Carter has some secrets up his sleeve as well and when you find out what they are all you can say is OMG or did that really just happen and try to put the pieces together from what you have already read to see if it all clicks.
Carter is one patient man and tells Alissa he will wait for her, He doesnt want anyone but her, They have their ups and downs like pretty much every couple at one point or another which makes them more believable characters and i love that about this book,

Finally free to make her own choices Alissa goes away to collage to start a new life without her parents, After completing under grad school, Her goal is to go to grad school to become a lawyer, and defend kids who have to go through the same things she did, After living through her past she is determined to never depend on anyone for anything again, This means she is willing to do anything to make the money for collage, While waiting for an acceptance letter and stalking her mail box nonstop Alissa meets Carter, The instant attraction is just the complication she doesn't need right now, She has secrets that she wants no one to ever know about her, How will she ever have a relationship with Carter and keep her secrets Does Carter have his own secrets he's keeping

This is a great story with a wonderful message.
It shows that if you work hard enough anyone can change there path in life, Alissa struggles to get away from past, Through her struggles she grows stronger and learns to trust again, I really liked this story I bought the print copy at a signing, The errors in the book really took away from the story, I will be reading other books by this author because she really is a good story teller, I didn't like it. I'm always feeling weird when I don't like a book,
I did like the first book with Madison and Sawyer, I liked the premise of this book and was really looking forward to it but I just didn't like Carter, He was too possessive and mean, I mean I love books with overbearing and possessive Significant others, but Carter was too much, I just couldn't like it,

Alissa's dreams for a better future for kids like her wasn't just admirable, it was downright amazing, She didn't let the decision her parents made for her years ago ruin her, Instead, she stood up and stood tall, determined she would not let another child go through the kind of hell she'd endured, and set out to make that goal happen.
Her approach was different than some would expect, but who am I to judge Not all grocery clerks are upstanding citizens, just like not all strippers are sluts and/or addicts.


I can't say her plans went awry when she met Carter, He was definitely an unforeseen complication, but he wasn't a deterrent from her plans, If anything, he was a huge help, even when things went south and his lies were brought to light, He kept her focused, encouraged her in many ways to pursue her dreams regardless, made things right between them by giving up his dreams for hers, But trusting him was hard for Alissa and I didn't blame her, Between his dishonesty and lying by omission, I wondered how long she'd stay with him, if staying him was even worth it,

In his case, actions definitely spoke louder than words, Carter proved over and over again how much he loved Alissa, For as much as he messed up, for as often as he spoke out of turn or didn't speak at all, he never once used his love for her as a means to get her to stay with him.
If she needed a reason to stay, that was it, He would never use his feelings for her as a way of getting what he wanted, He would cherish what they had, made sure she knew and felt and understood his love for her would always be real,

The characters aren't perfect, Both Alissa and Carter make mistakes, Both say and think things that aren't warranted, But those faults along with the emotions these characters evoke are why I love this story, As a reader, I need to connect with the characters I read about even if I've never walked a day in their shoes,

This isn't an angstfilled or guiltriddled or depressing story, It isn't just about friendship and love and dreams of a happily ever after, At its core, it's about finding, loving, and having that one person in your life who gives you the strength to move forward, the determination to make something work, and the drive to make it all happen.

Received from Book Enthusiast Promotions for an honest review I absolutely loved this story!! Aimie Grey wrote such a refreshing story that was not filled with the typical cliches that you usually find in most romance reads.
Alissa Ross is the daughter of addicts, having had a normal childhood, until one day she didn't due to her parents' addiction, She is determined to want more from her life, even working a job that she is not particularly fond of, but she is adamant about paying for her law school tuition and having no bills to set her back.
Carter Smith moves into her apartment building and a friendship develops, He is hot!!!! Carter wants more from the beginning, but Alissa is focused on her goals, and puts her own happiness second, When she decides to take a chance at a relationship this is when things start to get a bit bumpy, takes a few turns, and a course of events take place.
Who exactly is Carter is he for real Can someone like Alissa truly learn to trust and find happiness Does Alissa follow her dream, or does she have a new one Do they get their HEA There were some great supporting characters as well, and I enjoyed how they played into the story.
Great job, Aimie! This was astar read for me, I loved this story!!!!
Love Alissas story, Love the feistiness and her determination, She has risen above the circumstances of her past to become a amazing woman, Carter is patient, sweet kind and awesome, He is perfect for Alissa and this story of theirs is wonderful to read, Alissas parents are addicts adn she doesnt wish to go down the same road as them so she goes to work in less than ideal conditions and scrimps and saves so she can go to law school.
Along the way her aparmtment complex got a new sexy sweet tenant named Carter, He had instant attraction. Unfortunately Alissa is goal focused so she doesnt want more than friendship from Carter, She is attracted to the funny sweet guy but her happiness is set aside so she can acheive her goal of going to school, Friendship begins between the two and it is awesome to see the build of trust and the learning of each other that occurs, As they go forth in their relationship beyond friendship there are bumps in the road but they navigate through them together and support one another, Unfortunately both have secrets and when Alissas is exposed she feels embarassed,naked and that she is less than she is, Carter though is understanding and only cares about Alissa,

