Grab The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Three Stories Translated By Gary Schmidgall Digital
Picture of Dorian Gray, " Wilde's only fulllength novel, is the enduringly eerie fable of a portrait that ages and decays as its model remains ever young and beautiful.
Dorian Gray, a naive and irresistible young man, is lured by decadent Lord Henry Wotton into a life of depravity, Dorian becomes steeped in sin, but his face remains perfect, unlined while only his portrait, locked away, reveals the blackness of his soul.
My favorite classic novel to date, I've lost track of how many times I've reread this story!
All the! Dude this was highly concerning, and I struggled to read it because nothing happened for the first likequarters, however very interesting and a solid slay I wonder who said the word 'sins' and 'morality' so much to Oscar Wilde for this man to be so hurt by it.
The whole book feels like a response to this entire stigma of such a straight line between what's good and what's supposed to be bad which Oscar Wilde is so obviously sick of, and that's why this book is still an icon.
He's talented, he's got ideas and he ain't wrong about one thing the fact that he's a badass despite his scandalous ideals.
I would like to have a chat with Mr, Wilde and wonder which one of us would be the most offended by the other, I feel like I'd be terribly scared of him and he'd be tremendously bored of me without even saying a word, Let's celebrate a raging gay man who's sick and completely enamored by life and people, sitelinkThe Picture of Dorian Gray:stars

.stars, rounded up to. idk why this is listed separately from the copy i read the first time, maybe its the extra stories in the back, but ill take the chance to give this booka second time.
everyone say thank you oscar wilde Very simple, probably the best book Ive ever read, Oscar Wilde is, of course, a wonderful writer, His writing is cynical, philosophical, and witty, I like that his style is also very clear and easy to grasp, while still maintaining beautiful prose, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a brilliant, thoughtprovoking classic, and his two fairytale short stories Happy Prince and Infanta were very nice and bittersweet.
I wasnt a fan of the last short, Arthur Savile, I think Ill need to give it another try soon, But overall, Wilde is a fascinating writer and Id like to read more of his work!

Lord Arthur Saviles Crime:A handsome naïve young man, Dorian Gray, sits with a painter Henry Basil who adores him to get his portrait done.
He meets Basil's friend there, who guides Dorian through towards the world of sins and pleasures, Dorian makes an uncanny wish that the portrait would take on all his wrinkles as he ages and the effects of his sins.
Once he realizes that his strange wish has come true, he is driven by selfish motives, He commits sins, knowing that there won't be any repercussions on himself, But once it starts haunting him, he finds a way to free himself off it, I reread this one with my AP seniors, who haven't been too enthusiastic about what we'd been reading so far, I chose this one because I thought they would respond to the length, And they did, with the help of guided reading questions, The prose is beautiful. Lord Henry's quips and Dorian's obsession with beauty and sensation at all costs is still quite relevant, perhaps even more so not than when it was first written.
I did find myself uncomfortable at times with Lord Henry's declarations about women and their inferiority, though interestingly, my studentsall girlsdid not.
Overall, this is a classic for a reason The Picture of Dorian Gray still speaks to the shallowness in the world and the infatuation many have for surface glamour and bling.
I recommend turning off the fake "reality" TV and pick up this book instead, See where such narcissistic behavior leads, This is my first time reading this since high school and it's definitely more misogynist and antiSemitic than I recall, . .
But, you know, still funny and insightful, Would watch Dorian Gray's reality television show, He did that
all art is at once surface and symbol, it is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors,
the picture of dorian gray wrecked my brain, thats the only sentence sitting in my draft review for like, a month, i keep thinking how to best describe this book knowing full well its a classic aged more thanyears old and i obviously do not have the capacity to say anything meaningful about it nor anything new because well, its ayear old book.
i believe everything that should must be said about this book has been said already,
despite those things, here we are, why i dont know. maybe because i am a dumbass surviving with two brain cells on daily basis so this is really like some silly notes so that if one day someone asks me have i read this book i can

say yes and if they ask me what do i think about it, well, here it is:
the writing is exquisite.
please note i only know the blurry meaning of the word exquisite and im not sure i have ever used that word to describe any other writing.
but while i am reading the book and being constantly in awe i was like, this is it, this is what exquisite means, at times it is even sharp, while remains haunting in its all grotesquey narratives, i dont know what im saying, the writing justperpetually sending shivers down my spine, it is also, layered i feel like one line can be interpreted in many ways, or have multiple meanings, depends on which context it is used.
which can be confusing, i felt like the ghost of oscar wilde was staring at me in my room with my eyebrows tied to each other, my eyes glued to the same line for likeminutes and he was shaking his head, look at this doofus trying to be relevant.
give up, youll never get it,
and maybe i didnt, doesnt make this story less terrifying, by the way, a handsome young man, upon the devastating realization of how shortlived youth is, wishing his portrait getting older instead of him and somehow his wish came true some witchcraft, i might say.
the portrait hides not only the gradual change of his physical condition, but also reflects his soul, everytime dorian commits some horrendous act, something about his portrait turns horrid and eerie, however, his actual face and body remains the same, carving his youth forever,
there is something so horror in watching how dorian changes throughout the book, i say watching because reading the book did feel like watching a movie, there are two important characters in this book, just as fascinating as dorian, called lord henry and basil, basil is the artist who created dorians portrait, to whom dorian was originally friend with, basil worshiped dorian, to him he was not only his greatest muse, but the representation of art itself and of himself, basil serves as the good influence an honest person with pure thoughts, shy demeanor, closedoff behavior, lord henry, on the contrary, isto oversimplify itthe bad influence, he is so, undeniably charming in his ways, in the way he speaks, in the way he brings himself, everytime he speaks, it feels like there is something so evil and off about it but you just cant help to listen, and even, agrees.
people like that, characters like that, terrifies the hell out of me, because honestly, i cant say to you that i wont listen, reading lord henrys words and thoughts made me wonder that they really should not let a person like that roaming around the city unsupervised.
but then again, lord henry is somewhat the representation of england high society, or, high society in general, his views on beauty and art, the way he said, i only want to look at life, only look. not improve, not even participate, how easy everything seemed for him, contrary to, say, basil, how he can stand unaffected, unbothered, in his bubble while going around saying whatever he thinks assured that everything about it is right, or even if it is wrong, he just couldnt care less about it.
what is right and wrong anyway dorian easily leaned, adapted, and developed similar views and upbringing because he too, came from the same class.
everything lord henry said makes more sense to him than basils,
there is also a lot, well not a lot actually, more than that, a huge part of the book centralizes on philosophy of pleasure, including but not limited to beauty and art, there is this sentiment on how life tragedy itself is an art, some magnum opus, that the more devastating it is, the better.
it is a dark, twisted concept, but bewitching nonetheless in the way it is written in the book,
oh, and that ending made my jaw drop, the irony of it all, truly,
bottom line, a scary book with no ghost that can make you feel so evil just by reading it,
