Anlatılar birbirinden çok kopuk, isimler, yerler bir türlü oturtamadım, Çok umutlu olmama rağmen tahminimdeki gibi çıkmadı kitap Guatemalalı yazar Miguel Angel Asturias'ın Muz Trilojisinin Kasırga'nın ardından gelen ikinci kitabı Yeşil Papa beni tahminimin ötesinde zorladı.
Sevmedim demeyeceğim ama nasıl demeli, yer yer kuru buldum kendisini, Asturias gibi büyülü gerçekçiliğin kurucu babalarından biri olan ve kaleminin gücünü çok iyi bildiğim bir yazardan daha zengin bir metin bekliyordum.


Yeşil Papa, Chicago'daki büyük muz tröstünün başkanı, "Yeşil Papa" lakaplı Geo Maker Thompson adlı bir karakterin öyküsü etrafında şekilleniyor.
Asturias'ın sevdiği konuların başında gelen bir kolonileştirme hikâyesi bu, Beyaz adamın yerel halkı parası ve "imkan"larıyla sömürgeleştirmesi, yerel halkın içinde yarattıkları çatışmalar, karşı koyanlar, teslim olanlar, . . Bildiğimiz izlekler ancak karakterler yer yer fazla karikatürize çizilmişti iyiler çok iyi, kötüler çok kötü, Amerikalılar sömürgeleştirme planlarında çok net, çok kararlı vs, Yani politik mesajını vermek için karakter zenginliğinden feragat ettiği yerler vardı yazarın ki buralar beni biraz uzaklaştırdı kitaptan,

Bir diktatör anlatısı olan çok sevdiğim kitabı "Sayın Başkan"da tutturduğu dengeyi burada tutturamadığını düşünüyorum naçizane.
Üçlemenin son kitabı "Gözleri Açık Gidenler"i de okuyacağım elbette ama bu biraz beklentimin altında kaldı, Bu arada Cemal Süreya çevirisi elbette lezizdi, onu da ekleyeyim,

" للأسف لم استطيع تكملتها لعدم جودة السرد والاملاء والترجمه پاپ سبز کتابی است که پیش از رمان چشم انتظار در خاک رفتگان توسط نویسنده ی گوآتمالایی میگل آنخل استوریاس نوشته شده که مضمون هر دو کتاب در مورد استثمار ضعفا توسط کمپانی های آمریکایی و انگلیسی در زمینه ی تولید محصول عمده ی کشورهای آمریکای مرکزی یعنی موز می باشد.
مرحوم زهرا کیا کتاب رو از ترجمه ی فرانسوی این کتاب ترجمه کردن و همونطور که در صفحه ی ابتدایی کتاب ذکر کردن به دلیل وجود تعبیرها استعاره ها و آداب و رسوم موجود در این کتاب خوانش و ترجمه ی این اثربرای فارسی زبانان دشوار است. اتفاقی که در روند داستان کاملا مشهود است.
کثرت شخصیت های کتاب مسئله ی دیگریست که خوانش اثر را با سختی بسیار همراه می سازد. در مقایسه با کتاب چشم انتظار در خاک رفتگان با ترجمه ی آقای حبیبی این کتاب در مرحله ی پایین تری قرار می گیرد و در بسیاری از بخش های کتاب با روایتی بسیار گنگ و کسل کننده همراه هستیم. رغم اهتمامي بتاريخ أمريكا الوسطى وأمريكا اللاتينية واستنزاف الغرب لثرواتهم إلا أنني لم أتفاعل مع الرواية فقد كتبت بأسلوب مفرط في السوريالية وترجمت بطريقة سيئة جدا Librode. پاپ سبز هم مانند اغلب آثار آستوریاس در مورد زندگی بومیان گواتمالایی سرخپوست یا دو رگه های سرخپوست اسپانیایی ست. آستوریاس که در خانواده ای مرفه به دنیا آمد و بزرگ شد و بخش عمده ای از زندگی اش را در سفرهای سفارتی پدرش در کشورهایی نظیر آرژانتین و فرانسه و گذراند به شدت خود را به بومیان کشورش مدیون می دانست. اولین برنده ی نوبل از آمریکای جنوبی رمان هایش مملو از تخیل و افسانه های جادویی بومیان است آنچه که بعدها به "واقع گرایی جادویی" خاص آمریکای لاتین مشهور شد. پاپ سبز یکی از قصه های دردناک حضور کمپانی های آمریکایی در جنوب است بخشی از تاریخ ادبی حضور استعمار در کشتزارهای قهوه و باغستان های موز و استثمار کارگران بومی توسط انحصار کمپانی های آمریکایی. پاپ سبز را خانم زهرا خانلری کیا به فارسی برگردانده و درتوسط انتشارات خوارزمی منتشر شده است. Dieses Buch ist mehr politischer Statement als Roman, Es werden antikapitalistische Reden geschwungen und der Standpunkt des Autors wird sehr schnell sehr deutlich die USA sind schlecht und sollten sich aus den Angelegenheiten Guatemalas heraushalten, ihr Einfluss breitet sich wie eine Krankheit aus und verseucht die Gedanken der Einheimischen.
Darüber hinaus gibt es eine schwerfällige Handlung und Protagonisten, die nur dazu da sind, die Botschaft zu transportieren, Charaktertiefe oder gar entwicklung wäre dabei nur hinderlich,

