interesting. It proves the point the more things change, the more they stay the same, Delightful. This is going back on the shelf : To read each Christmas along with ' Christmas at Cold Comfort Farm, A Christmas Carol and The Little Christmas tree, This collection of stories , news paper, clippings, gift suggestions from yester years.
I LOVED THIS!!!! Most of the stories date from's to some from the First World War and come from various magazines and newspapers.
This book has earned a place on my holiday books to read each year at Christmas, Not only are there stories and poems but also recipes and details of wealthy families kitchens like the Astors and their holiday rituals, parties and charities they support.
What an absolutely delightful Christmas collection! I just wish there had been more fiction stories I think there were three instead of all the news clips and recipes.
They were interesting, but the stories were great, Love the idea of the book! The compilation of Short Stories, Newspaper articles, recipes, etc, If you want something to put you in the holiday spirit this is the read for you!! Fun to read!
An alternate title for this book could have read "What Christmas Was Like For The Wealthy In New York and Washington" as the the vast majority of stories, letters and articles were pulled from those cities.
I just couldn't get into it at all, maybe I read it too late in the Christmas season, There's nothing really that I disliked about it, but not much that stuck with me other than the cute letters written by kids to Santy Claus or the prices of Christmas foods in a DC market.
The book at least will continue to serve as a decoration at this time of the year, "A Christmas Miscellany" harkens back to the magic and wonder of Christmases past, Find here a delightful grabbag of Victorianera stories, news clippings, poems, recipes, gift suggestions, and so much more, Inside are recipes for plum cake and cream candies, instruction on how to give men cigars as presents, and letters to "Santy Claus.
