Obtain Stormy Times Conceived By Beate Boeker Document
read this as part of the Sweet Christmas Kisses anthology, The idea for the story was good and it had potential but it didn't work for me, at first the heroine's inner monologues were funny, but after a while all the talking to herself about was a little annoying.
There were some slow parts that made me skip pages, as I wanted to get to the action, I didn't like all the drama at the end and how quickly it was resolved,
I was hoping for more, It had some nice bits, but they weren't enough to hook me I really liked this book, It had action, adventure, sad and happy, Another great book from the Sweet Christmas Kisses collection, Well worth the read. A short love story between a lady veterinarian and a singer song writer, It deals with trust and memories of being betrayed, It's a small town, and the gossip is spread, which hurts both of the main characters, and almost splits them up, It's an O. K. story. DO NOT JUDGE THIS BOOK BY ITS COVER, It's a well written short novel, It has a similar set up as Pride and Prejudice, Guy misunderstood girl, girl thought guy was rude, Then they slowly resolved their own stubborn ideas about each other and fell in love, I love that the story doesn't progress too fast, . like it wasn't like BAM I HATE HIM NOW BUT I SECRETLY LOVE HIM because that just makes no sense, It takes time for a person to change their misguided preconceptions/first impressions about other people, which this book took the time and pages to describe the slow change that emerges between the main characters.
And the dog helps, a cute little puppy that binds two people together, doesn't that always work Anyway, this is a cute warm christmas love story and a wellwritten one.
There wasn't a moment where I was like, this is way to cliche, . There are little puzzles in the story which keeps you guessing too, like who's the bad guy spreading rumors, . etc. Although this begins with a very unlikely scene about driving in winter roads, it provides a reason for the two main characters to meet.
The cover for this book really doesn't match the story at all, It was a good read but after the drama everything hot wrapped up in a couple of pages, I wanted a more satisfying ending, An absolutely adorable story about a smalltown veterinarian, a bigtime musician, and the blizzard and abandoned pup that bring them together, After her Jeep runs off the road during a major snowstorm, Joanna seeks shelter in a nearby house, but the home's resident is less than thrilled with her appearance and makes it known she isn't welcome.
Conran has his reasons for seeming rude to this unexpected visitor, Trying to heal after the tragic death of a friend, he's been too long in the public eye to take people at face value.
But Jo's honesty and a new fourlegged friend might melt his icy heart, This books cover doesnt do it complete justice, There is light hearted humour, a feel good story and a puppy that would appeal to anyone but theres also romance, drama and a mystery.
The most memorable aspect of the book for me was the characters, It took me a few pages to get into the story but the characters caught my attention immediately, I was intrigued by the enigmatic Conran and I liked Joanna and I kept reading to find out what happened to them.
Some of the secondary characters also made an impression on me, Joannas secretary would exasperate anyone and I wanted to adopt her father, Secondary characters such as these added to the comedy and warmth of the story,
As I read I had a strong sense of the isolated setting and the influence of the small community on the characters.
The author used both to good effect to create atmosphere and set up the events in the story, She also deftly puts a completely unexpected twist in Joannas hunt for the person who is trying to destroy her veterinary practice which changes the tone of this plot thread its nicely done and in keeping with the feel of the whole book.
English isnt the authors first language and there is the odd word or phrase that betrays this but I didnt find that it distracted me from the story.
My overall impression when I finished the last page was that I had spent a satisfying few hours with a couple I liked and rooted for.
This book is just the thing, especially on a winters night, for readers who enjoy upbeat romances,
.stars. A sweet, funny romance that is ideal reading for a lazy afternoon, The characters are fun and the snowy setting adds to the romance, A sweet little novella for the holidays, It started out interesting, then got lost with some farfetched plotting, A pleasant little Christmas romance with a cute dog bringing the couple together This is thest book I read by Beate Boeker.
The beginning of this story had may attention, After Joanna got to the house that's when this stopped interesting me, The story line amp characters didn't connect for me, It was a nice little story, though I agree the end was pretty abrupt, All along I had fun because I recently crafted a story line where heroine meets creepy guy, who turns out to be a famous writer, and there is a harassing other guy in the picture too : For a shortish story it was incredibly engaging and entertaining.
Enjoyed every word. Joanna is going through a hard time: Half a year ago, her beloved dog died, and two months later, she separated from her fiancé because he cheated on her.
Now she works like a demon in her job as a Vet to forget her feelings, Returning from a difficult foaling in the middle of a late November night on Long Island, she gets stuck in an early blizzard.
With her last ounce of strength, she manages to reach a house, but the man who gives her shelter for the night treats her like an unwelcome disease.
As she has no choice, she adapts to his rough manners by being impolite herself, Sparks fly, and the night ends with a rescued puppy and a power failure, but this is only the beginning of her troubles.
