Acquire From Under Mountains #1 Illustrated By Claire Gibson Contained In Version

on From Under Mountains #1

received this single issue in my October Landfallfreight, My first impression was it looked a bit like Mulan lol, I really like the story but the issue was too short, It cut off right in the middle so it's almost like I didn't read anything at all, I'm double confused because there are two three stories happening simultaneously but they haven't connected yet, or kind of connected, Some of the charcaters look alike so I'm not really sure who is who, I will probably continue this series but I would wait for a trade so I get more of the story, Get the feeling this one's going to be political, I'll need to read more to make sense of the story, The cover artwork is beautiful, and I was hoping for more of the same inside, However, the actual artwork and plot is strictly amateur hour, It's nice that new writers and artists are being given a chance, but I was expecting more polish from something

published I can find better amateur works available online for free.

Aside from that, there are elements of this that speak of great promise, The racial diversity is a big plus, and the costume and world designs show passion and thought, The colour and art shifts when the shadow creature appears are stunning but sadly those panels only make up a fraction of the comic, Maybe this would have worked better as an illustrated novel, Boring!!! So this is a new medevil fantasy series, and i always love that so i got this numberto see what it was like, and i didn't like it! So first off the artwork was amazing, love it, at the end they even include a fancy map of the world which was cool! The story though was boring, by theth page i was bored.
. . so life goes on While the first issue of "From Under Mountains" didn't blow me away like "Rat Queens" did in it's first issue, this was nonetheless a decent opening chapter of a new fantasy saga.

And to be fair, this seems to be more traditional fantasy than Rat Queens, so there's a certain amount of higher expectations I went in with,

.FantasyLaden rounded up to, since I'm feeling generous, Loved the cover art like crazy, wanted to like the book, So far, feels like super typical fantasy fare, and sped through too many character introductions to engage, I haven't the slightest clue about what's going on aside from the fact that Elena's father is a dick but the art is AWESOME! This first issue sets up an awesome cast of characters.
I also love the ambiance established: the creators use silence in a powerful way, There is also little text but the text used is purposeful, I'm impressed! La storia parte in modo coinvolgente nelle prime pagine, ma si perde, e il disegno, piatto, quasi fatto in modo non accurato, non aiuta a proseguire nella lettura.
.I do believe that this single issue is a spinoff from the first two issues ofhouse which Marian Churchland worked on with Brandon Graham and that's the main reason I picked this up because it has very similar vibes and magic.
The artwork in this issue is done by Sloan Leong who, whilst she clearly has talent, is not quite as wonderful as Churchland for blending and tone, I do like a lot of the artwork still, but I think that it is a little too bold and bright in some panels and I would have liked a little more of a soft design that allowed you to get more drawn into the story.

Speaking about the story, so far all we know is that there's a few different characters who are all being introduced to us and there's clearly some political issues which are currently happening.
We see the King and his son and daughter as they chat, and we also get to see some of the lower class citizens going about their day to day lives.
There are spooky rituals and creepy characters, and the storyline is easy to follow, but building, I get the feeling that this could blossom into something pretty entertaining and I will certainly keep my eyes peeled to see if I can find the next issue.
Hopefully it's a series which will get better as it goes,

Overall it's a good beginning, but it's exactly that, just a beginning, I do think we have some interesting rune magics and some etherial, spooky spirits, but equally it's nothing too original just yet, It's certainly likeable though, we'll see where it goes!s overall As posted on sitelinkZezee with Books,

This is a single issue and is the setup for the story, so characters are introduced and a few things happen but we arent given enough to know whats going on.
However, I am intrigued by the story because the setup has a high fantasy feel to it, There is a magical threat, a king trying to manage his kingdom well and raise a strong heir, a willful prince, and a princess who wants to see and experience the world instead of being cooped up in the palace awaiting an arranged marriage.
I like all these elements, but I wanted more before the story stopped,

As for the art, Im not a fan, I didnt like the illustrations or even how its colored, However, I like that the line work is clean and that the story is easy follow in the frames and understand,

Overall:

The story is strong but the art is weak, though I love the cover, As with Pisces, above, Id like to know more but am not sure if Ill go purchase the volume, Story seems like it could be interesting to follow, A bit disappointed in the quality of the art inside, but it's not bad, Just not a fan of the flat colors and intense inking, I found out about this issue from an article I've read in Book Riot's newsletter,

It was an interesting one, not amazing, but good enough to keep me intrigued for more, I've read in my GR friend's review that it's a spinoff from authors' previous work, but I didn't know that going into the issue, Guess, I need to do a little research,
So far, not bad, I'll tell you more after reading an upcoming issues, MARIAN CHURCHLANDHOUSE ARCLIGHT, BEAST cowrites with CLAIRE GIBSON with art and colours by SLOANE LEONG, In the first issue of this new fantasy series, old feuds and new monsters rise up to haunt the isolated northern fortress of Karsgate, .
