to Emily Dickinson
DEAR EMILY The
Images you Paint
Are fine but all these
Dashes annoy me So
Why would You do that
Im so confused
Some really beautiful lines, but overall, I didnt understand a lot of it
And the dashes were sooooo excessive and served no purpose other than to annoy the reader This is a lovely edition of Emily Dickinson's poetry.
The illustrations are beautiful. If you collect her poetry books, as I do, this edition is a must to have, Challenge: Book with a subtitle,
I will try rereading this again to get more out of it, I enjoyed the end where it talked about her life more than the poetry, but I did enjoy some of it.
Declining to rate this because the poems are great but the afterward and bio of Dickinson are TRAAAAAAASH, Beautiful. Stunning. Emotional.
Emily Dickenson is brilliant and wholly fascinates me, I thoroughly enjoyed the Afterword of this collection as well, It provided this novice with a small glimpse into the life and times of the author, I understood, a little better, her mindset and inspiration for these poems because of its inclusion, Not to mention the awesome inscription in my used copy!!! Literally perfect, Selected poems with afterword by Winfield Townley Scott, Illustrated by Bill Greer.
you will help yourself by reading this, stars

Most of her friendships were therefore carried out by correspondence, Although Dickinson was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly eighteen hundred poems were published during her lifetime.
The work that was published during her lifetime was usually altered significantly by the publishers to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time.
Dickinson's poems are unique for the era in which she wrote they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation.
Many of her poems deal with themes of death and immortality, two recurring topics in letters to her friends, Although most of her acquaintances were probably aware of Dickinson's writing, it was not until after her death inwhen Lavinia, Emily's younger sister, discovered her cache of poemsthat the breadth of Dickinson's work became apparent.
Her first collection of poetry was published inby personal acquaintances Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Mabel Loomis Todd, both of whom heavily edited the content.
A complete and mostly unaltered collection of her poetry became available for the first time inwhen The Poems of Emily Dickinson was published by scholar Thomas H.
Johnson. Despite unfavorable reviews and skepticism of her literary prowess during the lateth and earlyth century, critics now consider Dickinson to be a major American poet.