When his is exposed Alissa feels betrayed and exposed, She has a hard time with it and believes the trust that was built is shattered, But Carter is a patient guy, And Alissa works through things and sees who Carter is on the inside and that his secret doesnt make the person as hers didnt make her who she is, It didnt define them. The story is fast paced, sexy and the characters are loveable and real, They have real problems and the emotion from the situations they are in are felt throughout, More importantly the book shows a love that is built on the foundation of trust and acceptance, This is the emotional and beautiful story of Alissa and Carter, How they found one another, became friends and than went further, How Alissa struggled to rise above her upbringing and how Carter was there for her as well to watch her soar, I recieved this for an honest review, This series has blown me away, . I fell in love with the first one and then this one came along and all I have to say is that IM in freaking love with these characters LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

I love Amie's writing she is one of those authors that just pull you in and keep you hooked!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! A beautiful story of a man and a woman finding each other and making it work!

Carter what an amazing man! Hot, intelligent and knows what he wants and boy does that man have patience!

Alissa screwed up from her past just trying to get through to make her dream come true.


One of the reasons I loved this book is because it wasnt cliche, I had already read partof this book and was wondering where this was going to go, it was beyond fantastic!

I loved Thomas, I want him to have his own story! This was my first chance at reading something from Aimie Grey and I am glad I was given the chance to read it.


Our story starts off with Alissa, who despite coming from a rough childhood, is determined to make it in life no matter what it takes, Who cares if she has to dance on a pole, act dumb or even provided certain services to clients, she knows that in the end she will be able to pay for law school on her own.
But the one thing Alissa doesn't expect is a run in with her sexy new neighbor Carter,

Carter Smith, is determined to break away from his stuffy parents and swapping his "white collared" job to something a little blue, totally hit the spot, But who would have imagined the sexy girl who just stomped her toe on his boxes could bring out his protective side,

A friendship soon starts to form but the sexual chemistry is slowing starting to heat up too! However one night out with friends wink, wink, Carter comes up close and personal with Alissa's occupation and all hell breaks loose.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and fell in love with Carter, He was so caring and when he said "Let me take care of you" and "Baby, I can't think of a single goddamn thing that would ever make me regret this.
Please, let me do this for you, You need to be cherished at least once in your life, ", I almost fell out of my chair, Can they both get their HEA Well you will just have to read and find out, Totalstar read. I really enjoyed this book, I've also read book, Never to Keep you don't have to, this still works well as a stand alone and was itching to find out more about Alissa, I was secretly hoping we would see more of Thomas in this book too, and although he isn't a protagonist, I'm pleased he's there,
Carter and Alissa make a wonderful couple, they balance each other out perfectly, I love the way their attraction to eaxh other plays out, the way their relationship evolves through its ups and downs, Alissa is a ballsy go get em type, extremely capable of fighting her own battles and showing the menbin her life who is boss, I love Carter's patience and obvious, overwhelming love for her,
This is a fantastic story about fighting for what you want, with a brilliantly shocking ending! Me and mom met this author at the Louisville author event and mom bought this book and I started reading it right after the first book.
I don't really know how I feel about this couple, I did have trouble reading it because I seemed to be getting bored a lot with their story, I'm glad she got her happy ending though,
I enjoyed this story from the beginning, it had it, Carter and Alissa had some issues to work out but it was understandable, Alissa didn't have the greatest family life and Carter wanted to be his own personal away from his family, they learned to work on their insecurity together, This was a great story about wanting to take control of your own life and live it, I loved the strength that Alissa had and the way that she never wanted to give up, Although she had a rough upbringing she never wanted to turn out like her parents so she closed herself off, Than in walks Carter and he was the perfect guy for her, I loved the chemistry between the two and I loved the way that the story played out, This was the book that you never want to put down but you are also glad for the ending, Alissa Ross has a big secret she keeps from everyone, She is determined to not end up like her drugged out parents, She has been stashing money away for law school and she figures a few more months at her job and she may have enough, Her job , unfortunately , is as a stripper and prostitute, She calls herself Lisa and she wears a wig hoping no one finds out, In her apartment she goes to check her mail and falls over stuff in the hall, Her neighbor, Carter Smith, apologizes to her for her hurting herself, They have an instant connection, but Alissa doesn't get close to anyone because she wants no one to find out, She told Carter they could do things as friends but that is it, One night while Lisa is working her boss told her she has a couple of clients after her dance, Turns out one of them is Carter, He can't believe she works there and now she feels really dirty because he knows what she does, He wants her to quit and let him help her but she says no, They are really starting to get close and Alissa starts to back away, Then she finds out Carter lied and he is really a cop, She feels really betrayed, but can they get past this, This is a great story, however it does contain profanity and sex scenes, Join Alissa and Carter as they find out how relationships work, .
