you GoodREADS. I won this book through one of their give aways, This book is an absolute vision literally, Being that I have seen glaciers in person and understand how difficult it is to capture this amazing, intense, life changing blue that is found within this book lets those of us on ground experience within the confines of our homes, and hopefully, while snuggled underneath a blanket.
The inspiration words/statements that accompany each image are spectacular though the images stand on their own, the only thing that the read is left wanting is more information as to what they are looking at when/why but maybe those questions aren't answered on purpose.
Perhaps the author/photographer wanted our minds to blank out for just a bit and enjoy the view, Which I thoroughly did. Klaus Kretzer you gave the world a gift with this book thank you, ing it for what it was: a coffee table book, An amazingly gorgeous coffee table book,
If the author didn't mention in his introduction that this was selfpublished, I wouldn't have known, It has a very professional look to it, with clean graphics and typography,
In addition to a foreword by the author, the back of the book includes quote attributions, information on the Icelandic glacial lagoon, and a two page spread for each of the four languages with information on what the ice is, its particular color, and how the the ice from particular pictures was formed.
I particularly enjoyed that last one, because I found myself wondering at the variations in the types of ice I was seeing,
The book is quadrilingual: English is set as the dominant language, but everything has translations into Icelandic, French, and German, I didn't find it bothersome, and for students of any of the other three languages such as me and German, it can be a fun game to try and decipher the foreign language before reading it in your native tongue.
The early photographs show their age from the midnineties: they're not bad, but they lack the sharpness of modern professional photos, Luckily, the latter half of the book makes up for this,
I won a copy of this book through Goodreads' First Reads program, I won this in a giveaway and I've been very pleased with it,
It's a book filled with beautiful photography that's showcased with lovely quotes,
At first I was a little disappointed at how little text there was, but as time's gone by I've found that doesn't bother me in the least.
From time to time I'll just pull the book out and stare wondrously at the photos just reveling in the beauty of nature,
I've pulled it out when guests come over saying "you need to see this!" And we get into wonderful discussions just marveling at the ice.
The book delivers, Whenever you look through it you can't help but reflect on ice, This has to be one of the most visually stunning books I have ever had the pleasure of reading, The quotes are amazing and the photography is breathtaking!! This was an amazing book! I won it off First Reads Goodreads giveaway and it was just WOW! The pictures are exquisite, the colors and shapes that were captured were just breathtaking.
It is a must have if you like photo books on landscapes, which I do! It is written beautifully in four languages, each page with an awe inspiring quotation.
I highly recommend it. Gorgeous Hardcover too! The pictures in this book are gorgeous! It makes a great coffee table book and the pictures are all dissimilar enough that you don't get tired of looking at ice for the whole time.
I won this book with the giveaways and got it on time for christmas !
What a wonderful gift :
Obviously, the pictures in the book are amazing and it really makes me wanna see real icebergs !
Also, I liked thepages at the end where there is facts explained about the formation of icebergs, and the different kind of features that are seen on them.
I think it could be a good idea to read that before looking at the pictures, so you can appreciate all the special features of the icebergs.
This is a pretty, coffeetable style book, The pictures are cool no pun intended and I love some of the quotes, For instance:
Such is the nature of one of the most beautiful things on earth: it will disappear
Karal Ann Marling
or:
I looked out at the icebergs.
They were so beautiful they made you afraid Barry Lopez
I love the photographs of the ice especially the majestic, towering blue ice, jutting out of the sea! Forgive me for describing it as: Straight up, Badass as well as devastatingly beautiful!
I won this book with giveaways, so that was a pleasant surprise!
First of all it is nice to go through a book with lots of pictures and just take in the sight of them.
I liked the fact that the text did not steal the attention away from the breathtaking pictures, as each picture is accompanied by a single quote, And lastly, it was nice to open my eyes to the facts about ice, I never thought about the fascinating intricacies of their appearance, so overall a really interesting and relaxing book,
Ice is it a display of divine power, a challenge to heroes or a chilly reflection of our own ego Does yet another glaciation threaten the earth, or will current glaciers disappear, along with today's civilisation Throughout history, people have watched this cold companion warily, trying to fit it into their view of the world.
This book relates the fascinating appearance and characteristics of ice to its intellectual and spiritual aspects, While the printed excerpts show human experiences of ice during the pastyears, the unusual photographs give a visual impression of the varied and colourful forms that ice can take.
