amazing sequel, it was so freaking good, Such a fun series. Ember, bookin the Faylinn series, is, at its worst, an imaginative and engaging dip into the YA fantasy pool and, at its best, a fantastic and refreshing new work of fiction.
Hayes takes the reader on a ride with main character Calliope, parthuman/partfairy, as she struggles with her new role as Queen of Faylinn.
Stepping into a new world, Calliope is faced with matters of state, rogue uprisings, unsuitable suitors, and tough decisions as she works to lead Faylinn in ways consistent with both her heart and tradition.
Ember is very character driven, the leads exhibiting convincing emotions and reactions that will have anyone who's ever loved or stood toetotoe with injustice nodding their heads in understanding.
The book is a simple readno deep psychological plot or overly eloquent plunge into verbosityyet it maintains an ability to weave a story that entrances the reader and makes him or her step into the characters and consider the possibilities.
Hayes's first foray into the writing realm, Kaleidoscope,
introduced us to a world of fairies and left us wanting just a little bit more.
Ember, however, ends on a definite cliffhanger that will make the reader itch for the next installment, It is, in this reviewer's opinion, an example of how a writer can grow in her abilities from book to book and how that writer can grow a series from an entertaining read into an engaging world of possibilities.
On the petty side of things, there are several editing errors word omissions, incorrect phrases, incorrect punctuation, etc, but most of them are easily overlooked for those just wanting to experience the story and the world of Faylinn, If those kinds of things bother you, I am sure the printed hard copy of the book due out sometime inwill deliver a much more correct grammatical experience for you.
Regardless of where you stand on grammatical issues, Ember is a lovely read that will open your mind to the "what ifs" we have all imagined.
So I finished book two and I am cringing!! But in a good way, Many questions were answered for me while reading, And I am so glad Calliope is getting along just fine until towards the end, ugh!!!! Just how How I am jumping into book three as soon as I am done with my review.
The storyline is just getting better and better, The second in the Faylinn series, My heart caught in my throat a number of times! I always feel as though the second book is usually the most droll, This was not the case! Somehow Ember was better than Kaleidoscope!! I am off to read the third and final installment in this amazing series!! Loved this series.
I really connected with the characters and unlike a lot of other trilogies, I felt the story got better and better as the series went on.
My least favorite of the series was book, Ember, but all three were good, This series has it all: fantasy, romance, action, magic, betrayal, loyalty, . .
I got the first book in the series as a free Amazon Kindle book and it sat on my Kindle for a long time.
I can't believe it took me so long to read this one! Left me in suspense, Riveting. Ready for bookand can hardly wait,
Mindy is a darling girl and I was delighted to meet her at our church book review night,
She has other genera's that she writes but they are sweet and family friendly books,
So good couldn't put it down
Loved it I laughed I cried I got angry soooo angry, . . of course I'm pregnant so that might have something to do with the emotions, . . but for real super good, . but they leave it so you have to read the next one Great That was an exciting heartbreaking ending! I love Kai so much.
Not sure I like this new take over twist in the story, Cant we all just get along without a creepy Gillian king in the way Excited to read more about Calliope, and Kai, and Declan in book.
One decision changed her life forever, One choice could seal her fate for eternity,
By accepting her destiny, Calliope entered the enchanting world of Faylinn, She wasnt prepared for all the compromises she would be forced to make, After being thrown into her duties as queen, she must pick her battles wisely or risk loosing the respect of her kingdom,
With Kai and Declan by her side her confidence rises, but they cant protect her from everything, When Faylinn is threatened Calliope is forced to face an even greater reality than she was prepared for, Haunted by the truthfulness of Favners last words, she realizes she has no idea what shes gotten herself into,
Can Calliope be able to hold true to Faylinns beliefs while still following her heart, or will she be forced to sacrifice a part of herself to save her kingdom Ahh Mindy Hayes, I love this girl.
