writer was one of the great occult, spiritual thinkers of his time, He looked at the soul and spirit in a different light, he has his own voice on the subject, He also speaks of todays situation, with leaders using fear to control its citizens!!! In the age of the internet and the proliferation of conspiracy theories, the idea that secret groups are seeking to gain control over humanity is no longer uncommon.
This was not the case in, however, when Rudolf Steiner spoke on this theme in these extraordinary lectures, His unique contribution to this controversial topic is no abstract theory, but arose from his specific research methodology involving the use of advanced forms of perception and cognition.
With the firsthand knowledge available to him, Steiner takes us behind the scenes of external events, revealing the dark world of secret, elitist brotherhoods working to control the masses through the forces of economics, technology and political assassinations.
These hidden groups, he explains, seek to gain power through the use of ritual magic and suggestion,

Among the many other topics tackled here, Steiner speaks on the geographical quality of the American continent and the forces that proceed from it the nature of the double doppelganger and the dangers of psychoanalysis the spiritual origin of electromagnetism the abuse of inoculations and vaccinations the meaning of Ireland for world development the confusion of angels with higher beings and the divinity and, above all, the need for clear insight into world events based on spiritual knowledge.
Never before available in English as a complete volume, the text of this book has been freshly translated for this edition.
I'm not a follower of Steiner who believes everything he wrote or said, nor do I dismiss him as a crackpot when he proposes difficult views.
He was an amazing person I respect, so I always consider what he writes, even if on first reading it sounds unbelievable.
Many spiritual realities seem that way when you're first introduced to them, This book is that way,
I neither wholeheartedly endorse nor reject out of hand what's written here, but am looking at it with an open mind.
I like being presented with different concepts of spirituality so I can consider them, To be honest, regarding some of Steiner's teachings, I wouldn't have even thought of them,
And I found a few treasures, The part which most impressed itself upon me isn't the highly dramatic Secret Brotherhood or Ahrimanic Double, It was the description of a shift in spiritual energies, spiritual realities, on the planet, in the's, He said, in the course of human spiritual evolution, we have come to that point where we are less 'sheltered', have responsibility for our own spiritual development and path.
This takes the form of being responsible for our self concept, our world views, our thoughts and imagery, We aren't spiritual children any, We don't sit at the feet of anyone, That's very exciting and also very sobering, Because this spiritual development has consequences, It has to, or it wouldn't be as profound and real as it needs to be, Those who grasp and embrace this new spiritual energy can take it very far indeed, Those who don't will be sunk by their very thoughts
As Steiner says, now the thoughts which human beings make for themselves serve to make human souls become transformed into these thoughts.
These thoughts are creative in the life of the soul because human beings are destined in the future to become what they regard themselves to be.
This is something that had to come about during the course of wisely guided world evolution so that the human being might really attain to a full and free consciousness of self.
One aspect is that the gods had to give the human being the possibility of becoming his own creation,
The human being has to become what he thinks himself to be, This is a truth that was destined to become known by human beings from the time in the nineteenth century onwards when those important changes came about.
Human beings must will to be what they can in reality be, they must be able to think about their being if they are to be that being in their soul.
Even now those who have died will be able to announce as a rightful mature truth: The soul is what it is able to think itself to be.
Yet since the time when it has become necessary to spread the truth The soul is what it is able to think itself to be, the spirits of darkness have managed to inspire into people what they wish to be represented as the truth.

If one's thought is that the human being is descended from the animals, to have the living thought about oneself I am descended from the animals, I have originated only out of the same forces that also form the animalsall this leads souls nowadays to resemble their own inner pictures.
It is important to know this! When a soul like this has laid aside its body it undergoes the misfortune of having to see itself as resembling its own inner pictures.
Those who believe while in the physical body that only animal forces have played a part in their development are building for themselves a consciousness after death with which they will have to perceive themselves as animals.

