helping children learn to read
Downloaded for myyr old granddaughter, I used Dick and Jane to teach my children born in earlys to read as I remembered the feeling of pride I received as a child that I could actually read these books by myself.
my daughter has spent plenty on new easy reading books for granddaughter but she wasn't getting more than a few words read before losing interest.
she sat down with this on my Kindle and read it in one sitting occasionally spelling out
words she wasn't familiar with for me to help.
She was so excited that she could read this by herself that she insisted we download all Dick amp Jane books available.
The repetition of easy words combined with vividly colored pictures kept her turning pages just like it did with my children.
I especially love how the book adds only a couple of new words to each chapter while repeating others building up a sizeable vocabulary by the end of the book.
Sometimes the old methods just work the best! This is a great series for first time readers, I was really impressed with how quickly my daughter started reading the words, Kind of weird and disjointed, Easy sight words, but I feel the sentences could have been more formative, Almost too easy, even for my kindergartner, I loveeeeee Dick and Jane books!!!! Its easy for myyr old, All the words are easy to pronounce but great for getting kids ready for kindergarten, This was always fun to read, I have fond memories of one of these books that I had as a kid, But I did remember them as being slightly inane, My son is just learning to read so I think it was probably pretty good for him, but one does feel a bit silly reading it out loud.
See. See Jane. See Jane there! Ugh Notes:
these are the best early readers available
repetitive vocabulary with familybased 'stories'
beautiful illustrations
maybe not astar book but in this category these books shine! I like the original books much better.
I suppose they are no longer available, I do not remember who I got these from but today is the first time I have compared them to the old ones.
For teaching purposes, they did not complete a list of words in the back like in the old time readers.
These lists tell you which words will be new to the children if they have read previous books of the series.
It also helps keep the books in order so you know what level each book should be introduced.
I have taught many children to read using the Sally, Dick and Jane Readers, But mine are falling apart, Millions of Americans remember Dick and Jane and Sally and Spot, too!, Now Dick and Jane and all their pals are back with revised editions of these classic readers for a whole new generation of readers to enjoy!
