on A Road Back from Schizophrenia: A Memoir

read this book several years ago, and just ordered it to read it again, The book is so much needed on the market, People dealing with mental illness need to know, that recovery is possible!!! There are other accounts of healed schizophrenia, which I came in contact with, But this one is an great read and a compelling story, Very educational. Must read for all touched this or other way by mental illness, Excellent! The story of Arnhild Lauveng can be used by all persons suffering psychosis, schizophrenia, etc, for healing and for coming back to a normal and psych drugs free life.
It can also be used by carers and helpers who have the generosity useful to see sufferers as persons and to support and encourage them on their healing journey.
It inspired me a lot to help my own son on his road back, Excellent memoir! Thank you Arnhild! Arnhild Lauvengs memoir entitled A Road Back From Schizophrenia is a work of considerable care and thought, The book allows the reader to discover and learn from Lauvengsyears of experience with the illness, This is a book that is written with real insight and has been translated from Norwegian into English, There is the occasional grammar mistake, but these are quite forgivable when considering how essentially helpful the overall writing is towards anyone suffering from the disease or those who are learning about it.
Lauveng writes with assuredness and immense experience with Schizophrenia, The book goes into detail as to how the initial stages begin to occur and then proceeds to the overall experience of being in Hospital which is explained in great detail throughout.
I found this book to be immensely helpful and I would recommend it to anyone suffering with Schizophrenia who can manage to read, Its simply told and does not become fairly complex, like a lot of books on the subject can be, The only drawback I found was there was no explanation as to how she actually managed to recover, which was a surprise but maybe that would have been too complicated or private to explain.
Otherwise an extremely helpful book with a lot of good and useful advice throughout, Heavily recommended. This is very good as a description of the experience, It is first hand, not from an external observer, But also further, the author is a professional and draws useful conclusions, Some reviews have disparaged grammar and style, This memoir is translated from Norwegian, so dont fault the author, I purchased it for the information not the prose and I am not disappointed, Arnhild Lauveng has produced a bible in my opinion for everyone who has a person in their life with a schizophrenia diagnosis, Ms. Lauveng has bravely given her personal experience and perspective of the inner world that separated her from reality and placed her in a mental institution, I was absorbed and

fascinated, I didnt put it down until I finished, I highlighted text and dog eared pages, If you are a family member specifically a parent her story will give you heart and guidance, No, she doesnt give the reader specifics on what to do, I wouldnt expect it every individual and life experience is unique, Just knowing what our loved one is going through can help parents understand, embrace, and find the right avenues to support not hinder or setback your son or daughters full recovery.
The insights works for me, My adult son has gone through hospitalizations, group homes, revolving caseworkersNow he is advancing steadily to who he really is before his initial breakdown, Just reading this last paragraph, How can anyone recover with disappointment after disappointment Parents can be the touchstone to sanity if we can only embrace our childs experience with love and hope, not fear and angst.