The book delves further into the whys and wherefores of this, But it shed new light for me on the Law of Attraction teaching that has become so dominant, Looking back it has been slowly growing since the time Steiner mentions think of Napoleon Hill, Thomas Troward, William Atkinson, etc.
Steiner's explanation gave further credence, and new depth and reasoning to this teaching,
This book is recommended to any spiritual person looking to expand their spiritual reality beyond the mostly mainstream, Steiner is a highly regarded clairvoyant of the last century and is well worth your time,
The downside of this book is that it was transcribed from speeches he made, and recorded verbatim, He wrote well, but spoke with a lot of redundancy he repeated things for emphasis, So there is a lot of repetition you have to deal with reading it, I understand why the transcribers didn't want to paraphrase, but it makes for tedious reading in places, even confusing reading, and I began to wish they tried to clean it up a little.
That is why I gave this book four instead of five,
As to the Ahrimanic Double, which creates such excitability, I don't quite see the same thing as Steiner, I have a different understanding of that shadowed entity, Times are different now, we have further spiritually evolved inyears, One of the primary ways is we are in charge of our personal spiritual destiny, what we allow into our space ultimately what we 'have to put up with'.
The old concept of something forced upon us in that manner is less and less relevant, Unless, of course, you believe in it and allow it, So we are back to the other, important message in this book We are able to be what we think ourselves to be.
A very great book. It may help to understand some your dreams I mean those when you meet your Double, double, toil and trouble It may help to understand old litterary work of poet.
A very insightfull book for a free soul, The Secret Brotherhoods's first lecture is a first rate and much needed exploration of the different methodologies employed in natural scientific and spiritual scientific thinking.
I found this really useful in my own spiritual scientific research work, And the translation of Rudolf Steiner's lectures here are very good and highly accessible, I would add, however, that Terry Boardman's excellent collection of lectures and introduction will be of value to those familiar with Rudolf Steiner's work.
For those new to it I'd recommend two of Steiner's own books: A Philosophy of Freedom Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path translated by Michael Lipson and my all time favourite How to Know Higher Worlds, translated by Christopher Bamford.
An interesting book, thought provoking, Glad to have this. Deep book with deep concepts, Only those familiar with the lectures and books of Dr, Steiner will appreciate the content of this book, which is really a compilation of lectures given over a short period of time, These are lectures “outside the box” so to speak of everyday reality, . With all that said. . this IS a Great Book!!! This book is helpful in empowering the mind to see not only corrupt political, social and economic agendas, but to unmask the hidden spiritual motives behind them.

Anybody with a critical mind can see that so many aspects of the world seem to be created by design to dumb us down and instill in us hopelessness.

However, what if the masters of the planet had in mind something than ecomomic and political power That the above forms of power were a material manifestation of a spiritual agenda to which only a small number of priestly initiates are privy

This book is a truly eye opening work which inspires the reader to go beyond normal intellectual analysis and reach down into the depths of the soul where the wholistic faculties of our being reside.
Those faculties which will enable us to use the evil sprits of opposition as a stimulus to awaken our consciousness rather than plunging further into the abyss.
You can always count on Rudolf Steiner to take any of your preconceived notions and set them on their ear, and Secret Brotherhoods might be the most amazing of all his books.
Steiner is no easy read, and even harder to explain, so I'll do my best with lots of quotes from the great man himself.

Secret Brotherhoods is a set of lectures given by Steiner in November of, and that's what's truly amazing.
I can't think of anyone today, who's even come close to the logical intelligence of Rudolf Steiner, and in so many important areas of life, actually, the most important areas of our collective lives.

To sum up how Steiner is important today, is that explains thethoughts that compete for our attention, or soul if you will.
One is the Ahrimanic side of our being, and one is the Luciferian side of our being, Now this might seem antiquated to our modern minds, but wait, on the Arhimanic side, you have a pure materialistic view, while the Luciferian side, you have an idealistic view of life.
The Ahrimanic side wants you to only see the material things in life, and to strive to towards them is the ideal, with money being the main issue.

The Luciferian side wants you to live in the mind, ignoring the material and striving only towards an unattainable utopia.
So how is the relevant today RepublicansAhrimanic, material side DemocratsLuciferian, communist ideals, and wait, there's a balance of both sides, a middle way, and that's the Christ consciousness.
We are here not to fight about which way is right, we're here to learn to balance these two sides as Jesus showed us, and that's through love.
This is a fight for the very soul of man, not just the vote for a certain party,

Hard to believe that Steiner gave these lectures nearly a hundred years ago, yet still they hold true and except that now, we're so polarized that to even mention that you're a moderate gets you labeled as 'wishy washy' or too stupid to make up your mind.
Well, the joke's on the name callers, because being in balance is what our task is as a human being.

