My only quibble, but not Quillen's fault because it is not his experience and not his focus, is that Get a Job focuses on mid level and above career transitions there are no comments on the barriers that many of my clients face challenges that come with job searching while experiencing homelessness, returning to work after long absences, or criminal background issues.
That aside, I recommend Get a Job because Quillen's advice is spot on, advice I coach my clients to consider, And you can't quibble withinvitations to interview, Very informative! This is a fabulous book, I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for employment, I found it to be an invaluable resource, This book is great. Dan is writing from a position that is unique from most others I have read on the subject, He knows what its like to be looking for a job in a tight market, sees it from a HR perspective and knows the difficulties of getting a job when your age might count against you.
Considering how many books there are on job searches, I found that I learned a lot from every chapter I read, Dan Quillen knows what he is talking about in this book, I took his advice and had a job withinweeks of being laid off, Buy it today and it will set you on a direct course to success! Mr, Quillen's book is an easy read with a great deal of helpful information, Having been a hiring manager and HR director, as well as having been laid off himself during the recent recession, Mr, Quillen has a particular expertise that others may not, This book is also written with a focus on how techniques in job searching have changed in recent years, due to technology and the economy.
I highly recommend this book to those that are either newly unemployed or wishing to make a change, I was out of work for almostyears, and was just not getting many responses from the resumes I was sending out, I picked up a copy of Dan's book and began following his counsel in a number of areas, especially related to resumes and interviewing, Withinweeks, I hadinterviews and received two job offers, I am now happily employed with a great job and feel like following Dan's counsel is the primary reason I was able to get these job offers and land my job.
