Read For Free The Art Of Hygge: How To Bring Danish Cosiness Into Your Life Illustrated By Jonny Jackson Made Available In Paper Copy
be honest, this book is not going to change your life it's common sense, but despite that, I love it so much, It's cute and cosy and I could dip in and out of it again and again just to look at the cute pictures I could have seen for free on pinterest but hey, I can't say no to the feel of a good book now and again! Nice book with a variety of ways to add hygge into the home, from creating a nature display to recipes and photo collage inspiration to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside : Some lovely ideas.
I feel inspired and excited to try some of their suggestions, I have never heard about hygge
before and I was really intrigued when I stumbled upon the term,
Thank God, I did! Hygge is basically me,
It's a Danish way of living, basically, where you cherish the little things in life and you are grateful for everything you have and don't take anything for granted.
Hygge is all about coziness, happiness, warmth, hot cocoa, sitting by the fire with a good book or a loved person, Just being content in this simple moment, cherishing it to the fullest!
So get your fuzzy socks, oversized sweaters, a mug of hot tea or coffee and curl up under a blanket with a good book and just.
. . be happy : sitelinkPurchase The Art of Hygge here for just!
Hygge isnt just a passing trend! Its been a lifestyle in Denmark for generations and if you havent looked into it theres a lot to like about it: embracing cosiness and simplicity over a frenzied daily schedule and constant productivity.
This book is a really sweet introduction to hygge, full of recipes and crafty projects and has lots of coloured photos and illustrations, Put aside a weekend to snuggle down with this book and then make something from it bliss!
Greer The Book Grocer Leuke sfeerfoto's maar weinig nieuws te lezen.
Sowieso weinig te lezen in dit boek! If you live in the countryside in the UK during the winter and have endless time on your hands and a wood burning fireplace, this book may be for you!
Unfortunately it's not a nice guide to increasing happiness in your life using wholesome concepts, it's mostly a winter arts and crafts book.
It was a very nice and enjoyable read with great ideas, I couldn't stand but prepare myself a chocolate fondue yumm! and make a lantern out of LED lights, Sometimes it seemed to me that all the hygge recipes include a fireplace and the sound of rain outside lol but the beautiful pictures corrected this, Highly recommended if you'd like to try something hyfggelig immediately, The mug cosy is clearly a specifically crocheted item, not a cut up knitted sock, The main photo of the cookies shows them as artfully decorated with multiple colours, patterns and detailing and the instructions are: "spread the icing into the biscuit using a knife, or decorate using a piping bag".
All the instructions assume you live somewhere cold, Even the 'Hygge Inspiration' label on the pages of photos annoys me what else would they be random photos of The whole concept of the book is Hygge inspiration.
Clearly a publisher said 'oh look, Hygge's a thing, write me X number of words about it then find some random pictures to match'.
This book was given to me as a gift, I gave it two as it is coherent, proof read and has some nice pictures, I might even make one of the recipes, but it is otherwise a waste of trees.
The crafts are poorly constructed and the 'simple pleasures' part just annoyed me a typically preachy list of things I should do in my "welldeserved me time" have a bath, read by the fire, watch a movie.
Where would I find the hours to do those things How are they any different from any other list of things I should be doing to take care of myself in these imaginary tracts of time that I'd somehow have if I just.
. . Well, I don't even know, No one tells you how to find time for yourself, just that you should, that you 'deserve it', If I took two hours off to watch a movie my children would burn down the house, At least that would get rid of the piles of washing and dishes I suppose, Yeah, I get this book was given to me to make me feel good but all I really want to do is throw it out the window.
In case you were wondering, I just spent theminutes of 'me time' I did have writing this rant, possibly not what the book meant about taking time for myself.
A super short read, read it in less than an hour, If you're looking for a book that explains more about what Hygge is and how it works within the culture of Denmark and the social and psychological benefits of it, this isn't the book for you.
For that I'd recommend The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well by Meik Wiking,
However! That's not to say I disliked this book, not at all! I actually quite like it, it's simple and focuses more on providing you with DIY crafts and recipes.
Granted it focuses almost exclusively on the colder months, but that is to be expected and can still be adapted for any time of year,
I'd recommend this book even if it's just for the tutorials and recipes, A short book exploring key areas of Hygge, The Art of Hygge touches on interior decor, outside activities, food and drinks to make and a little on things to make, If youve never read anything about Hygge, then this would be a good place to start, The things in the book are common sense things really, Wintry walks, candles, things that make you feel cosy! The book is pure heaven, Pictures, crafts, recipes, inspiration, quotes, proverbs, and everything Hygge, Just sitting in front of the fire looking at the cover brings me peace, Great introduction to Hygge with lovely tumblr style images, DIYs and recipes, I'm going to attempt a few of them, Would make a nice gift, Because I live on a boat, candles, open fires, bonfires and hot baths are not really options for me, Roasted chestnuts maybe. But there is no way that I am going to cut up my socks to create tea cosies for my coffee cup, I hope land lubbers get more out of this book than I did, Lots of good winter warming recipes, A cute book on Hygge,
I encountered the term when I went to Denmark, and hoped this book would be more about the psychology of Hygge, but it focuses more on practical things that you can do to introduce it into your home.