Chos, chos, moyón con, لا أنصح بها فلم أكملها Miguel Ángel Asturias es sin lugar a dudas uno de los mejores narradores y poetas latinoamericanos, su obra es una bisagra entre las tradiciones ancestrales de su tierra y el drama geopolítico comercial de la gente de su Guatemala pisoteada, o casi siempre pisoteada por dictadores, gobernantes, militares, yankees, accionistas y mercaderes.
Esta obra forma parte de la “Trilogía Bananera” conformada por “Viento Fuerte”, el “Papa Verde”y “Los ojos de los enterradosque cuentan los embustes y estrategias empleadas por los inversionistas norteamericanos para despojar tierras, incendiar ranchos, cercar propiedades, contratar mano de obra barata, administrar el ferrocarril y los puertos, y, crear un emporio bananero más poderoso que las naciones y los estados, tan arraigado en el dinero como los indígenas en la magia de su exuberante naturaleza.


“El Papa Verde” nos cuenta la historia de Geo Maker Thompson un audaz pirata oriundo de Chicago que cambió su oficio de bucanero para asentarse en el interior del país centroamericano y construir su empresa productora y exportadora de banano.
A través de sobornos, abusos y vejaciones, consolida su poder al pactar con abogados, senadores y uniformados la idea del “progreso” seduce a unos pocos ingenuos, mientras los verdes dólares convencen a la mayoría.

Geo Maker Thompson conoce a Doña Flora, arpía, calculadora y truhan que no duda en ir contra sus vecinos para beneficiarse de los negocios gringos, y a su hija Mayarí, la antítesis de su madre, soñadora, empática, unida a su raza de jaguar.
Enamorado de la hija, el bananero acaba casándose con la Doña, después de que Mayarí, ataviada en su vestido de novia, se arroja al río Motagua en nupcias asombrosas y sobrecogedoras.
Y es que la muerte de Mayarí, aconsejada por Chipo Chipó la voluntad del pueblo, es uno de los mejores ejemplos de “Realismo Mágico”: la anciana presencia de los bosques se cubre con su cabello de raíces y se vuelve joven, radiante y hermosa para peinar y arreglar a la novia.

La segunda parte del libro se enlaza con el final de “Viento Fuerte” y nos lleva a conocer las peripecias de los herederos de Leaster Mead, los rumores de la guerra y el conflicto entre dos ramas de accionistas de la United Fruit Company: la “Frutamiel” y la “Tropical Platanera”.
La vida transcurrió ineludible, el Papa Verde en el exilio y cuidando de su nieto, juega su último as bajo la manga para convertirse en el presidente de la compañía: “Green Pop”, “Bananas King”.
Los herederos son aldeano enriquecidos después de un trágico huracán que se cobró la vida de sus benefactores el matrimonio Mead, Altruistas en apariencia que, con acciones de respaldo a las huelgas de trabajadores, ayuda social a los pobres y el legado de su fortuna a los desposeídos en caso de muerte accidental, distraían la atención del público de su verdadera condición: accionistas de la “Tropicaltanera”.

Excelente continuación, quizá superior a Viento fuerte, Asturias en su mejor momento narrativo, Segundo tomo de la Trilogía bananera, Colección Losada NDEN. Ok I really hated this book, it was sooooo boring that I didn't wanted to continue reading it,

I think thatpages were a lot for writing a stupid story about a greedy american sailor named Geo Maker Thompson who lives in Guatemala and then falls in love with a young native named Mayari but she suddenly dissapears as soon as she discovers that Geo Maker Thompson has plans for taking the lands of her fellow indians and put them away for the construction of a fabric named tropical platanera dedicated to the harvesting and distribution of fng bananas.


Of course Geo Maker Thompson is named the green pope after that, but the repetitiveness in the arguments made the story far to hideous to continue its reading, I'm so happy that I decided to put this down although I gave him a lot of chances to turn me on.
This book tells the story of a greedy American and his attempt to gain power and wealth by deceiving innocent natives into selling him their land,

George Maker Thompson

had been a pirate in the Caribbean until he dedided that he'd make more money on the land,

He meets Jinger Kind, a businessman from New Orleans, They discuss the local people who they consider backward, Their idea is that by taking the land from the natives and building roads, they would be bringing progress in return for creating wealth for themselves,

Thompson meets and falls in love with a young native named Mayaris,

Tompson, Mr. Kind, Mayaris' mother, Dona Flora and a person called The Commander, set about buying the land from the natives, They don't mind using bullying tatics and state that if gold bullets money doesn't work, there's always lead,

Things go smoothly until Mayaris realizes that Thompson is taking advantage of her people, She dresses in a wedding gown and throws herself into a river to drown herself in protest, Dona doesn't seem too upset with this and later marries Tompson herself,

Thompson represents the United States and greedy corporations who are taking advantage of the uneducated natives in this novel, It has been translated from Spanish but there didn't seem to be any character development and read more like a lengthy journal than as a novel, .
