short read. Some parts in the book didn't make sense to me, . . a I thought only the heir was titled, I don't think I've ever read a book that the second son had a title but what do I know.
. . and b how can the dower house be sold Isnt it usually on property that can't be sold other than those question a good short read DNFd at.
I should probably finish it because its a novella and Im almost done, but Im making it a point of finishing something unless I actually want to know the end.
This book isnt something I care about, Gareth is obsessed with another woman, for starters, and everything is dull, This is my first Adrienne Basso book, unluckily a novella, a form I find difficult to love as rarely does an author write succinctly enough with adequate plot and character development to make reading it a rewarding experience.
Ultimate Lover fails on most counts,
Amelia, three year widowed dowager Countess needs to get out from under her money grubbing brother in law's thumb and the threat of marriage to a man she finds objectionable.
Gareth, Viscount Longley is a second son content to be a rake, Till he meets Amelia at a house party and besides being attracted to her physically, is attracted to her personality and wants her as a friend.
Amelia meanwhile is terribly attracted to Gareth but can't take up the relationship seriously as she doesn't want to remarry anybody scarred by her previous bad marriage and in fact needs to follow her friends advice and create a scandal to make her brother in law back off and her intended cry off.
She chooses to be spectacularly scandalous by sneaking into Gareth's room and sensuous torrid scenes follow, And publicly declares it to defend Gareth's honour in another matter, Hurt and feeling used, the rake retreats, She goes away to her friend's place, He reappears, miraculously reformed and serious about making a go of it with Amelia, and so the HEA.
Seriously pedestrian plot, a few patches of good writing, ridiculous set up and unbelievable character transformation, Not a book I'd recommend to start this author with, I'll have to try another title by her relying on GR ratings,
There really isn't anything particularly notable or rememberable about The Utimate lover but I liked all the characters and it was a nice short fun read.
Someone looking for a light carefree read should be happy with this book, Soso. Nice enough story but badly written with awful grammar in places, Very little character development, and it ended with stunning abruptness, "A daring lady sets out to lose her maidenhood to the ton's most dangerous roguebut she might find love where she least expects it.
. . "
To wreck her domineering brotherinlaw's scheme to marry her off, spirited widow Lady Amelia Wheatley must irreparably ruin her reputation, And what better way than to gamble that she can seduce Gareth Travers, the wild young Viscount of Longley But Amelia never bargained that their one night of passion would make Gareth determined to win her forever.
