What worked for me:
I thoroughly enjoyed the backstory with Adam and Emma's brother, as well as the glimpse into her childhood when she demanded that Adam marry her when he was older.
I could easily picture this incredibly stubborn and demanding woman as an equally stubborn and demanding child approaching Adam at a ball and informing him that he would wait for her to come of age so that they could marry lol
I do love me a man with a limp :P It seems to add an air of vulnerability to an otherwise strong and confidant man that I find a bit refreshing.
The chemistry between Emma and Adam was blazing hot!
What didn't work for me:
As with many if not most short stories, I admit I had a bit of a problem with the pacing.
Granted, Emma had been "in love" with Adam since she was a young girl, but she seemed to put aside her feelings of hatred and betrayal to fall in love with him mighty quickly for my tastes.
Overall, a tasty little read that, if you can get past the pacing issues, is a nice way to pass an afternoon.

This is a Regency romance in its finest form.
There's something simple and pure about a Regency Romance, The hero and heroine can interact without the modern distractions of daily life, When done properly, its a story beautiful in its simplicity, I'm sure that people in that real era had real, difficult problems that weren't so easily solved, but in the fantasy world of books, things are easily solved.
At first glance, Adam is colored through Emma's anger at the loss of her brother.
As she learns more about his actions in the war, and witnesses his interactions with her, her feelings towards him begin to evolve.
Although this is set in a simpler time, we are also without modern advances in medicine.
Adam was injured in the war, and is convinced that no one would want him, with his war injury.
This book was solidly written and executed, Things happened for logical reasons, People changed their opinions after suitable revelations, You don't really need a reason, just go get the book, You won't be disappointed.
Tea Cups!
This was one of those slow, sweet books that winds around you and lets you flow into the lives of the characters.
Relatively short, the book draws you in and lets you feel how two people on the edge of very different precipices find a way to come together.
Emma's sadness over losing her brother is translated into anger toward Adam, her brother's commander and longtime friend of the family.
Her father has abandoned her in his grief and she's on the edge of losing everything she holds dear.
Adam feels guilt over not being able to save her brother yet at the same time he's drawn to Emma and the memories he has of her childish declaration of love.
Short on action, this book is more about emotion and internal dialog, Sweet, sad and ultimately hopeful, it was a quick read that hit the spot for a historical romance.

Kincaid is an exciting historical romance set in Regency England, It is a quick read full of guilt, romance, love, sweet sensuality and family, Emma finds herself without friends, family, her twin brother killed during the war,her father has disappeared leaving her with mounting debts and only one way out and keep her home,to sell herself.
But Emma can't bring herself to do that, Viscount Riverton,Adam, has returned from the war with guilt,Emma's twin brother was killed while in his command, and scars not only of the mind but also physical ones.
His face was tragically burned leaving the once handsome, sexy Adam disfigured, But Adam and Emma who both once had an attraction to each other twelve years earlier, find that attraction is still there and growing.
Emma as a child had once asked the other Adam "to wait for her to grow up" she intended to marry him.
Soon Adam and Emma learn that not even twelve years could stop their desires or their attraction.
Adam determined to save Emma at any cost and Emma determined to remain independent will learn that they need each other in order to survive.
This is a great read, This book was received for the purpose of review from Net Galley and the publisher and details can be found at Carina Press and My Book Addiction s Healing Hearts is a sweet romance with tons of sexual tension.
I enjoyed reading this novella, Youll find the hero very damaged from a war and the heroine very mad at him, but it doesnt take long for her to warm up.
This is not a fast paced action read, it heartfelt story between two people that already loved each other.
I loved the authors writing style and I will be reading more of her books in the future.
I recommend this to anyone that would like a hot sweet novella romance, Too short! A straightforward romance leading quickly to the point because it's short and happens in a few hours time.
That explains why the characters are not complex but it's not unpleasant and you don't have time to get bored.
I have been enjoying the ebooks I have been reviewing, more than I thought I would, this story is no exception.
They say there is a fine line between love and hate, never so much so than in this story.
Emma Whiteside's feelings are are storm tossed as the gale that blows all around her, as she watches Viscount Riverton slowly make his way toward her, his gait impeded from a war injury.
A war that claimed Emma's beloved twin brother Michael, a death Emma lays squarely on the viscount's broad shoulders.
Adam Caldwell, despite his injuries, is still a fine figure of a man, a man Emma has been in love with since she was a child, and asked Adam to wait for her, until she grew up.
Adam considers himself a broken, damaged man, but a man none the less, and he is affected by Emma.
As they stand arguing in the wind, Adam is overcome with pain from his injury, but also lust for the lush, defiant young woman in front of him.
Emma is not exactly immune to Adam, especially when he purrs in a husky voice "There are many ways for a woman to ease a man's pain.
"
After a heated, passionate kiss, Adam realizes he wants more than a sexual romp, He wanted to find himself again, and soften Emma's heart,
The story stays tight and intimate on the couple, no one intrudes except some foul cretin looking to use Emma as his mistress to pay her drunken father's debts.
Adam makes short order of him, and in the interim, proposes marriage,
Considering this story takes place in such a short period of time, the warring emotions certainly are a little jarring, Emma soon realizes that Adam has gone through his own hell in the war, a man scarred inside and out.
A satisfying read, with a few little twists, and a very good heat level to the love scenes.
Ultimately, this is a story of love, long earned, lost, and returned, And the power of forgiveness when two hearts beat as one, Nice short historical love story, :/rounded down tobecause I was disappointed to see a good premise "wasted" like this
This book has most of the key ingredients to a good romance: an emotionally and physically damaged hero who can't forget the horrors of war a tortured heroine who blames the hero for her brother's death on the battlefield and is in dire straits due to her father's gambling debts angsty conflicts heightened by the hero's sense of guilt and inadequacy steamy love scenes.
Unfortunately, all that is crammed into the word limit of a short story and the overall result is a very rushed romance that failed to grab me.
I wish this had been a fulllength book, because I liked Ms, Kincaid's writing and I think I would have enjoyed it better if I didn't feel like I had to run to keep up with Adam and Emma's more than fast "courtship".
As it was, it was hard to connect with their emotions because whenever I started to feel an empathy for them, they changed and I was bereft.
Adam and Emma spent a lot of time thinking to themselves and not so much talking to each other.
Their inner dialogues gave me a good insight into their feelings so I could sort of see why one would fall in love with the other, but I couldn't understand how that happened considering their lack of verbal interaction and their inability to read minds.
At the end of the day, and I mean that literally because the whole story happens in the span of a few hours, it was hard to buy their HEA.
All in all, I can't say I liked this book, I didn't hate it either, and that's the best thing I can say about it,
Note: I received this eARC from Carina Press via sitelinkNetGalley, That had no influence on my review/rating,
