Gain Fallen Women (Black Country #6) Edited By Lindsey Hutchinson Rendered As Print

awful. Riddled with historical errors just one example of many: a late Victorian streetwalker could NOT afford to rent a house with a spare bedroom! There was absolutely no sense of time or place and no understanding of period social or class norms the romance was unbelievable and the primary villain was so onedimensional as to be ridiculous.
To add insult to injury, the thing was soooo long! There were at least two too many plot threads, and they all seemed to drag on forever.
Really, really NOT recommended!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC copy for my review, Light reading. A pleasant story set in thes showing how one girl succeeds through determination and the help of her friends who are ladies of the streets.

She find a home, work and eventually a talent for fashion design to enable her to start her own business.

She has already won the heart of Lord Wyndham who admires her beauty and her outspoken nature, Good story

A good Victorian saga the story of Ann Felton taking a job in the bell public house in wednesbury and befriending a lot of street women.
Richard Wyndham takes a shine to Ann, and Ann with Richards help takes over his shop making wedding gowns.
But there's a murderer on the loose killing prostitutes Jack towers needs to catch this murderer fast, This book has everything crime, romance and action, I enjoyed reading it all good story all the way through, sorry to see the end.
Ann Felton had a struggle to survive after the death of her parents, She eventually gets a job as a kitchen maid in the Bell Inn public house, a place where the local ladies of the night go to before they hand around the street corners.
Ann makes friends with these ladies and they look out for each other, Wednesbury is poverty stricken, so life is a continual struggle, Fate leads her to meet Richard Wyndham and Victoria Beckett, who were born with silver spoons in their mouths.
Ann and Richard quickly develop feelings for each other, Richard wants to help Ann in any way that he can, However, Victoria wants Richard for her husband and will sink to new depths to do everything in her power to get her man.

Although I did enjoy this book, I did feel that it could have been condensed a little bit.
The women are all strong characters, they needed to be for the lives that they led, A love story where two opposites are attracted to each other, the obstacles that are in their way and a couple of murders are thrown in just to mix things up.
My only criticism of this book is that there are a few historical errors, but for me, it did not put me off the story.
Overall, it's a decent enough read,

I would like to thank NetGalley, Aria and the author Lindsey Hutchinson for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have loved this book as the story pulls you in as Ann struggles to survive after losing her parents then her home, but she has friends in the ladies of the night.
As time passes life in Wednesbury is colourful but things are going to change and not for the better i don't like to give the plot away so i will say if you want to read a good book then read this.
Well worthThank you to Lindsey Hutchinson, Ann Felton has had to struggle to survive since both her parents died when she was very young
The town of Wednesbury in the English region the Black Country is a hostile place in Victorian times and Ann was glad of the shelter and food school gave her.

Sleeping in shop doorways and with nowhere to live for years, Ann is relieved when, aged, she gets works at The Bell public house, and is befriended by the local ladies of the night.

Ann is glad of their friendship, but ongoing poverty makes life a continual struggle,

On the flip side of life, Victoria Beckett and Viscount Richard Wyndham are two people for whom life bears no resemblance to Ann's.
Both grew up with silver spoons firmly in their mouths, and neither can understand Ann's struggles,

Ann will change both their lives forever,

Fallen Women is a fastmoving historical novel and I was straight into it, The struggles of the time for Ann versus the opulent life of Victoria and Richard was a great way to show the contrast between classes.

As soon as we met Vctoria she seemed spoilt and unfriendly, Ann was strongwilled and stood up for herself,

Fallen Women is a historical novel that will make you feel and experience the life of many different people and it has a good level of detail with wellchosen words to describe things people and places.

Fallen Women is a book that will make you grateful for what you have and put your life into perspective.

Thanks to Linsdey Hutchinson and Aria for ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review and a blog tour slot.
I have an embarrassing confession to make yes yet another one, My confessions are fast becoming a habit, Anyway back to this particular confession, Although I have a couple of Lindseys books on my ever increasing To Be Read mountain, I havent actually read one before.
Until now that is. I was invited to take part in the blog tour for The Fallen Women and I thought that it would be an ideal opportunity to acquaint myself with Lindseys work.
Now I am wondering why the hell havent I read one of her books before now, Its safe to say that I now know just what I have been missing, I absolutely loved reading The Fallen Women but more about that in a bit,
The two main female characters are called Ann Felton and Victoria Beckett and they couldnt be more different from each other if they tried.
Ann Felton is left an orphan when she loses her parents at a young age, My heart broke for her as she has to grow up extremely quickly as well as make a life for herself.
She really is on her own, Eventually Ann does manage to find a job and lodgings but even this is fraught with danger, Ann is a hard working, kind, genuine young lady with a heart of gold, She is also extremely talented in designing and creating dresses, By the time I finished reading the first chapter, I did feel as though Ann was a friend of mine and I felt particularly defensive of her.
What can I say about Victoria Beckett that is polite and doesnt use rude words To be blunt, she is one spoilt, deluded, selfish, badly behaved brat who just seems to have no compassion for anybody or anything other than herself.
Victoria also has an inflated sense of her own importance, She treats her parents like dirt and she thinks that she can twist them around her little finger, which she does to a point but her father reaches breaking point and she is then left to fend for herself.
She decides that she is going to marry Viscount Richard Wyndham whether he likes it or not, Theres one big problem in that he much prefers Ann, Victoria considers Ann to be an enemy, which stemmed from the fact that Ann humiliates Victoria in front of witnesses and Victoria vows revenge.
I dont want to type too much more as I dont want to give too much away as I would hate to spoil it for anybody.

Oh my goodness The Fallen Women is one hell of a read that really affected me emotionally, The authors writing style really draws you into the story and before long reading The Fallen Women will become an addiction.
Thats what happened to me anyway, I found it simply impossible to put the book down, which didnt go down at all well with my two grumpy Labradors.
I became desperate to know whether or not Ann achieved the happiness she so deserved and whether Victoria got what she deserved.
The more I read, the more desperate I became to know how the story ended and the pages of the book just went past in a blur.
The author has created characters who seem to jump off the page and become real as it were, I took extremely well to Ann and I took against Victoria really quickly, I so wanted to jump inside the pages of the book to defend Ann, to deal with her enemies and above all to give her a huge hug.
At the same time I wanted to jump inside the pages of the book to give Victoria a darn good slapping across the chops with a wet flip flop for the way she treats her parents, the fact that she treats Ann worse than muck, the fact that she has an overinflated sense of her own importance and the fact that she has such an overwhelming sense of entitlement.
Reading The Fallen Women really did put me through an emotional wringer as it were, I seemed to suffer a whole wealth of contrasting emotions, There were times where I wanted to cry, where I wanted to shout, where I wanted to scream, where I wanted to chuckle and where I wanted to cheer.

In short, I really did enjoy reading The Fallen Women and I would definitely recommend it to other readers.
I fully intend to find the rest of Lindseys other books and make reading them one of my top reading priorities for.
I cant wait to read what Lindsey comes up with next, Heres hoping that we dont have too long to wait, The score on the Ginger Book Geek board just has to beout of, .
