Avail Yourself The Horse Dancer Conceived By Jojo Moyes Available As Audiobook
Nederlandse paperback Ik heb dyslexie
The Horse Dancer was a beautiful book and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading, Jojo Moyes really is a talented author who manages to weave her words into your mindset and turn her characters into your friends/colleagues/acquaintances they really could be people from your life.
As someone who has horses featuring largely within my own life, I don't always enjoy reading books about horses or with horses featured, mainly because lack of knowledge, and therefore incorrect content, on the authors part annoys the heck out of me! Luckily, and probably somewhat unsurprisingly, Jojo didn't fall into that category and the story continued to flow.
The Horse Dancer is a book which will make you stop and look at your own life, at what is in front of you and it will open your eyes to those around you as well.
.
wow wat een mooi verhaal In my quest to read one of my favourite authors back catalogue, The Horse Dancer was next on the list and, I have to be honest, was a book I was quite wary about reading.
I'm not really a "horsey" kind of girl although I love animals but rest assured, you don't have to know a whole lot about horses to appreciate this lovely, uplifting novel.
As with many of Jojo's books we have two stories running concurrently and we hear the points of view of many of the main characters alternately.
The first story is about Natasha and her soon to be exhusband Mac, They are in the process of getting a divorce and are attempting to sort out their house and other financial issues when their paths cross with Sarah.
Sarah is a fourteen year old girl who has two major loves in her life, The first is her beloved grandfather, Henri whom she lives with and at one time was a professional rider for the prestigious Le Cadre Noir, a French dressage academy but he gave it all up to come to England to marry the love of his life.
Sarah's second love is her horse Boo who she spends all of her available time with at his stables, owned by one of her grandfather's oldest friends, Cowboy John.
Her dream is to follow in the grandfather's footsteps and ride with Le Cadre Noir in Saumur but when something terrible happens to Henri she is thrust into a catastrophic situation that is not only dangerous for her but may lead to her losing her best friend Boo forever.
That's all I really want to say about the plot but believe me, there are so many twists and turns to this narrative that I was compelled to keep reading page after page, desperate to find out what happened to Sarah and Boo.
Sarah is a beautifully drawn character that I instantly felt so much for, especially when her situation in life becomes so dire that she is forced into making drastic and potentially lifealtering decisions.
I did enjoy the story of Natasha and Mac but it only started getting really interesting when Sarah entered their lives.
Natasha presents as quite a cold person in contrast to her happygolucky, easygoing exhusband but I think she was the one character of the novel that underwent the most change and it was a fascinating journey to experience for me as a reader.
There are also some actionpacked, heartstopping sequences I wasn't expecting which involve a horse ride/chase through central London that may not be entirely believable to some readers but which I loved.
I certainly didn't anticipate enjoying this novel as much as I did and I think fans of Jojo Moyes work will feel the same.
If you're one of those "horsey" girls I mentioned earlier Well, there's a real treat in store for you!

I've enjoyed other Jojo Moyes novels, but I found this one to be inane, So much of its conflict was unrealistic, Would an exhusband and wife share their house together and accept a foster child Would people give a woman a hard time for prioritizing her runaway foster child Would ayearold girl really prepare to prostitute herself for back rent without even trying to ask for help Why did Cowboy John smoke dope in a car How could a rider and horse run along a freeway and jump over a car What the hell is happening Why do I refuse to put a book down even when it is obviously a waste of time At least I learned about capriole and now I want a Selle Français.

Im not a horse person but have always been fascinated by these magnificent animals and the people obsessed with them.
One of the things that worked about this story is how you didnt need to have background information to appreciate the world, conflicts and issues.
Henri Lachappelle was part of an elite French calvary skilled in an art form of dressage dating back overyears.
Hes a widow living with hisyear old granddaughter, Sarah, who hes training to reach his skill level.
They own a horse named Boo who is stabled in an urban area of London beneath railway arches.
When Henri is suddenly hospitalized, Sarah finds herself alone until her path crosses Natasha Macauley, a solicitor advocate who takes her in, along with her estranged husband, Mac.
The challenges that follow bring out the best and worst of all of them as they struggle to make their situation work.
Moyes crafts each of these characters so skillfully, showing all sides, boils and all, There are times when you want to throttle all of them but then later want to applaud them for whats truly in their hearts.
Natasha was the most challenging to embrace as she was adept at hiding her feelings, presenting most frequently a rather cool indifference.
But typical of a Moyes character, what lay beneath that exterior was complex, What binds all of them together, however is Boo, the most fabulous horse who Sarah loves unconditionally,
Fiona Hardingham is outstanding in her narration, providing each character with his and her own distinctive voice and personality while communicating a difficult story.
She made the words leap from the pages, creating vivid images of setting, the quirky folks in Henri and Sarahs world and, of course Boo.
I really enjoyed this story, despite some situations that stretched the limits of credulity who doesnt notice a horse traveling from London to France through the streets.
Its a good tale with great characterizations and Im glad I opted to listen versus read,
