on Mafia King (Young Irish Rebels, #2)

is the second book in the series but could be read as a stand alone if you like, We don't see much of the first couple in this book so their story doesn't really play in to the action here, If you are keeping track, Shay is the dark cousin of Liam and lives in the North with his dad, He has taken over for his dad as King of the North,

This book is a bit more dark than the first I think, As far as arranged marriage goes, it is pretty typical Mafia operations, However, Emma is a spitfire, The more she fights, the more Shay comes to respect her,

Lots of fighting and subterfuge going on in this one, A bit of a twist in the whole story arc ofkings ruling the south, Looking forward to meeting Richard and seeing where his story takes this family,

Complimentary copy provided for an honest review, The story continues and it's Shay's turn, This was a slow burn for sure and a quite eventful book BUT I need answers for several of the issues that arise during the story.
. . I feel a little disappointed even if I enjoyed the story, Jenna,

Another fantastic addition to the series! This was Shay's story and boy did he show a lot more to us in this one.
He's still alpha, ruthless but shows a little more caring side that I loved! Our heroine Emma is feisty and strong and I loved that about her.
Together they were explosive, both when they liked each other and didn't like each other lol, The story was drama and action packed and left a happy ending but with a touch of mystery for the next one, Shay is the embodiment of the broken, dark, antihero! Emma is the strong woman

I am not going to lie, Shay has his issues and there were times in the book that I questioned how Vi Carter could redeem Shay, he is angry, insufferable, and oh so broken.
But by the end of the book, I fully understood Shay, his actions, and why he was the way he was,

Emma was raised to be the perfect mafia wife for Jack O'Reagan, Imagine her delight when the day finally comes, and Jack's father is meeting with her father, It's going to happen FINALLY she will marry Jack O'Reagan, But wait, we read book one, so we know that Jack already found his someoneuh oh!

Emma is about to find out that her dream of marrying Jack is over and instead she is marrying Shay O'Reagan, a Northerner.
Oh goodness, Southerner's Emma's family hate Northerner's and vice versa, What kind of devious plans are afoot

Shay has been consumed with vengeance, Cage fighting is how he dulls the pain and causes it but when he is told that in order to gain a seat in the South, he must wed, he is willing to wed.
Anything, to finally unite the North and South,

Mafia King is full of lies, betrayals, and deceit, The story of Emma and Shay is not easy, and I will be honest there was one point in the book where I HATED Shay and I hoped that Emma would run.
At that one point, I felt there was no hope for Shay, but slowly the secrets are revealed, the story unfolds, and the chemistry between Emma and Shay begins to grow.

Emma is a strong young woman with a stiff spine, She may be a little naïve at times, but she learns fast, and she knows how to handle herself and eventually how to handle Shay.

This story is a dark read with disturbing content, If that is not your thing, turn back now, Mafia King is also full of suspense, twist and turns, steam and treachery that knows no bounds, Sometimes you can't tell who is good, and who is bad, I think all the characters are both at some point, This is an intriguingly dark read and I can't wait for more of the Young Irish Rebels, Nobody writes irish mafia like Vi Carter, I really liked jacks book but Shay and Emma top it, I haven't been able to put this down, so many twists and shady characters, Liam being his normal self still gives me a chill just from being on a page, that's how good Vi is at making these characters real, I really am scared of Liam and was worried for Emma when he was around.
I'm completely in love with Shay and can't wait for the next book to get more of him and to meet Richard, I think I'm going to be petrified of him, MAFIA KING is the second instalment in Vi Carters contemporary, adult YOUNG IRISH REBELS erotic, dark, Irish Mafia romance series, This is Shay OReagan, and Emma Murphys story line, MAFIA KING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty, Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary,

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line content including graphic violence, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives Shay and Emma MAFIA KING follows the arranged marriage relationship between Shay OReagan, and Emma Murphy.
Shay OReagan is about to take his place as King in the East as part of the Mafia rule of Ireland but to seal the deal Shay is forced into an arranged marriage with Mafia princess Emma Murphy whose father is a King in the South but all does not go according to plan as deals made behind the scenes threaten the life of our story line heroine, deals meant to secure more power for everyone concerned.
But the death of Shays brother in an illegal underground fighting arena has Shay focusing on revenge against the people involved, revenge that splits Shays attention placing Emma in the direct line of fire.
What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Emma and Shay, and the potential fallout as promises made threaten any chance of a happily ever after for our story line couple.

