and Maya both work together and they slept together one night which ended their working relationship, Several years go by and Ayden is in a bind and needs Maya to help him out, With the way this book was setup I was expecting an angst filled story, Sadly, I didnt get that with this book, I liked Maya but she was such a pushover, She let everyone walk over her from Adyen to her own family members, Im also getting tired of reading books that use sex to fix all the couples problems, For example,
Female Lead: “I want marriage, babies, the white picket fence, I deserve nothing but the best, ”
Male Lead: “Youre right but I cant give it to you and you are incredible and deserve nothing but the best but it wont be from me
But we can still have sex.
Ugh.
This really NEEDS stop, He doesnt respect you enough for a real relationship but youre good enough for casual sex! Im also tired of the male leads treating the women badly and they dont even have to work hard for trust to be earned back.
They just show up a few weeks later with some lame ass apology and all is forgiven, We need to do better! Women know your worth!
This was my first time reading this author and honestly Im not sure if I will be continuing with this series.
I didnt connect to the couple or feel their chemistry while reading this book,
NetGalley stars, Loved this. Easily couldve been a five star read for me but it was a little too repetitive, especially in Aydens point of view.
Other than that this had a lot of things that I absolutely love, A second chance romance, work place romance, emotionally stunted hero, a heroine who really comes into her own, angst, family drama, and a steamy romance.
It was all well done, The writing was good, it was paced well and it was so entertaining from beginning to end,
I liked and empathized with both characters, Ayden and his childhood trauma and Maya and everything she had been through with her sister and her mother, They are such damaged people but theyre more than that, I think between the two Maya had the better development but Ayden goes through some solid development as well especially at the end.
Their chemistry was amazing and their romance is an emotional rollercoaster but so satisfying in the end,
I cannot wait to continue on with the series as it follows Aydens younger siblings and I did like them here.
Im sure Ill enjoy them just as much as I did this one,
After all these
years, he finally made a decision, . .
Maya was once Ayden Executive Assistant, but after one night together, he made a decision that lost Maya.
Years later, Ayden needs Maya again and stops at nothing to get her back, Realizing how he feels about Maya, Ayden used that to get her to take of him when he needed, During that time, their relationship went to the next level and when they came back to work, Ayden again, made a bad decision.
Ayden drove me crazy, he knew he wanted Maya and wouldn't get over his past hurts to be with her.
Maya, had to work out her own issues and she did, but it was just the beginning and when Ayden couldn't make up his mind, she did it for him.
I rooted for Maya to get everything she ever wanted because she deserved it, so when Ayden finally came to his senses, I was happy.
This was a great read and I loved the chemistry between Ayden and Maya!!! Excellent read!! Great Start To This Series
Ms.
St. John never disappoints! This was an excellent read, After heartbreaks, betrayal and a broken spirit, Maya stood up for what she not only wanted, but deserved! Ayden was finally able to let go of his issues, see what was in front of him, acknowledge it and find some happiness! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Fallons story! A male CEO has indispensable female assistants who leave one after the other, and he decides to ask a lady he crossed the line with previously to come back and work for him.
She needs a good salary quickly as her mother is ill so she accepts, However you saw this coming the man can't keep his hands off her, I would have liked him better if he had kept his promise to be on a strictly work basis, and I did think the lady should have reminded him of this, because after all she does have the upper hand if he needs her that badly.
The lady has far more personal and social issues to contend with than the gentleman, which is often the case because men tend to exclude all but work and one or two close relationships from their lives.
This is an adult romance, I did enjoy the story, and would read more from this author, but please don't try to model your professional life on this couple.
I downloaded an eARC from Net Galley and Fresh Fiction, This is an unbiased review, Nice!
Thank you! This is my first book by this author, I have read a Harlequin in decades, lol, Yep, this is a steamy will he, won't he CEO vs the Office Assistant, Ayden needed a definite smack with the way he couldn't make up his mind about Maya, He was not always kind and kept giving her mixed messages, Maya needed a bit more of a backbone with the way she let him play her, This story reminded me of how I use to devour these stories back in the day, I couldnt finish this book, I got halfway through and it still wasnt offering anything to keep me engaged,
Maya was waaay to much of a pushover for this to be any good, I felt the story hinges on her whet it would be worth the while, and she didnt deliver,
She did too much thinking about what she wouldnt do just to do it two seconds later, It was too little angst for me and the passion was more of wisps of air, Great read
I immensely enjoy the books written by this author and this one is no exception.
Maya and Ayden have a tense relationship that crossed boundaries, While she is ready for marriage, babies and picket fences he is so caught up in his past that he is incapable of love or commitment.
A reunion with her billionaire boss is irresistible in this steamy office romance from Yahrah St, John.
Mixing business and pleasure burned her once, Now the man who broke her heart wants her back
Maya Richardson cant believe shes even entertaining rich businessman Ayden Stewarts offer to return as his assistant, no matter how generous the compensation.
Hed broken his “no office affair” policy once and lost his best assistant, But now he claims to need Maya Richardson backat any price, Caving in to his demands, she takes the job,
Maya tells herself the years apart have cooled their chemistry, So why are they breaking rule number one againand again Ayden still makes her want what she can never havereal love.
Will it be different this time The future of her heart is on the line, Myah worked for Ayden years ago, but quit after they hooked up and Ayden shut her out, Now Ayden is back asking Myah to come back and work for him, He offers her a huge bonus that she cannot refuse, but makes him promise they wont repeat previous mistakes,
I will be the first to admit that both Ayden and Myah both have their issues, Myah doesnt stand up for herself as much as I would like and Ayden is a little too alphahole for my personal taste.