It has some nice design ideas and recipes, helpful tips on winter things, and was generally an easy read,
It has made me want to decorate more! This book makes me feel anything but cosy, It makes me pissed off that these guys probably earned at least a month's living expenses forodd words of the sort of ultrabland lifestyle copy I've churned out in the hope of being paid three or four quid by a semiliterate content farmer.
Every other sentence I could feel the familiar flailing desperation: shoehorning in some tangentially related concept, or an idea so hackneyed you can't believe anyone still cares about this shit, whilst trying to get the thing finished as soon as possible then you realise, "actually, that kind of works".
But they're charging readers.a pop Clueless, similarly flailing, Christmas gift buyers must be more lucrative than Google keyword spamming, Then come Boxing Day, it will end up in bargain bins in The Works, and not long afterwards, charity shops and World of Books will get sick of the sight of unwanted copies.
The genericness almost has to be seen to be believed, When the page doesn't contain a montage of stock photos of autumn leaves, log fires, decorative stones and shells, or minimalist living rooms, or a single "inspirational" quote in bold type, it features one short paragraph of the kind of guff commonly found mostly unread beside photospreads in glossy mags for familyorientated middle aged women.
If you weren't already convinced that hygge was cynically adopted by British marketers as a way of flogging more throws, candles and pseudoScandi stuff you wish you'd left behind in an outoftown bargain store that wasn't even any good at ripping off Ikea, this book should do the job.
As someone who'd heard of the hygge concept years ago, and its analogues in a few other North European languages, I'm not really the target audience for this book.
But even compared with my low expectations, there is bugger all that's Danish in here besides the word "hygge", There are pumpkin and squash recipes, and the flabbergastingly mainstream list of "feelgood and family movies" is literallyAmerican exceptions: Amelie, Wallace and Gromit but it's not like you hadn't guessed those already.
Is anyone really going to start preparing their own firewood, hold a bonfire, or make jam for the first time using instructions from this book In that unlikely event, there are strangely detailed, yet notquitecomprehensiveenough guidelines.
However, with some of the other content, including simple if sugary baking recipes and crap craft items, you could do a lot worse for rainyday activities when babysitting a primary school age kid.
They even give instructions on how to make a pompom, just in case the book is read by the only Brit who didn't have substantial experience in the matter by the age of seven.
In fairness, I can't say The Art of Hygge was entirely uninspiring, because after reading it I did some sewing, But hemming, whilst swearing copiously at a recalcitrant bobbin, is not quite what the authors had in mind, And in other oddities among the contents, the list of plants best at air filtering, based on research by NASA, was something I'd never thought of looking for, but was pleased to have found.
You do not need to buy this book, You can finish the entire thing loitering in a library or bookshop, long before anyone says "excuse me" to hint you might be in the way, Or, in the pointlessly tryhard spirit of the The Art of Hygge's suggested activities, you could even have your own lovely craft afternoon pasting it together from Pinterest photos and recipe sites! Exclamation mark fully intended.
If you read one thing on hygge this winter, it should not be Jackson and Larsen's book, but sitelinkthis article, A little book of loveliness! Gorgeous and simple ideas for happier living, My only complaint is that it just isn't long enough, I will definitely be trying most of these ideas out to bring a little more hygge into my life, Hygge Love it. This book Not so much, It took away all my hygge by managing just to annoy me, I can't really put my finger on what is wrong, but somehow all the magical innocence and purity is missing and all that is left is stating the obvious and cashing in on the hygge trend.
I wouldnt recommend this book as an explanation of hygge but it gives you lots of ideas what to do if you want to embrace a hygge life.
Cute little book. Could be nice for a gift, Such a collection of superficial stuff, . . still wondering how they could be so happy and having one of the highest rate of alcoholism in Europe,
Una raccolta di cose inutili, e comunque continuo a chiedermi come mai, se sono tanto felici, hanno uno dei tassi di alcolismo piú alti d'Europa.
There are a couple of cute photos of dogs snuggling up together apart from that this book just states the obvious, Fires, candles, picking seasonal fruit, carving a pumpkin, all very obvious activities that people who are that way inclined will do anyway, I don't need a book to tell me an open fire or glass of wine is enjoyable,
A great guide for a being from another planet visiting earth and wondering what will be enjoyable and how to have some quality down time.