She has taken the fairy scene and given it back some life, I had gotten so sick of the fairy stories out there that I nearly gave up on them, I wont name names because that is not my personality but DANG I am so glad that I came across Kaleidoscope, It will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first real indie book! I read the first book in one car ride and completely neglected my husband the whole time.
Ember is a strong second book in the trilogy, Mindy has such whimsical beautiful story telling capabilities that you are pulled into Faylinn the minute you begin the book, Calliope has a lot of adjusting to do upon accepting her position as queen, Her coronation nearly brought me to tears, the imagery was just so beautiful, Of course, being queen isnt all its cracked up to be! Calliope struggles with the her new duties and uncovers some old rules about being queen that does not make her or me happy.
I just want a happy ending with Kai gosh dang it!
I would recommend this to all YA fiction readers or for anyone looking to discover an enchanting new world.
This series is on the top of my list for myreads!
Mindy Hayes has become one of my favorite authors of.
She just released a more contemporary book and I will be starting that soon! There is a lot to love about this book and the world of Faylinn but its heart is really these amazing and dynamic characters.
I loved watching Calliope learn about this whole new world and her place in it, I especially loved the secondary characters though, Calliope's parents and little Violet completely stole the show for me, Fair warning: this one ends on one hell of cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens next! I shifted my gaze to the tree and saw Kai's eyes were not on them but one me.
His eyes didn't shy away, and neither did mine, I wished I could read his thoughts to know what was running through his mind when he looked at me like that, There wasn't any way to really describe it, It wasn't any one emotion I could pin point, It was everything all at once, drowning me in an ocean of sensations of which I never wanted to let go,
Callie knew becoming queen was her destiny and it wouldn't be easy, But with talk of bonding to royalty and now death threats, well, these were things she did not sign up for,
My love for Callie and Kai grew to new heights in EMBER, Their interactions and banter was a lot of what I loved about them, They kept it fun but it was meaningful to the core, And my heart broke each and every time they realized that nothing could ever come from their feelings for one another, Unless Callie was able to change the laws that have been in place for thousands of years and face the wrath of those in her kingdom that still believe it is wrong to bond outside their own, it was fruitless to hope.
Such a quandary.
When reading this book there was always this lurking and nudging that something is about to happen and it kept me on edge the entire time.
It is amazing how Hayes pulls you in, keeps you teetering on what may come, and then smacks you with a load of WOW! And boy was it a WOW! It got me crazy excited to read LUMINARY.
I just need to hurry and read some books so I can concentrate solely on it,
So many what ifsso much left up in the air, . . I am so loving this series,Stars!!
The Faylinn series just keeps getting better and better, Mindy Hayes is back with more fantasy and beauty than you could possible fit on a page but there it is, The images she creates with her words are just breath taking and the action, romance and drama are pumped up to the max, I was so pleased that there were no distractions today because I just sat down and started reading and didnt put it down until I was on the edge of my seat, in awe of the crazy cliffhanger.
Once again, the prologue opens up with more mystery that of course draws the reader in as Callie makes the journey to Faylinn and begins her new life as Queen.
From there, theres never a dull page, Festivals, negotiations, Kai being his usual bipolar/adorable self, drama, betrayal, late night rendezvous and of course magic and mishappenings, I swear sometimes it was like reading Fae Princess Diaries, So much fun but with a bit of a darker, magical twist with secrets and lies, None of the backstory filler crap, Just boom. Plot! Boom. Characters! And lots of flowers did I mention I loved the imagery,
The only thing I loved more than the imagery was Kai, I am admitting here and now that Ive fallen head over heels, impossibly in love with that faery and Im never going back, I honestly thought about making a video review because no words can truly describe the things this book is making me feel and the sounds that come out of my mouth were inhuman.
Especially in the last few chapters when we reached this awesome, dramatic moment and then it all went toa very dark and crappy, chaotic and emotionally charged place.
I nearly fell off my chair from sitting so far off the edge just turning page after page wondering what Mindy Hayes was going to do to her characters next.
A fantastic read for any lover of YA fantasy, Just an overall engaging, and entrancing story,
.