I mean at one point he says he needs a “nursemaid” and obviously Myah is the top candidate, He then proceeds to tell her to “run along” to get her stuff, Right then I would have said “excuse me”, regardless of past history and present circumstances! Eventually, Myah realizes she is much more deserving and Ayden has to step up! My favorite part of the book has to be their whole Jamaica trip.
Their chemistry is fire! I REALLY liked this book and I cant wait to read the rest in the series! Love In The Workplace
It's really sad that Henry Stewart abandoned Ayden but chose to be a father to Fallon and Dane and I'm glad that Ayden got successful on his own without his father's help.
I think Ayden was waiting for an excuse to seek out Maya because he was in love with her because he shared more of himself with her than anyone.
I understand forgiveness but if I was Maya, I would have still Raven and Thomas at a distance, Raven was trifling for stealing Thomas from her own sister and actually married him, Maya and Raven's mom Sophia was wrong for taking sides and treating Maya like an outcast, This was a struggle to finish for me, I'm not at all fond of alphahole main characters and Ayden was that times ten, Also, not every story needs to reconcile the toxic family relationships to have a happy ending, Maya didn't have to be the bigger person she was the victim and her entire family showed no remorse, She had no independent thoughts and didn't stick up for herself the entire book, I'm angry that this was labeled a romance because there was no love, Maya didn't even love herself, That was the saddest part of all, Never did she put herself first, She was really just a device used for everyone else to achieve their desires, Sins of the father
Deep seeded Family issues almost cost Ayden the love of his life.
Yet through introspection and self determination he was able to set aside pride, Maya the assistant comes into her own after personal experience of betrayal, You'll rejoice in the love and the coming together of a Family Maya is absolutely amazing, and Ayden is pretty good, too.
I love their story! I didn't realize this was also a family reconciliation book, which are not really my jam.
The CEO's Pleasure
Ten Year's of being afraid to express his love because he didn't want to be rejected but Myra was having none of that this time she love me with a 'll of you are nothing.
Ok, this DNF is definitely on me,
By which I mean most the other DNFs OBVIOUSLY it's subjective to degrees but the other ones IMO there are major plot/characterization errors or issues, etc.
. .
In this case it's me,
First of all, . . I love the "I must get back what I lost" boss/secretary romances,
But here, the guy was a jackass, I liked that his friend called him on it,
BUT WORSE.
Like ugh.
The heroine's little sister WHO APPARENTLY SHE HALF RAISED HERSELF cheated with the heroine's then boyfriend,
And the sister and ex boyfriend got married and had a kid, Heroine has been estranged from them foryears WITH GOOD REASON, She's back for her niece's christening, . . because she's a good person and the bigger person, Everyone in her family apparently just expected her to get over it, . . BUT THEY NEVER APOLOGIZED.
And then her asshole mom ugh, UGH. Apparently has stagepancreatic cancer she's also been estranged from mom because mom treats her like shit, always has, blames her for everything and favors her sister so.
. .
Like irl I get dealing with family no mater what,
But at least in fiction
Fuck that toxic shit,
And hello yes I get it I've got a lot of issues/especially feel some type of way and I'm like "yes hello I can and do live this, I don't need or want to read about it in my fiction/leisure/pleasure reading.
"
BUT ANYWAY.
Heroine's brother in law WHO WAS HER EX BOYFRIEND WHO CHEATED ON HER and the way she found out was she was going to bring him dinner one night AND CAUGHT HER SISTER IN BED WITH THE GUY.
BiL is all "oh hey your mom has cancer what are you going to do about it" by which he obviously means care for/provide for them/her.
And yeah I read betweenand nope,
Sorry, no.
I'm sure it's a great book but nope, Not for me.
I want to kick the hero in the kneecap, and I want to kick the sister and BiL in the junk.
If anyone wants an example of exactly the book that fits the HQ Desire line, this is a good example.
If you like a hero who doesn't take no for an answer, and knows exactly what he wants the heroine, then you'll love this book.
Personally, I found there were a couple of times when the hero pushed a bit too much for a yes after the heroine had said no, and then she folded and said yes.
It blurs the line of consent for me,
But I do enjoy when a hero who has it all falls completely for his lover and can't live without them.
The ending of this book packs an emotional punch, Proceed With Caution:
This book does contain mentions of cancer, aggressive treatment, and fear of parent death.
The Basics:
In typical Romance fashion, this is narrated in third person POV, alternating between Maya and Ayden.
Ayden is CEO of his own investing firm and he's in need of a new assistant, Or his old assistant, as it were, Maya quit five years ago after the two slept together and Ayden acted like it never happened, Ayden wants her back and promises things will stay strictly professional, Too bad their attraction is stronger than ever,
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed At the CEO's Pleasure, It's a second chance, workplace, billionaire Romance and each element works quite well with each other, Maya and Ayden are also both dealing with their estranged families which is affecting their ability to get their own relationship on track.
My favorite part of At the CEO's Pleasure actually was their inevitable breakup, which is not something I say often.
It felt realistic and not forced, It's a culmination of everything that these two people are going through and I loved how Maya just lets it all out.
She tells Ayden exactly how she's feeling about his inability to commit to her, She knows she deserves more and she won't settle, I nearly cheered! This was the kick in the pants that Ayden needed to set aside his pride and get his familial affairs in order to move on with his life.
At the CEO's Pleasure is a very quick and pleasant read, The characters are likeable and believable, and I was definitely cheering for them to fix past hurts and move on together.
