of the best in the series, Good character development and action, This was a good Michael Bennett book, but it was just too short, It should have been called a novella, actually, The chapters were short and the action was fastpaced, I was just disappointed in how short it was and in the conclusion that left some things unresolved, I recommend the book to diehard fans of James Patterson, but it wasnt the best that I have read,

NYPD detective Michael Bennett and his homicide partner rookie Antrole Martens respond to an anonymous tip in a apartment building that turns out to be a set up.
A gunfight ensues and Michael's partner is killed, As his son in prison is knifed at the same time, Michael realizes someone has put out a contract on him, The lady who has been paid is lethal and will not stop until the job is done,
My takeaway from this book is not Michael's story, but rather the contract killer, Alexandra "Alex" Martinez, I was impressed with her sense of honor, such as it was, plus her preparation prior to making a move on killing, Her attention to detail was striking and carried her through several tough situations, I also liked the new priest, Father Alonzo, Meanwhile, Michael's family is growing up and his relationship with Mary Catherine is progressing too, If you like the Michael Bennett family, you will like this newest story,
After the last book I was starting to worry this series was going downhill like some of James Pattersons series do,
This book did not disappoint though, It was your usual over the top story about one of my favorite detectives but it was a fantastic story,
Michael Bennett has a hit out on him, The cartel doesnt like him digging into their business, But Michael Bennett is not an easy man to kill and he will do anything to make sure he stays with his family,
Action packed, fast paced, and the usual mix of work and family time for Michael Bennett, We got a new character who I thought might be a bad guy at first but ended up being a bad ass! This was one of my favorites in the series I think.
I read some of the reviews that were negative and I have to put this out there, Most series with a lead are basically about the same thing, Bennett is a cop he does have ten kids, it's going to be about him and what's going on, I mean come on if you read about Stone or Davenport they all are about them the gist of the hunt or story just changes.
I enjoyed the book , it was fun and I like that his kids are coming in to their own and having more in depth personalities, and they do get into trouble and make bad life choices, If your sick of Patterson don't read the book.
From the beginning the reader knew who the assassin was Detective Michael Bennett didnt have that advantage, Fast paced, violent, with Bennett being his usual stubborn but determined self, the two sides to Bennett loving father to his ten adopted children plus committed cop were there, so everything I love in a Michael Bennett thriller.
But this one didnt seem to have the punch that the previous in the series have had,
Ambush is theth in the series by James Patterson, and although it wasnt quite up to the usual standard in my opinion I am looking forward to.
Recommended.
An anonymous tip about a crime in Upper Manhattan proves to be a setup, taking an officer downand it's not Michael Bennett,
The life of New York's top cop is not the only one at risk, One of Bennett's children sustains a mysterious injury, And a series of murders follows, each with a distinct signature, alerting Bennet to the presence of a professional killer,
Investigators chase leads that turn out to be phantoms, and this master killer entices one officer into compromising Bennett, He then goes a step further, luring another member of Bennett's family into even graver danger, Michael Bennett can't untangle what's driving the assassinbut he can tell it's personal, And he needs to determine exactly how he figures in the killer's logic, before there is one fewer Bennett in the world, Is it me or are other fans of James Patterson's books finding the latest ones to be good but not great I enjoy the Detective Michael Bennett series and was excited to get a copy of Ambush.
I enjoyed reading it but found the story winding down before page, I knew the book containedoages so I thought something must happen at the end of the book, some crazy twist or something to set up the next book, but no.
The book ends before you've turned the last page, What takes up the remainder of the pages is the book shot Manhunt, Well, I had already read that so it was of no need to me! I felt a little jipped, but enjoyed the book nevertheless, I am just left feeling vaguely disappointed, While this wasnt such a bad Michael Bennett book it royally pissed me off that it abruptly ended and I still had a thick portion left of pages.
JP added a bookshot at the end of this book so it seemed way thicker than what it was, And Ive already read said bookshot so I feel like I just got ripped off, I enjoyed this story and always amazed at the closeness of such a big family! Sadly a threestar read because I really enjoy the Micheal Bennett series, Replacement coauthor OBorn collaborates with Patterson in a soso read which really doesnt progress much further than where the last one finished off, Yes, there are murders, a hitwoman, drug dealers, Seamus and MaryCatherine,
The pace is fairly good, the plot is initially intriguing but becomes increasingly farfetched and the characters just dont develop or progress,
That said Ill read the next one, . . Im a sucker!
I was planning to read this book as something to pass my time, but it turned out to be a very nice book indeed.
It's a short read so more details would have made it more interesting, Also, there was no mind blowing plot twist or anything of the sort, Overall, it's very nice and I'm looking forward to reading the next book of the series,./
Ugh Im worried about this series, I loved following Michael Bennett from the beginning and have become invested in his familys lives but this one just was not as good as the other books in the series.
It was predictable and even boring at times, where is the excitement Ive come to expect from this series! The only saving grace for me was that I listened to this and Danny Mastrogiorgio is an amazing narrator! Hoping the next installment is better or Im abandoning.
Quick read but I felt like something was missing, . . Ambush
This has become my favorite series by James Patterson, I like Michael Bennett more than Alex Cross these days, This is always a fast read and a good storyline, .
