are powerful reminders of what was happening at that time, Leni's photos give a personal glimpse into the White Panther movement, the free John Sinclair campaign and other controversial topics at that time.
Although Grimshaw's artwork is specific to certain events, they are timeless, He had a unique style that could not be easily replicated,

I became more aware of Grimshawwhen my husband and I went to a exhibition featuring his works, As someone who had not experienced firsthand what they represented, it was impressive to see how each poster told a story.
Although this book highlights their artwork and photos, I think it would

have been better if the written word was also more prevalent.
Still, this is a good book for learning about that turbulent time in history,
Featuring the best of Gary Grimshaw's artwork and Leni Sinclair's photographs fromto, including many neverbefore or rarely seen photos by Leni, and much of Gary's artwork that hasn't been seen in the lastoryears.