Here's Steiner's explanation of the Arimaniccould this be where the word manic originate from beingwhich is what is talked about in Faust: "When a human being enters earthly existence through birth he gains on the one hand the possibility of giving means of existence to his soul through his physical body.
but on the other hand a person does not know his physical body at all well, What an extraordinary number of things go on in our body of which we know nothing, we arrive in this world with the garment of our organism without being able to to reach down into it with our soul to any great extent.
Instead shortly before we are born, not very long before we are born, there is also an opportunity for another spiritual being, apart from our soul, to take possession of our body, namely, of the subconscious part of our body.
This is a fact. Shortly before we are born another being indwells us in the terminology we use today, we call this an ahrimanic being.
It is just as much in us is our own soul,

"So we proceed through our life while having our soul and also a double who is far cleverer than we are, very intelligent, but with a mephistophelian intelligencesee politicians, bankers and lawyers for an example of this.
and in addition also an ahrimanic will, a very strong will, a will that this akin to the forces of nature than it is to our human will which is ruled by our heart and mind.
Those electric currents are the forces that are introduced into our being by the being I have just been describing.
They want to conquer the earth, so they need bodies, Having no bodies of their own they use much of human bodies as they can since the human soul cannot quite fill the human bodies.
"pages

And here's the catch, these beings can't stand death, so they depart when the body is about to expire.
They control our automatic bodily systems, which can explain why we lose those controls when we die, or are even threatened with deaththink of how ones loses control when they're severely frightened and you get the idea.

Anyway, that was just one page of a lecture, so if you want to jump into the very deep end of the metaphysical pool, Rudolf Steiner is your man.

As an aside, Stephanie Meyers, the author of the Twilight series, wrote a book called Host, that touches on this subject.
It's worth reading. This is an excellent translation from the German Rudolf Steiner Feb,,Mar.,was born in the small village of Kraljevec, Austria now in Croatia inand died in Dornach, Switzerland in, In university, he concentrated on mathematics, physics, and chemistry, Having written his thesis on philosophy, Steiner earned his doctorate and was later drawn into literary and scholarly circles and participated in the rich social and political life of Vienna.

During thes, Steiner worked for seven years in Weimar at the Goethe archive, where he edited Goethe's scientific works and collaborated in a complete edition of Schopenhauer's work.
Weimar was a center of European culture at the time, which allowed Steiner to meet many prominent artists and cultural figures.
InSteiner published his first important work, Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path: A Philosophy of Freedom, now published as one of the Classics in Anthroposophy.

When Steiner left Weimar, he went to Berlin where he edited an avant garde literary magazine, Again he involved himself in the rich, rapidly changing culture of a city that had become the focus of many radical groups and movements.
Steiner gave courses on history and natural science and offered practical training in public speaking, He refused to adhere to the particular ideology of any political group, which did not endear him to the many activists then in Berlin.

In, Steiner's life quickly began to change, His autobiography provides a personal glimpse of his inner struggles, which matured into an important turning point, In the August, issue of his magazine, Steiner published the article "Goethe's Secret Revelation" on the esoteric nature of Goethe's fairy tale, The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily.
Consequently, Steiner was invited to speak to a gathering of Theosophists, This was his first opportunity to act on a decision to speak openly and directly of his spiritual perception, which had quietly matured since childhood through inner development and discipline.
Steiner began to speak regularly to theosophical groups, which upset and confused many of his friends, The respectable, if often radical scholar, historian, scientist, writer, and philosopher began to emerge as an "occultist, " Steiner's decision to speak directly from his own spiritual research did not reflect any desire to become a spiritual teacher, feed curiosity, or to revive some ancient wisdom.
It arose from his perception of what is needed for our time,

Rudolf Steiner considered it his task to survey the spiritual realities at work within the realms of nature and throughout the universe.
He explored the inner nature of the human soul and spirit and their potential for further development he developed new methods of meditation he investigated the experiences of human souls before birth and after death he looked back into the spiritual history and evolution of humanity and Earth he made detailed studies of reincarnation and karma.
After several years, Rudolf Steiner became increasingly active in the arts, It is significant that he saw the arts as crucial for translating spiritual science into social and cultural innovation, Today we have seen what happens when natural science bypasses the human heart and translates knowledge into technology without grace, beauty, or compassion.

