Win Heartland Developed By Jenny Pattrick File Ebook
blogspot. co. n Heart warming and compulsive reading, this is an entertaining, lively and moving novel from one of New Zealand's favourite authors.
Small town New Zealand at it's most charming! Great characters and a sweet story, I love this book, a really nice read, Solid four. Loved the strong Kiwi essence of the characters and setting, Could relate to the anxieties the locals felt as the 'townies' descended on Manawa in ski season, this was a familiar scenario and well portrayed.
Light, whimsical but charming. This was an enjoyable read, The characters came alive, and it was easy to imagine this small NZ town, The plot is well thought out and requires the reader to ask some hard questions regarding how they wold react.
I don't usually take the time to do a review of a book but this one needs comment, I think that perhaps this book with not have the impact for people who have not been to New Zealand and spent enough time as something other than a tourist, to understand how 'on the mark' Jenny Pattrick was with her characterizations.
This book made me laugh out loud so many time and I have recommended it to several people already.
But it is truly a kiwi book, I wish Jenny Pattrick did more of this kind of humor, She mainly write historical fiction and you learn a lot about many parts of the history of this country in them, but her humor is so very well done.
Lighthearted and amusing. I loved all the kiwiisms, here's a link to my published review:
sitelink nzbooklovers. co. nz/general I thoroughly enjoyed this book, Each character was well rounded and added to the story, They were very realistic as they all had their faults so were easy to identify with, Set in a very small fictional town at the base of Mount Ruapehu in New Zealand the typical goings on of the locals provide the basis of lives that intertwine together to give a few surprises as well as an enjoyable read.
What a lovely story, an enjoyable read, Light hearted, even with the serious undertone, I thoroughly enjoyed this warm hearted story with its wonderful characters which leapt to life straight from the page.
Loved this great story set in small town NZ, vivid description of the scenery and the characters, . . I'm just a bit upset that I fall into the 'townie' camp, rushing in and out for weekends of skiing! This is a real cracker of a yarn told in true kiwi style.
Set in the fictional town of Manawa, under the shadow of Mount Ruapehu, it deals with a varying assortment of town folk as only a small town can.
Donny Mac is a simpleton with a kind heart, the story starts with his release frommonths in prison.
He arrives home to the news that he is the father of the drunken and pregnant Nightshade's unborn child.
Donnys friends keep an eye out for him and help where they can when the baby arrives, but it is the death of Nightshade and her disappearance, that really see them rally around, especially when it looks like the secret might be discovered.
A wonderful collection of eccentric characters that are crying out to be seen on the big screen.
Easy, quick read. A cast of entertaining characters, Loved the storyline in this book, Characters were amazing. Lovely to see a little community working and helping each other, Heartland is the story of a sleepy little town,
A town of old stalwarts set in their ways of busybodies, bullies, nohopers and townies,
A town full of secrets and lies,
Heartland is the story of a lost and broken teenager, saving a slow and misunderstood excon from himself, and in doing so they reunite a forgotten family, forge lifelong friendships, and find the strength to face their own demons and truly be themselves.
Author Jenny Pattrick has created a completely believable small town in New Zealand and filled it with lovingly quirky and original characters.
I was quickly engrossed by this motley crue of townsfolk, their individual stories were carefully and beautifully woven together in a thoroughly engrossing tale that captivated me from the start.
An easy to read, eloquently written story, Heartland turned out to be a real gem of a read.
Full to brimming characters that reminded me of a number of my old rural neighbors mixed in with the almost Chinesewhisperlike tales that only a small town can conjure up made for an entertaining read and a small trip down memory lane for me.
I would have no hesitation recommending this book to many of my friends as I feel it crosses several genres and does so well enough to keep mystery, romance, literature in fact, all book fans happy!
A slow paced sleepy town, but by no means a sleepy storystars.
Wonderful NZ book, I loved it and couldn't put it down, Ugh! So many things wrong here,
Why do so many New Zealand books and films have eccentric characters when the country doesn't
Do New Zealanders think it makes a book or film more interesting
Well, it doesn't.
It makes it annoying and juvenile, dimensional quirky characters just do not work anywhere outside of fantasy comics,
My take is that it is deflection from a lack of writing skills which in turn leads to a lack of convincing characterisation and/or a good story.
Inserting weird characters may help you to try and turn a mediocre story into a good one but it has the opposite effect.
In fact, if you took all the weird shit out of the story and developed the underlying story you could have come up with a real winner, something that really does represent NZ in fiction, something that this puerile fantasy does not.
If you want to do eccentric see what better writers do, Read the Cormorant Strike books by the Potter woman, Her main character is eccentric but she has done enough backstory to make it passably convincing, Having a "real kiwi bloke" trying to win the Crochet Cup from the town women introduced just a few sentences doesnt give the reader a chance to engage and works against suspension of disbelief.
I have lived in small isolated settlements in NZ and just isn't like that,
This book is just rubbish and makes NZ look dumb, Sorry to be so harsh, I tried to like it but you made it as difficult as it gets.
The underlying story had so much potential, there was so much scope in the relationship of the Maori guy to the old women, there is a whole seam of race and history just begging for some depth right there.
I could go on but I think I've made my point, Jenny Pattrick is an acclaimed historical novelist, whose The Denniston Rose, and its sequel Heart of Coal, are among New Zealands bestselling novels.
