Snag The First 30 Days (The First 30 Days #1) Scripted By Lora Powell Print
story grabbed my attention from the beginning and made me want to keep reading, I was curious what would happen and wanted to finish the book, which is saying a lot when I'm in the middle of editing because my brain is usually tired.
I was looking for a zombie book that had action, and this did, so it fit the bill at the time.
If you you like zombie books with lots of action, this might be a good book for you.
Having said that, this book is in need of a good edit, While the typos were minimal, only a few, the writing felt clunky at times and could use some polishing to really make the story shine.
As of January,I no longer give books on Goodreads a star rating, Looking forward to the nextdays
I do love the zombie genre, I am a crazy walking dead fan, I there seems to be some inspiration from that show in some of the names in the book.
I am really looking forward to the nextdays to see who lives who dies and who we find on the way.
Rex dies we revolt!! I like that this is from a woman's point of view as well, we have a lot of views of an apocalypse from a mans eyes.
Fearing the living can be as bad as fearing the Dead
I have to say this is the best zombie book I read in a long time.
I read so many over the past couple weeks that have been so far off the wall they just made you laugh.
To follow Bri and Shawn through this apocalypse was well worth reading, Sad to see that they did lose some of the members that join their group but it was also nice to see that they made up with some new people and were able to make new friends.
Seems the some of the living are just as bad if not worse than the Dead, You would think they would all come together instead of trying to kill each other but I guess that's saying do or die says a lot during a zombie apocalypse.
I'd like to read more about Bri and Shawn's Adventure so I hope the next book is not too far off.
Good story
Well written with few editing errors, always a plus for me, This story is well worth reading for a true blue zombie fan, Keep up the good work, Lora and thank you for a few hours of apocalyptic fiction,
TFD is a good first effort by Lora Powell, Fiona Small's narration of the Audible version is excellent, The story follows the expected plot line for zompoc fiction but keeps it fresh by focusing on a few characters as they try to navigate the initial outbreak and survive afterward.
I really enjoyed that the main character, Bri, is not a super soldier survivalist before the outbreak, nor does she suddenly become one after as in so many similar works.
She is more likely to run and hide than to come up with some GI Jane attack when faced with danger.
This makes for some great and believable sequences where she is just trying to survive and we, the readers, are right there with her.
Over time, Bri finds others who try to band together and get someplace safe, A sub plot of an attraction develops between Bri and one of the other characters but I liked that it built slowly and both are more focused on staying alive than romance.
The zombies are great and unrelenting as they should be, Later on in the book there are some cartoon bad guys who seem to show up just to keep things exciting.
Luckily, the focus largely remains on Bri's POV during these encounters so there isn't a lot of expansion on why they seem to wander around the wasteland, doing evil deeds, with no worries about the zombies.
Also, there are some mixed metaphors in the text that another edit screening probably would have helped, Overall a fun and entertaining book, I liked it. Found the characters interesting, the action sufficient, and the story fairly realistic zombie novels can hardly be expected to be realistic can they.
Some things I didn't care for seems unlikely that the evil group would be so organized in the first month but maybe they had already been terrorizing the locals for years, the author chose, after no foul language for the majority of the book, to use the sword about midway through and close to the end drop the fbomb granted those were the onlybut she had basically proven you could write a good zombie story without bad language and then, unnecessarily, used bad language.
All in all, a decent read, Average story but well written still, So this definitely has lot of twists and turns!!! I love how the main character developed especially from the beginning.
I wish there would have been a little bit more development between her an another character, You eventually kinda get the picture, I really wish there was a second book too, There is bonus books but they arent the same, All in all it was a pretty crazy and intense book!!! I enjoyed this action packed book, it was filled with nerve wracking tension, making the fear and horror of the characters palpable.
I really liked Brie and Sean, two ordinary people who manage to not only survive but find surprising hidden depths, and in Brie's case, leadership skills.
I hope theres a follow up, I really want to know whats next for them, I received this book in exchange for my honest review, Not bad but seemed to be rushed, The author didn't take enough time for character development or to show the relationship dynamics between characters, I did like that the book started the apocalypse at the beginning, It drives me crazy when the book or movie reveals what is happening after the fact, oop oop, i really dug this book, because a zombies and bdumb people who improvise adapt and overcome and c BAT WIELDERS what is it with shawns/shauns and their bats
as far as zombie literature goes, i don't think this really offered any new or nuanced ideas,
but that's okay because it was a FUN read, and you really got in Bri's head and this kind of satisfied my biweekly need to consume some kind of apocalyptic end of the world kind of thing kinda like a zombie there in that regard Awesome main character in Bri! She was lucky AF at the start and completely useless, but man she really hardened up throughout the story.
There are no dull moments in this book, and while reading, . . especially with the whole coronavirus thing going on right now, I'm considering skipping this years flu vaccinations, YIKES! Where do I even start with this book! It was so good !!! Lora Powell you have a true talent for writing and I would like to thank you for keeping me awake fornights back to back.
This book has is going to be one of my favorites of! From the first chapter Lora Powell has a way of making you feel like you're in the story! The friendships in this book!! The fact that ZOMBIES are in every chapter and they stay the constant enemy unlike other movies, shows, and books.
She has a way of writing that made me look behind me a couple of times to make sure no zombies were there! I hope Lora Powell continues writing because she is an amazing writer! If you want to read a REALLY GOOD, SCARY, AWESOME zombie book please do yourself a favor and pick this book !!!!stars
Apocalypse and zombies are some of my favorite things, so when my friend suggested this book to me I got it and started reading ASAP.
I saw someone say that zombies dont translate to books I dont really share this opinion, but this is definitely really great zombie book interpretation.
There were some typos and things like that but this didnt really retract for me because the storyline was so great.
However the author had a reluctance to swear even though the characters swore at times it was weird to me, but didnt retract from the story either.
It had a mix of fast and slow zombies depending on how far along they are in decomposition which I liked because usually stories only have either fast or slow ones.
The progression of the storyline, characters, and their relationships seemed very natural, The descriptions of everything especially the zombies was good and I felt like I could see what was happening.
I liked all the characters and Bri was a great MC, My favorite was Maggie, though, I enjoyed reading their personal progressions through the apocalypse, I wish there would be another book, or an accompanying show/movie so I could have more, but there is a bonus chapter so that will have to do for now I guess.