construction of the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland began, This extraordinary wooden building took shape gradually during the First World War, An international group of volunteers collaborated with local builders and artisans to shape the unique carved forms and structures designed by Steiner.
Steiner viewed architecture as a servant of human life, and he designed the Goetheanum to support the work of anthroposophy drama and eurythmy in particular.
The Goetheanum was burned to the ground on New Year's Eve,by an arsonist, Rudolf Steiner designed a second building, which was completed after his death, It is now the center for the Anthroposophical Society and its School of Spiritual Science,

After the end of World War I, Europe was in ruins and people were ready for new social forms.
Attempts to realize Steiner's ideal of a "threefold social order" as a political and social alternative was unsuccessful, Nevertheless, its conceptual basis is even relevant today, Steiner's social thinking can be understood only within the context of his view of history, In contrast to Marx, Steiner saw that history is shaped essentially by changes in human consciousness changes in which higher spiritual beings actively participate.

We can build a healthy social order only on the basis of insight into the material, soul, and spiritual needs of human beings.
Those needs are characterized by a powerful tension between the search for community and the experience of the human I, or true individuality.
Community, in the sense of material interdependence, is the essence of our world economy, Like independent thinking and free speech, the human I, or essential self, is the foundation of every creative endeavor and innovation, and crucial to the realization of human spirit in the arts and sciences.

Without spiritual freedom, culture withers and dies, Individuality and community are lifted beyond conflict only when they are recognized as a creative polarity rooted in basic human nature, not as contradictions.
Each aspect must find the appropriate social expression, We need forms that ensure freedom for all expressions of spiritual life and promote community in economic life, The health of this polarity, however, depends on a full recognition of the third human need and function the social relationships that relate to our sense of human rights.
Here again, Steiner emphasized the need to develop a distinct realm of social organization to support this sphere one inspired by the concern for equality that awakens as we recognize the spiritual essence of every human being.
This is the meaning and source of our right to freedom of spirit and to material sustenance,

These insights are the basis of Steiner's responses to the needs of today, and have inspired renewal in many areas of modern life.
Doctors, therapists, farmers, business people, academics, scientists, theologians, pastors, and teachers all approached him for ways to bring new life to their endeavors.
The Waldorf school movement originated with a school for the children of factory employees at the Waldorf Astoria cigarette factory.
Today, Waldorf schools are all over the world, There are homes, schools, and village communities for children and adults with special needs, Biodynamic agriculture began with a course of lectures requested by a group of farmers concerned about the destructive trend of "scientific" farming.
Steiner's work with doctors led to a medical movement that includes clinics, hospitals, and various forms of therapeutic work, As an art of movement, eurythmy also serves educational and therapeutic work,

Rudolf Steiner spoke very little of his life in personal terms, In his autobiography, however, he stated that, from his early childhood, he was fully conscious of the invisible reality within our everyday world.
He struggled inwardly for the first forty years of his life not to achieve spiritual experience but to unite his spiritual experiences with ordinary reality through the methods of natural science.
Steiner saw this scientific era, even in its most materialistic aspects, as an essential phase in the spiritual education of humanity.
Only by forgetting the spiritual world for a time and attending to the material world can new and essential faculties be kindled, especially the experience of true individual inner freedom.

During his thirties, Steiner awakened to an inner recognition of what he termed "the turning point in time" in human spiritual history.
That event was brought about by the incarnation of the Christ, Steiner recognized that the meaning of that turning point in time transcends all differences of religion, race, or nation and has consequences for all of humanity.
Rudolf Steiner was also led to recognize the new presence and activity of the Christ, It began in the twentieth century, not in the physical world, but in the etheric realm of the invisible realm of life forces of the Earth and humanity.
Steiner wanted to nurture a path of knowledge to meet today's deep and urgent needs, Those ideals, though imperfectly realized, may guide people to find a continuing inspiration in anthroposophy for their lives and work.
Rudolf Steiner left us the fruits of careful spiritual observation and perception or, as he preferred to call it, spiritual research, a vision that is free and thoroughly conscious of the integrity of thinking and understanding inherent in natural science.