Emma Murphy had no idea that her life was about to implode, Believing she was betrothed Shays brother Jack, our heroine is blind sided when a deal is made for her to marry Jacks brother Shay.
Refusing to accept her fate, Emma is miserable and attempts to make Shays life miserable any way she is able, Shay was already a King in the North but an opening elsewhere meant marrying Emma Murphy would secure his place as the King in the East but Shay found himself falling for the immature but feisty Emma Murphy, a woman who would become a pawn in a much larger game of power and control.

The relationship between Shay and Emma is an arranged marriage, Their immediate attraction to one another is cooled by Emmas hostility and immaturity, as well as Shays need to gain control of the people taking aim at both himself and the woman with whom he will fall in love.
On the run, trying to stay one step ahead of the people in charge, Emma finds herself falling for a man who is willing to die to protect the people he loves.
The ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense,

We are introduced to Shays parents Liam and Ava OReagan, as well as his brother Jack Emmas father Red Murphy, and her brothers Noel, Mark, and James IRA Chief Commandant Lucian Sheahan Underground match arranger Amanda.

MAFIA KING is a story of family and relationships, power and control, The premise is dramatic, dark and gritty the romance is energetic, sizzling yet aggressive the characters are stubborn and spirited,

Plot Summary :
Emma was all set to marry the man who had been chosen for her and she was very excited to do so.
Until her family changed the plans and ended up giving her to the only man she despised, Shay was the northern man and there was no way she would marry him willingly, He was everything she hated and now she was stuck with him,

Shay had been told that his wife would be Willing, But one look at her raging face and her innumerable attempts to run away, he got the hint that willing was the last thing she would ever be.
Emma cultivated him in the worst way possible and there was no way he was letting her go, She has a purpose and she was going to fulfill that willingly or unwillingly,

Overall Opinion :
I have been waiting for this story since I have read the first book, Shay captivated me and I really wanted to read his book! Shay and Emma were pure fire and I loved reading about them together.
Emma had a lot of fight in her and that was something I could appreciate,

Both of them were like fire and water and they did not get together no matter what, That did not mean that they did not have any chemistry, Their path was not easy and it gave me immense pleasure to see them struggle through it all and make out in the end! This one was a one time read for me as there were a few scenes where the characters irritated the hell out of me.
I would recommend this to all the hardcore mafia Romance lovers!

𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘:
So I am walking into this really loving Mafia Prince, book one.
As I am reading Mafia King, I found myself liking it but also not wowed by it, Personally for me, I think its the way the story played out thats why I wasnt wowed, This is my own shellfish reasons for just finding it likable, which isnt a bad thing, Shay has gotten the leftovers as I would say, as Emma was originally promised to Jack, from book one, hence an arranged marriage between Emma and Shay.
Shay came in open to this arranged marriage, Emma, not so much, she was so spicy and made life hell, This is what makes this a bumpy ride as Emma will not make this easy, especially when she wanted Jack, However, when the tides change and Emma comes around it was a nice read,

𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐘:
Physical chemistry was to my liking, I definitely had no issues, Depending on what you like it can be pleasing,

𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒:
We see Shays family, Jack and Liam and Emmas family Noel, James and Mark, It seems Noel taught Emma quite a few things, There were others and I feel they all played their positions, making the story more appealing,

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥, for me likable, still a good addition to the series and I look forward to more from this series,

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬:

I dont equate these stories to real life, Its about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read, I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read, I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
So this was a hit/miss for me, I really didn't like Emma, In her chapters, she acted like a toddler that wasn't getting her way, It wasn't until maybe halfway through she started to get better for me,

Shay is broken, He's trying to find the people that were responsible for killing his brother, I never really looked at him as that awful,

These books are really confusing at times with King of the North/South, There are so many changes that it's starting to get hard to keep track of, .
