but at this point it's all pure semantics because I am leaning very strongly toward,

The book is very well written, I loved every single character in it, even the two females a pirate and a prostitute.
Plenty of gay couples to continue the series, so I am looking forward to booksand,

The only 'smells fishy' moment was thatyear old Job, aka Shrimp, seemed to have recovered all too fast afteryears of sexual abuse.
What was it a month two

Lei, thank you thousand times for gifting me this series! I truly enjoyed this first installment :

Jules Radcliffe's crowning achievement.
A must read.

I have read and reread all of Jules' pirate books, and I have to say this one is the ultimate.

Job's past shaped his harsh world view, but did not make him a coward, With gentle guidance from Garrett, Job becomes his own man, A wonderful prequel to an engaging series, Aww

I really like Ms.
Radcliffe's lively and descriptive writing style! A Pirate's Promise is a novella and I always prefer longer books but I've got to say that the interaction between Garrett and Job was very believable and also so sweet.
I'm jumping into the next book! Pirates to the rescue! The first in the Pirates of Port Royal series, Pirates Promise tells the story of Job, a young man pressed into service on a slaver ship as a boy.
At the start of the book, he is rescued from the Spanish ship that sunk and captured him from his first berth by an unlikely force: Pirates.

After having spent much of his time at sea being used and abused by cruel men, Job has to learn how to adjust to a new life where he is his own man, and no one will force him to do anything he doesnt.
As he comes to terms with his freedom, he finds himself falling for one of the men who saved him from suffering, the Irish pirate, Garrett.

CW for vague mentions of past rape, dubcon, sexual coercion, and PTSD, When Job's ship is attacked by pirates, he sees an end to the years of abuse, even if that end is death.

Garrett stops his shipmate from killing the boy, and he can't deny the attraction between them,

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review,

Job has had no luck in his young life, He was pressed into service on his first ship, little better than a slave then captured by the Spanish, Between them both, he suffered years of abuse, used so much by sailors that he thought that was all everyone would want from him.

When pirates attack his ship, he takes the opportunity to kill one of his Spanish abusers before he is swept up by the crew of the Audacious, and has to learn how to interact with honourable men.

Garrett is drawn to the handsome young man, but knowing his history, he knows that it would be wrong to take advantage of him.
He's convinced himself that any affection Job shows him is merely gratitude for saving his life,

I really enjoyed this little book, For such a short story, it creates strong characters, a vibrant world of pirates and ports, It is incredibly steamy, but that doesn't overwhelm the budding romance between Garrett and Job, For murderous pirates it was kinda sweet!
It also feels historicallyaccurate and respectful of the times,

Overall, this was a fast, fun read and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, We go back in time with this installment in the series, and its interesting to see more of our favorite characters from the first two books but from before they were couples.

Its the Caribbean in, Life hasnt been easy for Job Wright, Pressganged onto a merchant ship and then captured by the Spanish, hes been passed around and had to do whatever was necessary to stay alive.
When the Audacious defeats the Spanish ship he is on, Job is rescued by crewman Garrett Dubh, People often underestimate Job hes short and slim, often mistaken for being years younger than the eighteen he has matured to, Coping with the PTSD of being continually abused and raped by the Spanish, Job has a hard time coping with the brethren on the Audacious.
His viewpoint is, if it seems too good to be true, he must be already dead,

Garrett only wants to be Jobs friend to begin with, Knowing what the boy has suffered, he realizes the only way to truly protect Job is for Garrett to claim him as his bedmate and matelot so that other men aboard ship will leave the handsome manchild alone.
What Garrett doesnt expect to happen is for Job to show him just how much of a man his life has molded him into, and that now that Jobs life is his own, he wants to claim Garrett as his also.

Once again we get an accurate and descriptive accounting of what life would have been like on board a pirate ship in thes.
The historical accuracy is always spot on with Radcliffe, and its a pleasure to read, If you would like to see accurate maps of the Caribbean in thes, they are on Radcliffes website, She also has another series set at the same time and in the same world as the Pirates of Port Royal series.
The series is called Chevaliers amp Charlatans and is free to subscribers of her newsletter, There is also a free story set in the Pirates of Port Royal series named Swamp Dog, which is a rather brutal short about a thief.

I truly hope that we get further glimpses of these two as the series progresses, This is a sweet and poignant short story with a believable HEA, Even with the age difference of the MCs, Garrett and Job are good together, and their story is as heartwarming as it is heartrending.
For fans of the Port Royal series this is a short mustread, with favorite characters moonlighting throughout, and gives one more glimpse about life at sea on the Audacious.

“You got yourself drunk last night,” said Job softly, “You mightve taken me to the Mermaid, but you hated the thought of me being with another, didnt you As much as I hate the thought of you being with another.

At this, Garrett finally looked up, his eyes lambent, “I did hate it. I do now. But I feel responsible for you, for your happiness, I fear to do the wrong thing by you, ”

Jobs hand shook a little as he laid it on Garretts cheek, “You wont. And you aint responsible. But I do wish I was yours, andand you was mine, ”
