Retrieve Last Stand Ranch Depicted By Jenna Night Contained In Document

on Last Stand Ranch

is thest book I read by Jenna Night, I'm sorry I stopped reading this story at chapterbecause it didn't grab my interest, I liked this more as a light suspense novel than as a romance, The action never let up for a moment, and Olivias fear and depression were believable and well written, I just wish I had felt more of a connection to Elijah and Olivia as a couple, Each was more interesting on their own than with each other, and I didnt feel any spark between them, "This is Nights debut after being one of the winners in the Killer Voices contest, It is a quick, engaging read and shows that Night has what it takes to craft a memorable suspense" RT Book s, Oh my goodness! This was such a good book!! First, I really liked the heroine, She reminded me of me in her thoughts, actions and words at times lol, She was a sassy one! Elijah was a dream and the perfect complement to her personality! Strong and solid and not emotional : now I enjoyed this but towards this end I was like DUH!star since I guessed the bad guy.
Uhhhh WRONG. I was totally wrong lol, So therefore, it getsstars, Great first novel. received RT Book s safe Olivia Dillon is on her way to her estranged Aunt's house when suddenly the car behind her on the deserted country road rams into her.
She's certain she knows who did it, Ted Kurtz the famous attorney who's career she ruined, Huddled by her car on the side of the road, worried over further retaliation, she meets Elijah Morales, a veteran and neighbouring rancher who takes it upon himself to protect Olivia at all costs.

The novel had a lot of great ideas through it, Suspenseful scenes held your attention and left you wanting to know how this would all escalate, The opening to the book is wild, leaving you fearful for the heroine and wanting to know more about what lead her to that situation.
The theme of family and community was very heartwarming,

However the book struggled with the in between, Scenes that weren't action were filled with repeating dialogue, Characters would repeat facts to other characters after having stated the same thing to the reader in their inner monologue, The characters covered a lot of ground, but nothing really seemed to connect, It felt like a lot happened and the reader would be told about it after the fact, Like the fall festival scene, We get Olivia arriving and feeling uneasy, then it skips to when the fairs done and we get to read about how she eventually relaxed and had fun.
This would have been an amazing chance to show off the characters, Don't tell me she relaxed, show me! Especially when you have two characters that are falling for each other, Elijah talks about wanting to open up more to her and this would have been a cute scene to have him start doing that.
Also, more hints could have been left towards who was after her,

I really appreciate it not being Ted Kurtz in the end, Reading his name over and over during the course of the book was tiring, Around the halfway point it was obvious if it was him he would have made himself known, Someone who accosts you on a crowded street would knowing that them seeing you would heighten their fear, Then the sudden hint that Olivia might have been involved was kind of out of nowhere, It was introduced so late into the book that I thought it had to be her, That this was going to be the big reveal, But it was just dropped after that, Red herrings can be fun, but I think more hints to who really was behind it would have been more rewarding at the end.

Looking through the author's works on goodreads I would hazard that this was a first novel and it shows in its pacing.
The story overall wasn't my favourite but it was a first go, I've already added one of the author's more recent books to my cart, I'm excited and hopeful to see how the writing has changed over time, Warning: Spoiler alert. This review reveals circumstances in the story,

This book was good but not one of my favorites, The plot was a common plot A woman, Olivia Dillion in this case, is being chased by a man who threatens to kill her for revenge.
She is protected and defended by a new acquaintance, Elijah Morales, who is her great aunts neighbor, He is also a man who experienced the horrors of war and has an alert and trained mentality,

What I like: I enjoyed reading Ms, Nights writing. Her terms and phrases are original and interesting, and the story kept me turning pages, The suspense wasnt as strong as I like, but there are definite scenes in the book when the reader wonders if Olivia will make it through a situation.
I also enjoyed the twist at the end of the story which was a surprise and dispelled some of the initial frustration I felt for Olivia.

What I didnt like: So many stories are written involving a frightened woman who puts her family and friends at risk by leading a stalker to their door.
This book is one of those, In this book, after testifying against a mob lawyer, losing her job, and being threatened, Olivia seeks out her eightyyearold great aunt, whom she hardly remembers.
Not only does she seek her out, but she also settles down in her aunts home, adopting that community as her new home, In doing so, she brings the threat and the killer to her aunts door, Even when she believes her stalker finds her at her aunts house, burns down one of her aunts barns, and later ransacks the house, Olivia still refuses to leave the area and reach out to law enforcement to protect her.
Not only does she bring down catastrophe on her great aunt, but her neighbors as well,

Over all, I enjoyed this book, in spite of the stated frustration, and I give it four because of the writing.
Id like to read more by this author, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a light suspense and love story,
