try and eat whole foods and this book is very informative on them, I wish there were more pictures in it so I didn't have to look up some of the ones I was not familiar with on the internet I thought I knew a lot about beans, grains, etc and found a lot of ones that I had never heard of Great reference book.
I received a copy from net galley for review, I almost wish I had a hard copy of it so I could flip through it, This reference book is packed with information on goodforyou food, It has sections on:

Fruits and veggies
Grains
Pasta
Beans and legumes
Nuts and seeds
Meat/poultry
Seafood
Dairy/eggs
Oils
Seasonings
Sweeteners

If you're looking to eat healthier, this book will tell you what to do with the food you find at the health food store and have no idea what it is.
No recipes are given, but ideas are, and with the internet at my fingertips, I found that I was making congee within a few minutes of reading about it in this book.

Cooking times and methods are given for the grains and beans, which I know I will find helpful in the future,

I especially enjoyed reading about the obscure sorts of grains described in this book, such as Job's tears and teff, Rest assured that there is something here for the seasoned health foodie as well as the beginner,

I would definitely recommend this book as a reference to keep around the kitchen, especially if you're an adventurous cook who likes to try out new, healthy foods.
I also enjoyed reading it mostly cover to cover: my brain is exploding with interesting facts about food now, and I'm more motivated to keep my diet healthy about reading the many benefits of so many different, healthy foods.

I received a copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads program, This is a book with a lot of information and resources, It's a book that I will reference back to periodically as I'm looking for new vegetables, grains, herbs, etc, I love how it goes into to detail on how a vegetable should look, the various ways you can cook grains from slowcooker to baking, glutenfree grain options, sprouted breads, pastas, meat descriptions, seafood types amp methods used to acquire, mercury levels of various seafood, Omegalevels in various seafoods, a variety of milk options and so much more to learn from this book, which is truly a guide you'll hang on to and be able to refer to over and over again in life.

I received this ARC book from NetGalley for my honest opinion, Very informative book on grains, flours, fruits, veggies and more, It provides ways to cook, store, and prepare everything in the book, This book has information on pretty much every type of food you can think of and I will defiantly be using it to try new foods and learn more about them! good reference Written by one of the founding members of the Whole Foods stores, this book is a fantastic resource for all who are interested in eating organically, vegetarian, or glutenfree.
It is both informational and practical as Wittenberg explains unusual grains, oils, vegetables, and more, Some will be types of food you will likely have never heard of, but just might be interested in trying, This is not a cookbook, but included are practical tips for seasoning and preparation, Will you try Bhutanese red rice or black forbidden rice Spelt or triticale flour Adzuki or anasazi beans Familiar foods are also included, of course.
Don't miss this outstanding guide to the world of healthy foods, GD

Click here to place a hold on sitelink The Essential Good Food Guide, This The Essential Good Food Guide's publicity material states that this is "the definitive guide to buying, storing and enjoying whole foods" and the usual reaction of a reviewer is to think "yeah, yeah! publishers always find some fine adjective or two to promote their title.
" This time no hyperbole is necessary, This is really information central, a total overload of information,

This is a book that seems to be cleverly aimed at both the person who is sold on the idea of whole food eating and who wants to really drill down with their knowledge to be an even more informed consumer as well as for the confused newbie or whole food curious.
The sheer amount of information is intimidating yet the The Essential Good Food Guide's design and the author's writing style gently guides you like a top sommelier suggesting a particularly fine vintage to go with your sea bass.

Everything is split into key chapters according to food type, such as fruits amp vegetables, seafood and meat amp poultry, Even things like culinary oils and seasonings get their own chapters so nothing is left behind, As well as an introduction and overview of foodstuffs and their various varieties there is information such as preparation advice, typical cooking times, nutritional information, labelling and marketing concerns and a look at common misconceptions.
Even if you think you know everything there is to know about, say, rice, be prepared to think again as this book will give your brain a run for its money.

The book is clearly written for a U, S. audience so a slight amount of information might not be relevant, such as prime availability seasons or possibly some names, although in this everglobalised world these things are less of a problem.
Certainly the sheer amount of quality information still makes this book a great resource for food lovers and even if only a couple of percent of the book "went to waste" that is insignificant when you consider the overall picture.

The end of the book gives even more further reading suggestions, should you still have a thirst for more knowledge! The index should be fairly detailed if it follows the The Essential Good Food Guide's character and six pages have been assigned for it, but this prelaunch review copy did not include an index so no opinion can be given.
The price of this book might be an issue for some wavering possible readers, but invariably the price will be less through certain online bookstores after launch and, in any case, you are getting a very detailed reference work that might be a fairly constant companion in your future culinary journeys.
One has seen a lot worse, at a much higher price, so there is a feeling you are going to get your money's worth, As long as you want and need this information, this will be a good book to consider,

Incredibly informative but overwhelming at times, The author does a great job of breaking each food type down and giving ways to eat, buy, cook, and store food, The book is definitely accessible, but with so much information it can be hard to figure out what to do next time one goes grocery shopping.
