Pick Up Seoul Food Korean Cookbook: Korean Cooking From Kimchi And Bibimbap To Fried Chicken And Bingsoo Conceived By Naomi Imatome-Yun Offered In Interactive EBook

I am half Korean, and I identify more with the Korean half than the Danish half, I grew up eating many of these foods, but like the young adults mentioned at the beginning of the book, I never asked my mother for recipes.
It wasn't until it was too late that I regretted that lapse, I have become a frequent shopper at my late mom's favorite Korean market and have found that if I describe what I want to make to the proprietors, they are more than willing to point me in the right direction and tell me what I need to do.
This book makes it even easier to prepare my childhood favorites, I was really excited about this book because I lived in Seoul for three years, This was a letdown. There were hardly any pictures and there were so many ingredients and instructions that it just seemed too daunting to even attempt, Granted most places now have Asian markets so these ingredients would not be hard to find, however many of these ingredients I have no idea what they are so it would have been helpful to have had a picture for a reference.
I would rather go to a eatery than make this type of food myself if it will be this intensive, This book would be more for someone who has been making this type of food for a while, I'm a huge fan of studying different cultures and love the philosophies of Korean cooking as medicine, as well as that you are what you eat.
I am also a rice fanatic which is the staple of this style of cooking, In seoul food you get an inside look at the art of Korean cooking and customs, Its also filled with interesting facts like that a Korean taco truck started the food truck culture we see around the country today.
I enjoyed reading about the fascinating etiquettes and rituals of this culture and can't wait to create some of the over hundred recipes so nicely organized and easily explained for an enjoyable Hansik Korean cuisine experience.

I received this in exchange for a fair and honest review, Innostuin korealaisesta ruoasta joitakin aikoja sitten, ja tämä keittokirja onkin hyvä johdanto helppoine ohjeineen, miten sikäläisten ruokalajien valmistus sujuu,

So Helpful

The recipes I have tried were simple enough I didn't set my kitchen on fire again and delicious enough that I keep coming back to the book.
Even my husband has a few favorites he requests again and again, There are a few dishes I would have a hard time making without a special occasion budget based on where I live but for the most part, these dishes are easy enough to find ingredients for, seeing as I live in a Koreanimmigrantfriendly city and there are a few stores and restaurants that sell Korean food.
This is a great book I randomly saw at the library, As someone who has lived in Seoul and loves Korean cuisine, I think this is a great intro book with simple to follow recipes.
There are lots of things I enjoy about this book, The author sticks to the standard Korean pantry ingredients in most of the recipes, she introduces each recipe as well as each chapter, the organization is well done, and the recipes seem to be well tested and authentic unless specified not I have some background knowledge of Korean cooking to compare this to.
The ingredient, substitution, and variation tips come in handy for being able to modify the recipes to work for what you have on hand.
I really love that there are two entire chapters devoted to culinary culture and standard kitchen necessities, It's also nice that she recommends a few good brands and gives some guidance in how to select the best cookware for your needs.

What I don't like about the book would actually bring it down to,if partial ratings were an option, The book has more than one editor, yet there are numerous spelling errors and the author gets a little redundant in several of her introductions.
Additionally, the measurements used in the recipes are not uniform throughout the book, Also it bothers me that the book uses stock photos instead of photos of her own cooking, and the paper is all a filmy matte quality that doesn't give a crisp image to the photos.
And on the same token, the picture of common fresh ingredients is both not complete and also not great representation of what they look like in the store.
And to further improve the book, it would have been nice to have a picture of every dish, I've eaten more Korean food than I know the names or ingredients for, so I was hoping for a sort of picture dictionary in that regard.

Overall, this book is a great start in building your Korean food repertoire, It's not exhaustive, but you'll find most of the standards, The recipes sound easy and delicious, I liked the "tips" after each recipe, ranging

from serving, substitution, cooking, and variation, The pictures are gorgeous, the only problem being, that there are not enough of them, A picture is shown for every new chapter and that's it, Would have liked to have seen more, Very useful, practical, and easytofollow book with detailed instructions, First the title of this book makes me giggle I like the play on "soul food", Second this book is just filled with amazing recipes from several kimchi recipes to stews, There is something for everyone here, This book also contains a section on Korean table manners and tableware which was interesting but since I live in the US and will be eating these meals at home, I won't be using any of those but it was still interesting to read about.

I received this ebook at a discounted price in exchange for an honest, unbiased review,
